A Message from the Monument Team
The community of Steamboat Rock has roots that go deep into the his-
tory of the beginnings of our great nation, the united States of America.
There are many events and stories that have made this special colnmu-
nity what it is today. However, it is the people of this community and
the lives that they live that remind us that it is people not things that
bring dignity, honor, and courage into our world.
Today we want to honor a special gfoup of people from Steamboat
Rock who have risked their lives that we might live in freedom today.
veterans from the Mexican war to those veterans serving yet today
provide us with the opportunities and freedoms we so enjoy' We hum-
Lty tt unt you and hope to never forget the sacrifices that you have
made during wartime and peace time. This monument we dedicate to-
day is in honor of you and the example you have set of sacrificial giv-
ing to our great nation and our community.
A sense of community has been a huge part of the process of this monu-
ment. Many have given their time, money, and skills to make this pos-
sible. To each of you we owe a huge debt of thanks for your willing-ness to make this veterans Monument possible. As you view the
monument before you, we hope you enjoy its beauty and that you willbe reminded that freedom is not free.
We count it an honor to serve the veterans and this community.

The four aircraft flying overhead today are being provided by the NorthAmerican Flight Team out of Blaine, Minnesota. Known as the "pilotmaker", the WW2 era T-6 was the most widely produced trainer everbuilt. These aircraft were used to train pilots during WW2, the KoreanWar, and early on in the Vietnam War. This particular aircraft, afteryears as a trainer for the United States, was sold to the Spanish AirForce and fitted with .30 cal. machine guns and under-wing bombracks. It was used in anti-guerilla missions over North Africa, servinguntil 1986. Specifications:

Jeeps
The first jeep driven this afternoon is a Model M38A1 jeep that wasused during the Korean War. The driver of the jeep is Dick Butters, aKorean War Veteran. Riding in the rear of the jeep are WW2 VeteransRussell Karsjens (Army Air Force) and Paul Primus (Navy).
The second jeep driven today is a Model M15lA2 jeep that was usedduring the Vietnam War. The driver of the jeep is Arnie Luiken, aVietnam Veteran. Riding in the rear of the jeep are WW2 Veterans Ro-land Newby (Army) and Charles Ruby (Coast Guard).
Both of these jeeps were brought here today by the owner Gary Pearsonfrom Osage, Iowa.
