PrincipalPrasantaKumarBose,theillustriousandworthysonofAcharyaGirishChandraBose,founderofBangabasiCollege,aneminenteducationistofBengal, foundedtheMorningsectionoftheBangabasiCollegefortheneedyemployedstudentsin1940toteachCommerce.
In 1944Principal Bose opened up theArts and Science faculties in the evening time. FinallyemployedwomenwerealsoenrolledasstudentsbyPrincipalBose.ThroughtheintroductionofthePhaseReductionSchemeoftheUniversityGrantsCommission,BangabasiMorningCollegecameintoaseparateexistenceon11April,1965;undertheguidanceanddirectionofPrincipalPrasantaKumarBose.AtthattimethereweretenthousandstudentsinBangabasiCollege,butthenumberofstudentsinthecollegesofWestBengalhadtobereducedaspertheUniversityGrantsCommissionscheme.InaccordancewiththeScheme, Bangabasi Collegewas split up into three seperate colleges. Themorning shiftwas namedBangabasiMorningCollegeunderaseparateGoverningBody.DuringtheSecondWorldWarabranchoftheBangabasiCollegewasestablishedinKushtia(nowinBangladesh)in1942,asthepeopleofKolkataweretroubledbythebombingofJapanesetroops.AftertheSecondWorldWaritwasclosed.
BangabasiMorningCollege is located in the vicinity of Sealdah Station inKolkata. BangabasiCollegeisaneducationalinstitutionwitharichculturaltraditioninitsbackground.Ithaditsgenesisintheprophetic vision and spirit of sacri�icial dedication of Acharya Girish Chandra Bose. At the outset,BangabasiCollegewasfoundedunderprivatemanagementin1887andhadasitsguidinginspirationthegeniusofPanditIswarChandraVidyasagar.Theaimofthecollegewasbasicallytwo-fold-tocatertothegrowingdemandforhighereducationandtonurturethespiritofnationalisminthemindsofyounglearnersundercolonicalyoke.Itmarkedanindirectprotest-challengingthenarroweducationalpolicyoftheHunterCommission.
ThisinstitutionseminallyemergedfromBangabasiSchool,foundedbyAcharyaGirishChandraBosein1855inBowbazarStreet.Thecollegemovedintoitspresentpremisesat19,ScottLane(nowRajKumarChakrabortySarani)in1903.
The College derived its name from the then patriotic newspaper Bangabasi. Acharya GirishChandraBose,amanofastoundingpersonalityandforesight,�illedwithamissionaryzealofpatrioticreverberation,plantedthissaplingat16,BowbazarStreeton1June,1887,withonly�iveteachersandtwelvestudents.Thesaplingwithstoodthestormsandstressesofthedecadesandnowlikeaverybigbanyantreegivesshadeandextendssheltertoseveralthousandstudentsofmeritandability,hundredsofteachersandwith real integrityandacquisitionandmanynon-teachersof admirableef�iciency.Thecollegehasacompositeamalgumofacademicsandstudentcommunity.
DuringthedaysofalienruletheInstitutionservedasarefugeforpoliticalsufferersstudentsaswell as teachers. The nationalist spirit nurtured by the College was amply evident in the activeparticipationofstudentsandteachersintheagitationagainstthepartitionofBengalin1905andalsointheCivilDisobedienceMovementculminatinginthesupremesacri�iceofmartyrJatindraNathDas,anundergraduatestudentofthecollege,inhisepicfastforuntodeathinLahoreJailon13September,1929.
SomeoftheillustriousteachersofthisCollegesuchasLadlyMohanMitraandSatyanandaRoy,werethepioneerstoextendthefacilitiesofhighereducationtothetoilingmassoftheworkingstudentswhowerecompelledtoengagethemselvesindifferentjobsintheday-timeandweredeprivedofcollegeeducation,byopeningthemorningclassesunderthebannerofBangabasiMorningCollege.

Since its inception,BangabasiMorningCollegehasembarkedonthetaskofinstillingavalue-based nationalistic knowledge-basea long wi th sc ien t i � i c unders tand ing .Disseminating knowledge in society by thisholistic and futuristic model of education asconceived by its illustrious founder AcharyaGirish Chandra Bose has been the primarymission of this Institution. Throughout itshistory Bangabasi Morning College hasdedicated itself to the cause of the poor andunderprivilegedstudents. It isstillcontinuingthis mission by arranging scholarships,stipends from different agencies and bygranting free and subsidised studentship and�inancialsupport to thepoorandmeritoriousstudents from the Students' Aid Fund of theCollege.Beingmorningcollege,thisInstitutionisservinganothersocialneed,thatisextendingthe educational opportunities to the studentswho are engaged in different jobs in variousparts of the city of Kolkata and its outskirtsduringthedaytime.Infact,themainaimofthiscollegehasalwaysbeentoprovideeducationalopportunitiestothepoor,underprivilegedandin-servicestudents,asubstantialproportionofwhom are �irst-generation learners. Althoughthecollegedoesnothavetherequisiteauthoritytodesignthecurricula,theteachersarealwayskeentohandlethedifferentpartsofthesyllabi�lexiblyaccordingtheneedsofthelearners.TheCollegehaswide-rangingcoursesfromalmostall themajor streams to offer to its students.Keeping in mind to the local, regional andnational needs the College has, from time totime introduced a range of new courses andupgraded the existing courses so that thestudentsareexposedtothechangingneedsofour society. The College also regularly seekspeerreviewsfromdifferentacademiciansandre-orients its activities as and when somevaluable suggestions for change come.BangabasiMorningCollegeiswhole-heartedlydedicated to the all-round development ofpersonality of all its students by imparting avalue-based, liberal, modern and self-relianteducation.

Af�iliated to theUniversity of Calcutta inaccordancewiththe2(f)and12(b)clausesoftheUniversity Grants Commission, BangabasiMorningCollege isstillagreatexampleofaco-educationalInstitutionduringthemorningtimeoffering three-year Honours course in differentsubjects. In its continuing endeavour forimpartingeducationtoallitsstudents,includingasubstantial proportion of �irst-generationlearners, in a simple but effective manner thecollegehasmadeitsmarkasoneofthepremieracademicinstitutionsinthestateofWestBengal.Itscontributioninextendingfrontiersofsociallysigni�icantknowledgeiswell-manifestedthroughits illustriousalumniasmanyof itsex-studentsholdkeypositions invarious �ieldsbothwithinthe country and Many eminent educationists,ministers, Policy-makers, doctors, technocrats,bureaucrats and socialworkers have graduatedfromthisCollege.ThisCollege isnowmakingaspecialeffortforplacementofstudentsattheendofcollege-life.Thus,wehaverecentlyintroducedself-�inancingcoursesandareplanning toopenmoreinthenearfuture.TheCollegeiscommittedtoprovidinganeducationthatisconsistentwiththeneedsofanevolvingknowledge-basedsociety.
It istobementionedwithpridethatourCollegehasbeenre-accreditedwith"A"gradebythe National Assessment and AccreditationCouncil(NAAC)inDecember2016.
SCALINGNEWHEIGHTS
Giventhepaucityofspaceandlimitationsoftimeimposedbythedynamicsofrunningthreecolleges in the samebuilding,weareheldbackfromincreasinghoursof teaching-learningandexpanding infrastructural facilities/componentsat virtually every turn. Such constraints canpotentially have a stagnating effect on theinstitution in the long run, especially resourcescannot be made satisfactorily available tosupplementhuman
resources,howeverrich,sincereandcommitted.In December 2016, to our great delight, suchapprehensions were dispelled when the entirecollegefraternityworked
togetherforre-accreditationbytheNAACPeerTeam and earned a much-coveted 'A Grade, averyrareinstanceforanycollegewhichdoesnothaveeventhebuildingexclusivelyforitself,nottomention it'smuch shorter and overlappingtime-span.Weareproudtosaythatnoteworthyresearch contributions from faculty membersacroosdepartmentsandmaximumutilizationofwhateverresourcesareavailableforcurricularandco-curricularactivitiesalikenavebeentheessentiallyenablingfactors;theyweregreatandcontinuetoremaininstrumentalinsettingourthe aspirations high. If funds from the UGC,recommendationsbytheNAACPeerTeamandjudicious planning on our part cater insynchronicity,awecancertainlyraise thebarandachieve-likethe'A'Grade-muchmore,someof which, eve3n we ourselves cannot foreseenow.

In exercise of the powers conferred by Section-54 of The Calcutta University Act. 1979, theUniversity of Calcutta hereby makes the following Regulations for Semester-wise 3 yearB.A./B.Sc./B.Mus.(Honours/General)CoursesofStudiesunderCBCS,2018.
TheseshallapplytoeverycandidatepursuingtheaboveCoursesinthisUniversity.
Notwithstandinganythingcontainedinanyotherregulationsorrulesforthetimebeinginforcethestudy for theaboveCoursesshallbeguidedby theseRegulationseffective fromtheAcademicSession2018-2019.
1. TITLEANDCOMMENCEMENT
1.1.These Regulations shall be called THE REGULATIONS FOR SEMESTER-WISE THREE YEARB.A./B.Sc./B.Mus (Honours/General) DEGREE PROGRAMMES UNDER CBCS (CHOICE BASEDCREDITSYSTEM),UNIVERSITYOFCALCUTTA.
1.2. TheseRegulationsshallcomeintoforcewitheffectfromtheacademicsession2018-2019.
2. DURATIONOFTHEPROGRAMME
The3yearB.A./B.Sc./B.Mus.(Honours/General)Programmeshallbeforaminimumdurationofsix(6)consecutivesemestersofsix(6)monthseach,i.e.,three(3)years.TheoddsemesterwillstartordinarilyinthemonthofJulyandtheevensemesterinthemonthofJanuaryofeveryyear.
Acandidatepursuingaregularcourseofstudyforthree-yearsemester-wisedegreecourseshallhavetoclearallthesemestersinallrespectswithinasperof�iveyearsfromtheyearofadmissiontotheparticularcourseandcombination,failingwhichenrolmentofthecandidateshallstandcancelled.
3. APPLICABILITYOFTHEREGULATIONS
Theseregulationsshallbeapplicableto:
a. ThestudentswhoaretakingadmissiontotheB.A./B.Sc./B.Mus.(Honours/General)Coursefromtheacademicsession2018-2019.
b. The studentswhowere admitted in earlier sessions but did not enroll for B.A./B.Sc./B.Mus.(Honours/General)Part-lExaminationsupto2018.
c. The students who were admitted in earlier sessions and enrolled for B.A./B. Sc./B.Mus.(Honours/General)Part-lExaminationsbutdidnotappearinPart-lExaminationsupto2018.
d. The students who were admitted in earlier sessions and appeared in B.A./B. Sc./B.Mus(Honours/General)Part IExaminations in2018orearlier shall continue tobeguidedby theexistingRegulationsofAnnualSystem.

4.(a) AcandidatewhohaspassedtheHigherSecondary(10+2)oritsequivalentExaminationiseligibletoseekadmissiontothe1styearofthe3year(sixsemester)B.A./B.Sc./B.Mus.(Honours/General)CourseofStudiesprovideshe/shehasalsopassedinEnglishhavingfullmarksnotbeinglessthan100andfulfuillstheconditionsaslaiddowninClauses5,10,11and12.
CandidateswhohavepassedtheHigherSecondary(10+2)VocationalexaminationconductedbytheWest Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training shall be eligible to seekadmissiontotheB.A.(General)1styearCourseofStudiestakingthesubjectsunderHumanitiesDivisiononly.However,nocandidateshallbeallowedadmissionafteralapseofmorethan5yearsfromtheyearofpassingthepreviousqualifyingexamination.
Explanation:Theyearofadmissionshallnotbetakenintoaccountwhilecalculating�iveyearsfromtheyearofpassingthepreviousqualifyingExamination.
(b) StudentswhohavepassedtheHigherSecondary(10+2)ExaminationofitsequivalentfromtheAllIndiaBoards/Councils(i.e.CBSE,ISCandNationalInstituteofOpenSchooling)neednotrequiretosubmitMigrationCerti�icateforgettingRegistrationundertheUniversity.
5. For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the B.A./B.Sc./B.Mus.(Honours/General)Coursesaggregatemarksshallbecalculatedbyaddingthemarksintop-foursubjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. Marks in compulsory EnvironmentalEducation/Studiesshallnotbetakenintoaccountorcalculationofaggregatemarks.However,Ifthesubject'EnvironmentalScience'isstudiedasanelectivesubjectof100marks,itmaybetakenintoaccountforthepurposeofdeterminingtheaggregatemarks.
(A)ACANDIDATETAKINGUPHONOURSCOURSEINASUBJECTMUSTHAVEOBTAINED
i. Aminimumof50%marksintheaggregateand45%marksinthesubjectorrelatedsubjectatthepreviousqualifyingexamination[incaseofB.Mus.(Hons)45%marksintheaggregateand45%marksinthesubjectMusic,inthepreviousqualifyingexamination].
Orii. 55%marksinthesubjectorrelatedsubjetatthepreviousqualifyingexamination[incaseofB.
Mus.(Hons.)50%marksinthesubjectMusicatthepreviousqualifyingexamination.]Or
iii. 50%marksintheaggregatewhenthecandidatehasnotstudiedthesubjectinhis/herpreviousqualifyingexaminationsprovidedallotherclausesaresatis�ied[incaseofB.Mus.(Hons.)-45%marksintheaggregatewhenthecandidatehasnotstudiedthesubjectMusicinthepre-qualifyingexamination,CandidatesshallbeadmittedonthebasisoftheAdmissionTesttobeconductedbytheCollegeAuthorityconcerned).
(b) Candidates belonging to Reserved Categories taking up Honours Course of Studymust haveobtained aminimumof 40%marks in the aggregate or40%marks in the subject or relatedsubjectsatthepreviousqualifyingexamination,asthecasemaybe.
(c) ReservationPolicyforadmissioninthreeyear(sixsemesters)degreecoursesofstudiesshallbeguidedbytheWestBengalStateHigherEducationalInstitutions(ReservationinAdmission),Act,2013andtheWestBengalStateHigherEducationalInstitutions(ReservationinAdmission)Rules,2014.

6. ATTENDANCE
6.1.Astudentattendingatleast75%ofthetotalnumberofclassesheldshallbeallowedtoappearattheconcernedSemesterExaminationssubjecttoful�illmentofotherconditionslaiddownintheregulations.
6.2.Astudentattendingatleast60%butlessthan75%ofthetotalnumberofclasses"heldshallbeallowedtoappearattheconcernedSemesterExaminationssubjecttothepaymentofprescribedcondonationfeesandful�illmentofotherconditionslaiddownintheregulations.
6.3.Astudentattendinglessthan60%ofthetotalnumberofclasses*heldshallnotbeallowedtoappearattheconcernedSemesterExaminationsandhe/shehasnopursueadmissiontothesameSemester in the verynext year for attending the classes and appearing at the said SemesterExamination.Suchattendancewillbecalculatedfromthedateofcommencementofclassesorthedateofadmission,whicheverislater.
7. OUTLINEOFCHOICEBASEDCREDITSYSTEM
A) CoreCourse (CC):A course,which should compulsorilybe studiedbya candidateas a corerequirementistermedasaCoreCourse.

b) IncaseofB.Sc./B.Mus.GeneralProgrammeastudentshallhavetostudy4CoreCoursesofeachofthe3chosensubjectsasspeci�iedforeachofthe�irst4Semesters.
c) IncaseofB.A.Generalprogrammeastudentshalhavetostudy4CoreCoursesofeachofthe2chosensubjectsasspeci�iedforeachofthefrst4Semesters.Inaddition4CoreCoursestobestudied; two courses each from two language subjects LCC1- English& LCC2-MIL(Bengali/Hindi/Urdu)/AlternativeEnglishasspeci�iedforeachofthelast4Semesters.
B) ElectiveCourse:Generallyacoursewhichcanbechosenfromapoolofcoursesandwhichmaybeveryspeci�icorspecializedoradvancedorsupportivetothediscipline/subjectofstudyorwhichprovidesanextendedscopeorwhichenablesanexposuretosomeotherdiscipline/subjectdomainornurturesthecandidate'spro�iciency/skilliscalledanElectiveCourse.

Dissertation/Project An elective course designed to acquire special/advanced knowledge, is termed as
dissertation/project.Thisisconsideredasaspecialcourseinvolvingapplicationofknowledgeinsolvinganalyzingexploringareallifesituationdif�icultproblem.Adissertation/projectworkwillbeof6credits.Adissertation/projectworkmaybegiveninlieuofaDisciplineSpeci�icElective.
ii) Generic Elective (GE) Course: An elective course chosen generally from an unrelateddiscipline/subject,withanintentiontoseekwideexposure,iscalledGenericElective.

CONDUCTANDDISCIPLINE:
EachstudentisprovidedwithanidentityCardwithhis/herphotographattestedbythePrincipalortheCollege.Thisisanimportantdocumentandshouldbecarefullypreserved.StudentsmustcometotheCollegewiththeirCollegeidentityCardwhichtheyshouldproduceondemand.Incaseofloss,astudentshallhavetomakeanFIRwiththeLocalPoliceStationandapplytothePrincipalwiththeFIRnumberforaduplicateidentityCardwhichmaybeissuedonpaymentofRs.50only.
Every studentmust see the collegeNoticeBoardeveryday tokeep,himself/herselfproperlyinformed through various notices issued by the College from time to time; ignorance of any factcirculatedthroughanynoticeforreasonsofnon-perusalofthenoticeonthepartofanystudent,forwhatevergrounds,shallnotentitlehimtoanyspecialtreatment.
Misbehaviorwith teachersandmembersof thestaff isaseriousoffenceandmay lead to theexpulsionoftheoffender.
Anydiscourtesytowardsgirl-studentsshallbeseverelypunished;itmayevenleadtoexpulsionofthecollege.
OutsidersarenotpermittedwithintheCollegepremisesandstudentsmustnotbringoutsiderstothecollegeforanyreason.

Loiteringinthecorridor,disturbingclasses,copyinginexaminations,aretreatedasmisconductandbreachofdisciplinemaywarrantpunitiveaction.
Students are to maintain discipline inside and outside the College. Smoking in the CollegeVerandahs,CommonRooms,Lawns,andClassRoomsisstrictlyprohibited.
ATTENDANCE:
Name of students absent from the college for a period of over 30 dayswithout anywrittenintimationareliabletobestruckofftherolls.
Itiscompulsoryforallstudentstoappearforallcollegetestsandexaminationsandscoretherequisitepassmarks,alongwithnecessaryclassattendance,inordertobepromotedtothenexthigherclass.
A candidate shall be considered as Collegiate if he/she has attended 75% or above lecturesdelivered/practical classesheld ineachof the subjects/groupof subjectsandasNon-collegiate ifattendance in any subject / group of subjects falls short of 75%but not below60%. CandidatesdeclaredNon-collegiatemaybeallowedto�illinapplicationformsforexaminationonpaymentofrequisiteNon-collegiatefees.Acandidatewhohasnotattendedatleast60%oflecturesdelivered/practicalclassesheldinanysubject/groupofsubjectsshallbeconsideredasdiscollegiateandshallbedebarredfromappearingintheUniversityFinalExamination.

AllpaymentsshouldalwaysbemadeincashattheBankofBaroda,SealdahBranchonlyagainstareceiptintheproperprintedform.

TheamountoftheLaboratoryorLibraryDepositisrefundedafternecessarydeductionswhenstudents�inallyleavetheCollege.
TuitionFees for everymonthmustbepaid in advancewithin the20thof themonthsunlessotherwisenoti�ied.A�ineofRs.20/-permonthischargedfordelayinpaymentoffees.NamesofthedefaultersforthreeconsecutivemonthsarestruckofftheCollegeRolls.Forrestorationtheywillhavetoclearallthedueswitha�ineofRs10/-.
StudentsdesiringtotakeTransferCerti�icatewithintheacademicyear,willhavetopayallCollegeduesforthewholesessionalongwiththeTransferFeewhichiseqivalenttoonemonth'sTuitionFees.TransferCerti�icatecannotbeissuedtostudentsmigratingfromanyotherUniversityorBoardunlesstheyareregisteredinCalcuttaUniversity.Frequentchangeofsubjectsisnotallowed(inanycase).Theintendedchangemaybeallowedonceonlywithinamonthfromthedateofcommencementofclasses.Studentsmustalwayskeepinmindthatitistheirprimedutytokeepthecollegecompoundclean.Writingonthewallsmustbeadvoidedinallcases.
Studentsmustnotenterorleaveaclasswithoutthepermissionoftheteacher.
Whena teacher isabsent,studentsmustmaintaindisciplineamongthemselvessothatotherclassesmaycontinuepeacefully.
Shouldanycollegepropertybedamagedintheclassroomsthelossmayberecoveredbya�ineimposed upon the whole class, if the student/students responsible for such damage cannot bedetected.
