The Prophets were not concerned with foretelling the future.

2.

Rather, their purpose was to call the People of Israel to return to their past faithfulness to God or else face serious consequences.

3.

And when the People of Israel found themselves in Exile, the Prophets held out hope for the future.

4.

For Christians, the highlight of the Prophets section is the promise of a Savior.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Major Prophets o Isaiah – “The virgin shall be with child and will give birth to a son and will call him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” (Is 7)

o Jeremiah – “Ah, Lord, I do not know how to speak. I am too young!” (Jer 1) o Ezekiel – “I will sprinkle clean water on you and you will be clean.” (Ez 36) o Daniel – in the Lion’s Den (Dn 6)

Minor Prophets o Hosea – “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.” (Hos 11)
