Enrichment Programming

Homelessness in Greensboro-Guilford County has one of the largest homeless populations in North Carolina. (Partners Ending Homelessness 2011)

-Living in a state of homelessness greatly increases personality disorders, depression, substance abuse as well as

general health disparities in women. (Lindsey 1998)

-Children who experience homelessness are more prone to anxiety, serious behavioral problems, poor academic

performance, and various developmental issues as well as significant depression. (Lindsey 1998)

-Currently, 47% of homeless individuals in Guilford County are homeless as a result of the lack of full time

employment. (Learn about homelessness in Greensboro 2013)

What the Shelter Means to our Residents

Shelter NowWe are a shelter in Guilford County that accommodates all types of families, but only can have capacity of up to

30 person from 30 days up to 90 days.

On average 20 families are on the YWCA waitlist for shelter services and these waitlists depend on the expedience

of current families leaving the shelter.

Even with access to a shelter, there is still the readjustment to life outside the shelter.

We need to equip our shelter residents with opportunities to not repeat the cycle of homelessness, while

attaining a greater well-being for their children.

Enrichment Programming

BudgetSample 40,000 budget - After care is going to be

the highest cost because of event budgeting and caseworker expenses

- Indirect costs will compensate for growth and unexpected costs of the program

Impact Homelessness is growing in Greensboro and that will continue if organizations do not step up to

find solutions to this problem.

The YWCA’s shelter accommodates all families and provides for them, however, the families needs

catered programming in order to improve their lives and create independence.

Resume building, financial literacy, after care management can truly make a difference for the

residents to provide for their families. Our residents are assets to the community so supporting

them would build a better future.
