assets, including director’s right to inspect
documents, Mareva injunctions, appointment
of provisional liquidators and powers of
provisional liquidators, powers available to
liquidators, examination of relevant persons
under s.286B of the Companies (Winding Up
and Miscellaneous Provisions) Ordinance
(Cap.32), and appointment of receivers.

Speakers
Tara Liao
Tara was called to the bar in 2015 and is developing a
broad civil practice in commercial injunctions, company
and insolvency, competition, trust, arbitration, defamation,
land, insurance and cross-border disputes.
Before joining the bar, Tara was a solicitor at Kennedys
specialising in commercial litigation and regulatory
matters. In addition to her Hong Kong qualifications, she
has a bachelor degree in PRC Laws from Peking University
and passed the PRC bar examination before completing
her common law education and training.
James Wood
James is an experienced litigator whose legal career in
Hong Kong spans more than two decades. His association
with Denis Chang’s Chambers goes back to 1993, when he
served as a summer pupil in the chambers.
James was most recently a Solicitor Advocate and Partner
at an international law firm before transferring to the Hong
Kong Bar. He has practised as a financial services and
disputes lawyer with Freshfields, Goldman Sachs and
O’Melveny & Myers, where he acted on some of the best-
known cases arising out of the global financial crisis.
Isabel Tam
Isabel Tam was called in 2013 and has a broad civil
practice. She was awarded the Bar Scholarship in 2012.
Her practice has an emphasis on public law, family law,
commercial law, regulatory matters, and land law and
building management.
Isabel graduated with a first class LLB and with distinction
in her LLM. She has an MA in competition law. She is also
a US-qualified attorney.
