ADAS - (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems)

ADAS address the future development of the vehicle with special

emphasis on the use of ICT technologies in terms of semi-autonomous

and autonomous driving

Objective and Outlook:

designed to provide essential information and automate complex or

repetitive tasks, leading to an overall increase in driver situational

awareness, safety, vehicle dynamics and comfort

primarily focused on collision avoidance technologies

= to assist the driver & to avoid accidents

existing ADAS show a potential for the reduction

of accidents but also to reduce the impact energy

in case of accidents

20

Discussion

What is the time-line to change legal requirements for ADAS and

automated driving?

How will the future personal transport in cities look like- in which

time from now a disruptive change in city vehicle design might be

introduced guaranteeing a „perfect“ active safety? Is “perfect”

possible?

Will there be a coexistence of “all performance cars” and

vehicles with strongly reduced performance and passive safety

for inner city transport (autonomous taxis, EN-Vs, Pods)?

Will the customer accept lower requirements on passive safety,

since he is less protected in higher speeds?

Page 21: Prototypische Headline für Deckblatt...ADAS –Key ADAS System Battlegrounds More camera-based driver assist systems will be deployed ADAS is still in an early development phase,

21

Discussion

How will automated systems be developed and validated for low

failure risk?

In such a scenario – will we insist in possessing such vehicles or

will we use vehicle sharing & renting models? Will people accept

and like it?

Will future ADAS enable future

lightweight Technologies?

What influence does ADAS systems

have on different drive trains?

Conclusions

ADAS is one of the fastest growth areas in automotive electronics.

The global ADAS market is expected to grow from around $18.5bn in

2013 to around $165bn in 2018*

(Semi-)autonomous cars being developed by auto OEMs is making

the ADAS market progress at a very fast rate in the technology

perspective

With costs of the ADAS coming down, this has seen a rise in the

demand for these systems (luxury cars mass production).Suppliers need to offer a scalable platform that allows cost-effective

deployment across a range of features & price points.

ADAS development is seeing safety & infotainment worlds collideSafety-centric companies are seeking to hold onto this market

Center-stack-centric companies seeking to expand and leverage their increasingly

powerful processors and HMI technologies

Global OEMs are typically wary of sourcing safety from non-traditional safety

vendors.

23

ADAS – demand on System Level

Parking and lighting systems ~63% of market in 2010

Down to 27% by 2019 as other systems see faster growth

24

ADAS – demand on Sensor Level

Ultrasonic sensors not going away!

Camera sensors show excellent mix of growth & volume

Marktanteil von rund 63%, es ist absehbar, dass sich dieser Anteil bis

2019 auf rund 27% verringern wird, zu Gunsten anderer ADAS-Systeme

ADAS – Key ADAS System Battlegrounds

More camera-based driver assist systems will be deployed

ADAS is still in an early development phase, hardware and algorithms are

in flux. growing use of sensor fusion Cluster processing power

requirements will increase

Head-up display (HUD) is ideal match for many ADAS products

Infotainment companies to expand into ADAS?

HMI: How best to communicate? Legislation?

ADAS,…what about the autonomous car?

Legislation being put into place to support autonomous driving

developments:

Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles issued the first license for a self-driven

car in May 2012. Nevada's regulations require a person behind the wheel and

one in the passenger’s seat during tests. Google's autonomous system permits

a human driver to take control by stepping on the brake or turning the wheel.

Strategy Analytics believes that fully autonomous vehicles will take

many years to reach market maturity. Steps along the way will include:

More mandating of ADAS technologies for conventional vehicles

Deployment of autonomous technologies for highway “platooning” (e.g.

EU SATRE project)
