In the 1880’s, Michael K. Jones founded M.K. Jones Furniture
in Savannah, GA and opened 13 locations, including one store
located off East Main Street with brothers W. Greider Jones and
Robert L. Jones.
1880
Michael K. Jones left the furniture chain to 13 brothers and sisters; Robert L. Jones split off from his siblings and started his own company, Standard Furniture Co.
1910
Robert L. Jones developed the Mediterranean Revival structure on Hogan Street for Standard
Furniture Co.
1926
M.K. Jones Furniture and Standard Furniture Co. merged as Jones Brother’s Furniture and operated out of the same Hogan Street
building.
1954
After decades of success in downtown, the owners relocated the business to the suburbs and
later closed its doors.
1987
Ace Jax proposes to reposition the Jones Brother’s Furniture and adjacent Western Union buildings to a mixed-use redevelopment.
