1. SlflMARY
l Reconnaissance prospecting was carried out on the Setting Net property of Geotest Corporation, Ottawa, Ontario. The purpose of this work was to
l evaluate the property to determine its potential for gold and base metals on behalf of Noramoo Explorations Inc., Vancouver, British Columbia.
l Sampling and localized mapping of mineralized areas was done in the southeast part of the property where it is underlain by granitoid intrusive rocks. Metasedimentary rocks were sampled in the central and northern parts of the property and metavolcanic rocks were sampled near the outlet of Setting Net Creek.
Granitoid rocks in the southeast part of the property host quartz veins and sericitized shears with associated sulphides. Sampling of these features by Geotest returned anomalous gold values and Noramoo sampling returned values in the 1,000's of ppb gold. Metasedimentary rocks are argillaceous siltstones, fine-grained wackes and graphitic shales. These are variably sericitized and mineralized with pyrrhotite, arsenopyrite and minor chalcopyrite and pyrite. Geotest sampling of these rocks returned weakly anomalous gold and Noramco sampling returned similar values with anomalous silver and copper. Metavolcanic rocks host sulphide mineralization in quartz veins and in sericitized shears. Fractures also cut mafic metavolcanics and are infilled by l to 2 mo wide sulphide veinlets. Pyrrhotite, pyrite and chalcopyrite are the predominant phases and are listed in order of decreasing abundance. Geotest and Noramco sampling returned weakly anomalous copper and zinc values.

from August 31 to September 6 , 1989. the field crew consisted of two to five geologists under the direction of Peter J. Whittaker and included Todd D. Kanpnan, Don Lee, E. Grayme Anthony and Brian Berdusco. A total of 78 outcrop samples were collected and submitted to Chemex labs Ltd. in Mississauga, Ontario for their Au * Trace 10 package.
Location and Access
TJ}e claim group (Table 1) is adjacent to Setting Net Lake, 200 kilometres north of Red Lake, Ontario and is centred about latitude 52 degrees, 46 minutes and longitude 93 degrees, 31 minutes (Fig. 1). Access is by charter float equipped aircraft from Red Lake. Setting Net Lake provides boat and shoreline access to the western part of the property. Iron the shoreline access is by foot. Several old drill roads and trails are on the property, but are heavily overgrown. For the purpose of Noramoo work, the field crew was based at the Zahavy minesite. From the minesite acoes was gained by the South Trout Lake and a branch road to the landing at Setting
; ' Net Creek, by boat along Setting Net Creek to the head of the portage trail to Setting Net lake. The trail is traversed by foot to Setting Net Lake and from there a boat was used. Viking Helicopters operated a Hughes 500D rotary wing aircraft based at the Zahavy minesite and this was used for the eastern most parts of the property.

Previous Work
Burst (1930) refers to an 1886 geological reconnaissance of the area by A.P. Low of the Geological Survey of Canada. Lew surveyed the Berens and Severn Rivers which led to discovery of the Favourable lake greenstone belt. Douglas (1926) examined the Favourable Lake belt for the Ontario Division of Mines in 1925. Ihis report instigated mineral exploration activity which was reported by Hurst (1930).
Unreported diamond drilling was done in the southeast corner of the property where it is underlain by intrusive granitoid rocks, This work may have been done in the 1940's or early 1950's. Galvanized keg shaped fuel drums and drums with "Air Force - U.S. Army11 stamped on them may suggest this period.
de Beorens River mine (Zahavy mine) is 4 kilometres north of the property. Ihis mine operated from 1939 to 1948 and produced 157,341 ounces of gold,
•') 5,676,486 ounces of silver, 6,105,872 pounds of lead and 1,797,091 pounds of zinc: from 560,707 tons of ore (Ayres, 1970).
A group of leased claims within the property known as the Itolef f claims were drilled by Kega Mines (3,451 feet) in 1944 - 1945. Peteque Mines Exploration Ltd. drilled 627 feet in 1952 and Senet Copper Mines Ltd. drilled 8,690 feet in 1956 - 1957 (Ayres, 1972). The Itolef f claims have copper and copper + gold -f- silver showings.
Continental Mining Corporation explored for copper on the peninsula southeast of the narrows and also examined the old "Oliver showings'1 east of the north of Setting Net Lake. This work was done in 1957 and included six diamond drill holes.
Ihe entire property area was part of a larger area napped by Ayres from 1968 to 1970 at a scale of 1/4 inch to l mile (Ayres; 1970, 1972).

Exploration Company Ltd. worked on a copper -i- molybdenum showing in 1969 that occurs at the north edge of the property and extends to the northeast. Diamond drilling in 1969 and 1978 defined an area of molybdenum mineralization about 300 m X 850 m. Assays from the 1978 drilling returned D.022% Mo over 188 m to Q.107% MD over 12.2 metres. Only one molybdenite showing is reported on the claim group (Ayres, 1970).
m 1970, Neoconex Canadian Exploration Ltd. conducted ground geophysical surveys on claims adjacent to and north of the Koleff claims. Ihis group of 46 claims was covered by ground horizontal loop EM and fluxgate magnetometer surveys.
Questor Surveys Ltd. flew airborne EM (INPUT) for Minorex Ltd. in March of 1970. This survey covered the current claim group. Seven conductive zones were identified and three of these zones were tested by six diamond drill holes.
Denison Mines Ltd. conducted a soil geochemical survey in 1979 in an area that corresponds to the northern part of the current claim group.
Geotest Oorporation retained R. D. Cruickshank, in September and October of 1987, to conduct a reconnaissance field program. This work consisted of pace and compass traverses to sample mineralized areas indicated on Ontario Department of Mines preliminary geological maps (Ayres, 1970).
Ihe work described in this report was conducted for property evaluation purposes by Nbramco Explorations Inc. geologists.

Ayres, 1974 and 1977 discusses volcanic stratigraphy of the Favourable Lake greenstone belt.
Regional Geology
The Setting Net lake claim group is underlain by Archean metavolcanic, volcanogenic metasedimentary and felsic intrusive rocks that make up part of the Favourable Lake greenstone belt (Ayres, 1970, -72 and -74). The Favourable Lake belt strikes approximately northwest and terminates in Manitoba. At its thickest, in the Setting Net Lake area, the greenstone belt is 13 kilometres wide an thins to a width of 2 kilometres in the Favourable Lake area. Overall the belt extends for about 160 kilometres and defines part of the Sachigo Subprovince of the Superior Province. (Fig. 2)
Supracrustal rocks of this greenstone belt are interpreted by Ayres' (1977) to represent part of collapsed caldera. Associated stratigraphy is divided into five major depositional cycles that encompass fifteen formations. The total stratigraphic thickness is estimated at 9.5 kilometres.
Metamorphism is greenschist facies in the central parts of the belt and rises to amphibolite and hornblende hornfels at the margins (Ayres, 1977). Isoclinal folding is present in the form of regional scale folds to cm scale second and third order parasitic folds.
Property Geology
Lithologies referred to are described in detail by Ayres (1970,-72 and -77) and are summarized in Table 2. Supracrustal rocks of the Favourable Lake belt that underlie the claim group have north northwest strike and subvertical dip (Fig. 3). Interflow roetasedimentary rocks in the northern

Apart of the claim group define anomalous northeast strike and shallow (35 degree southeast ) dips. This structure nay define a fold within stratigraphy with a northwest striking axial plane. Archean supracrustal rocks are intruded by granodioritic to quartz monzonite plutons and these in turn are intruded by mafic dikes.

The aiain structural feature of importance to the Setting Net property is a north northwest striking fault, or shear zone, lineament. Ihis feature extends through the property, closest to its eastern boundary. Parallel shears were noted in the trondhjemitic intrusion in the southeastern part of the property. These shears are narrow, from centimetres to tens of centimetres wide, the widest shear was about 1.5 metres vide. This area also hosts shear parallel quartz veins and corresponds to the area where anomalous gold values were obtained by Geotest Corp. (Cruidcshank, 1988).
Several northeast shears cut across the north northeast striking structure. The southernmost of these shears, shown on Geotests' map (Cruickshank, 1988), was drilled by parties unknown. Casings indicate a northerly plunge for the holes.
Folding on a kilometre scale may be defined by metasedimantary rocks in the northwest corner of the property, east of the north end of Setting Net Dike. These metasediments are mineralized and are known as the "Oliver area". They define an open syncline with a northwest striking axial plane, open to the southeast.

Sample descriptions and assays for samples collected during this work are tabulcited in Appendix I. Sample locations with values are shown on Fig.3. Five areas were examined with previously known areas of mineralization. These include showings hosted by; 1. Granodiorite
2. Metasedimentary rocks3. Mafic metavolcanic rocks
These areas were traversed by pace and compass and data were mapped onto air photo enlargements at a scale of about l":400'. localized magnetic anomalies caused compass deviations at roost of the mineralized localities.
Granodiorite ( Area l, Fig. 3)Part of a granodiorite pluton intrudes the southeast corner of the claim block. It defines a north northest trending wedge bounded on the east by a major lineament with similar strike and intermediate volcanics. To the
;) west, granodiorite is bounded by a thin unit of felsic volcanics.
Granodiorite that underlies the property is medium-grained to coarse-grained and subporphyritic. It is greyish-pink to greyish on weathered surfaces and tends towards darker shades on fresh surfaces. Normally massive structure is cut by 10 cm to 1.5 m wide shears.
Shears are strongly foliated and oriented at about 150/V. A less developed shear direction is 065/V; this direction was tested by diamond drilling, results are unknown. Individual shears weather to a rusty drab green or greenish tan. This reflects oxidation of a low percentage sulphides that has stained sericitized and sheared granodiorite. Grain size within shears is fine-grained to very fine-grained and equigranular.

Shear zones also host associated quartz veins, both within the shear in the case of wider ones, and adjacent to shears. Quartz veins are concordant with shearing, but are usually discontinuous along strike. Quartz veins are oonroonly 3 cm to 20 cm wide. Disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite may be observed at vein contacts or weakly disseminated within quartz. Where sulphides are present, veins are limonite stained.
Samples were taken from shear zones and quartz veins, these were assayed for Au (Table 3) . Sample descriptions for assays in Table 3 are given in Appendix I.
Metasedimentary Rocks ( Areas 2, 3 S 4, Fig. 3 )
Mineralized metasedimentary rocks were examined in the northeast, northcentral and northwest parts of the claim group. These occur as discontinuous tectonic slivers and as interflow depositional units.
Metasedimentary rocks include shale and graphitic shale, siltstone, argillite and wacke. Oxide facies iron formation is locally deposited at area 4 ( Fig. 3) . Mineralization hosted by areas 2, 3 and 4 includes predominantly pyrhotite with minor pyrite, chalcopyrite. An occurrence of molybdenite was observed at area 3, in a quartz vein that cut the metasediments. Arsenopyrite is suspected in some occurrences.
MEitasedimentary rocks exhibit north northwest bedding with steep to vcsrtical dips. Bedding strikes north northeast in the northwest corner of the property and may outline a fold. At this area dips are shallow to the southeast. Siltstones and argillites are thinly bedded with thicker wacke beds separating them.

Sulphide mineralization is predominantly disseminated in form with crosscutting fractures filled by massive sulphides, usually pyrrhotite. Pyrrhotite, the main sulphide phase, is fine-grained to medium-grained in disseminated form.
Assays are given in Table 4 and corresponding sanple descriptions in Appendix I.
Mafic Metavolcanic Rocks ( Area 5, Fig. 3)
Mafic metavolcanic rocks were examined in the northwest corner of the property in the vicinity of the outlet of Setting Net lake at Setting Net Creek.
Metabasalt flows in area 5 are massive, fine-grained to very fine-grained and equigranular. They have dark grey-green weathered surfaces and black-green fresh surfaces. In areas of strong chloritization they are dull earthy green.
This flow sequence is cut by approximately east striking vertical quartz veins and narrow shears. Quartz veins are 0.5 on to 3 cm wide, discontinuous along strike and separated by metres to tens of metres of metabasalt. In the area examined numerous quartz veins have up to 35 percent sulphides that are fine-grained to medium-grained. Sulphides include mainly pyrite with lesser amounts of chalcopyrite, often in a ratio of 3:1. Late fractures also cut these roetabasalts, are 0.5 to 1.5 mn wide and are pyrite * chalcopyrite filled. Ihis suggests late sulphide resnobilization.
Shear zones strike easterly and have vertical dip. Ihey are 5 cm to 1.0 m wide and are chloritized, weakly sericitized and carbonatized. Rusty brown weathered surfaces reflect oxidation of weakly disseminated sulphides and possibly iron carbonate.

Conclusions
The Setting Net Lake area is underlain by submarine basaltic volcanic rocks. These are interrupted by interflow metasedimentary units that include minor sulphide facies iron formation. These rocks represent a succession of volcanically active periods separated by by periods of quiescence in which fine-grained clastic sedimentation and chemical sedimentation took place. Deformation of these rocks was concomitant with intrusion of felsic ( granodioritic ) batholiths. Amphibolitization was probably a result of batholith emplacement and is overprinted on regional greenschist facies metamorphism.
Sulphide mineralization is hosted by felsic plutons, metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks. Mineralization in metasedimentary rocks may be syngenetic and is epigenetic in metavolcanic and felsic plutonic rocks where sulphide minerals of economic interest are quartz vein and shear zone hosted. Fart of the sulphide assemblage in metasedimentary rocks is secondary and fills fractures or exhibits replacement of primary beds. These secondary sulphides are possibly remobilized from syngenetic sulphides.
Results from the reconnaissance prospecting program suggest that quartz veins and sericitized shear zones in the granodiorite represent the highest potential target for gold. Sulphide occurrences in metasedimentary rocks are the secondary target for gold, silver and base metals, primarily copper.

Gold dn the granodiorite is confined to quartz veins and shears. These features are generally narrow ( l ea to 20 on ) and discontinuous along strike. It would be necessary to define a zone of closely spaced (50cm ?) veins and shears in order to outline a zone of economic significance. Current field work has not shown potential for this environment.
Sulphide mineralization in metasedimentary rocks is well developed in several of the localities visited. Outcrop areas are limited in thickness and strike length. Faulting and the interflow nature of netasedimentary units within the mafic pile limit their potential for large tonnage deposits. Gold values returned from this work suggest moderately anomalous but scattered values.
Recommendations
The discontinuous nature and narrowness of quartz veins and shears suggest limited potential for development of either a gold or base metals deposit. No further work is recommended at this time in light of the above conclusions.
If work were to continue in pursuit of gold or base metals the following should be done:
1. Establish a cut grid.2. Ground magnetic and VLF-EM surveys.3. Geologic mapping and sampling of the property with detailed work
around metasedimentary units and over the granodiorite body.4. Diamond drilling based on results from this program with some drilling
targeted at the north northwest striking lineament that forms the east: boundary of the intrusive.
