Demand for water used for municipal purposes is likely to grow by 2.8% annually
Demand for housing likely to increase by 150.64% compared to year 2000.
Electricity use is increasing at about 7.5% annually and turned to 120 GWe by 2032, increased by 300% compared to capacity (40 Gwe) at 2010.
Gasoline Demand is increasing at about 7% annually. IFC estimates (2008) there will be consumer demand for an
additional 4.5 million housing units in KSA by 2025. Saudi Arabia is among the countries who has been
blessed with abundant Oil, Gas, Solar Radiation and a Reasonable Wind resource, where solar radiation, wind and geothermal are almost untapped.
Saudi Arabia, with vast open flat land and low population density, offers excellent opportunities for harnessing the power of wind and joins the group of wind power producing countries.

POWER SECTOR MARKET & OPPERTUNITIES With a population of approx 29.61 million in 2015, which is
growing at the rate of 1.54% per year, demand for electricity is increasing by approx 7-8% per annum.
Saudi Arabia has one of the largest per capita electricity consumption rate in the middle east, even in the world.
Saudi Arabia requires $624 billion investment over the next 15 years to cope with the increasing demand, largely due to the booming population. (as per IMF Data)
$46.9 billion of this investment is needed for power generation only.
$4.5 - $6 billion investment is needed annually in Saudi Arabia over the next fifteen years to cope with demand.
Due to minimization of subsidy on electricity rate from the government, many private parties are willing to go for their own captive Power Units creating huge opportunity for small Power Plant Development Companies.

GLIMPSES OF SAUDI POWER MARKET & OPPERTUNITY
Saudi Arabia needs to expand its power & network capacity to support the country’s industrialization plan as power demand grows by 7 to 8% or more each year
As per the estimate of Ministry of Electricity & Water plus Saudi Arabia's industry estimates that the country will require up to 20gw of additional power generating capacity by 2020 & 120 GWe by 2032 – whereas the present amount as today's 51.15 GWe.
Rate of transmission & distribution network is growing average by 6.5 to 7% annually or more.
To offer trouble free services to power customer, maintenance of generation, transmission & distribution network is getting increased by 6 to 7%
The SEC is currently inviting private investor participation in planned power generation projects worth $53.3 billion. Investors are being offered a seven-year pay-back period under these projects.
Saudi Arabia needs 2000 MW of electricity annually to meet its local demand which requires investments of SR10bn.

Saudi Aramco is planning to set up six power generation facilities at an estimated total cost of $1bn to meet its growing electricity needs which includes the up gradation of their 3 existing Power Plant at Tihama & 1500 MW in Fadihli Oil Field.
As part of the government’s programme to move to an open electricity market, SEC will be split into four generation companies, which will eventually be sold off to the private sector. For this reason, IPPs will be developed on a build-own-operate basis.
RENEWABLE ENERGY KA-Care recently announced that it is targeting 54.1 GW of
renewable energy by 2030, around 41 GW of which will be solar powered. The plans will start with a procurement programme of about 1,100MW of photovoltaic solar, 900MW of concentrated solar power, 650MW of wind power and 200MW from other sources with totaling 2850 MW tendered in 2013.
An study of “Sunrise in Desert” in Jan 2012, illustrates that with oil prices above $80 per barrel or liquefied natural gas (LNG) prices above $13 /MMBtu, solar becomes commercially viable without the need for subsidies.

NUCLEAR ENERGY In August 2009 the Saudi government announced that it was
considering a nuclear power program on its own. Saudi Arabia plans to construct 16 nuclear power reactors over
the next 20 years at a cost of more than $80 billion, with the first reactor on line in 2022.
Three sites were short-listed as of September 2013: Jubail on the Gulf; and Tabuk and Jizan on the Red Sea for first 3 Nuclear Power Project.
In September 2013 both GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy and Toshiba/ Westinghouse signed contracts with Exelon Nuclear Partners (ENP), a division of Exelon Generation, to pursue reactor construction deals with KA-CARE.
In January 2015 the government said that its target for 17 GWe of nuclear capacity would be more like 2040.

NUCLEAR ENERGY In March 2015 the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute
(KAERI) signed an agreement with KA-CARE to assess the potential for building at least two South Korean SMART reactors in the country, and possibly more.
In September 2015 further contracts were signed between KA CARE & KAERI, which aim at building a partnership to establish knowledge infrastructure in SMART technology fields, such as designing and building the reactors and maintaining their mechanical and safety features.
SMART is designed for electricity generation (up to 100 MWe) as well as thermal applications, such as seawater desalination, with a 60-year design life and three-year refuelling cycle.
The cost of building the first SMART unit in Saudi Arabia is estimated at $1 billion.
In January 2015 the government said that its target for 17 GWe of nuclear capacity would be more like 2040.

MIDDLE EAST POWER MARKET OVERVIEW A Demand & Plan to build a sustainable supply of electricity for
Europe (EU), the Middle East (ME) and North Africa (NA) up to the year 2050.
A close cooperation between EU and MENA for market introduction of renewable energy and interconnection of electricity grids by HVDC transmission are keys for economic and physical survival of the whole region.
Demand for electric power & its transmission from one place to other in the MENA region is accelerating rapidly and growing at the rate of 7-8% per annum, driven by population growth and urbanization, and by economic development and industrialization.
Due to the abundance and seasonal uniformity of solar energy from deserts EUMENA Plan for transferring Clean Energy from MENA Area to EU area creating huge development of HVDC & AC Transmission Grid of more than 15,000 KM of OHTL.
Power demand in the MENA region is set to continue growing by 7% annually in the coming decade, according to a consultancy, Booz & Company
