About Us

New Horizons enables people with disabilities to realize

their human potentials and become valued citizens within their communities.

The mission of New Horizons Resources, Inc. is to enable people with developmental disabilities to achieve fulfilling lives within their local communities by establishing a home,

belonging, self-determination, learning, productivity and individual respect.

New Horizons Resources, Inc. is a not-for-profit agency that provides services to children and adults who have developmental disabilities and live in the Hudson Valley Region of

New York State. New Horizons Resources, Inc. was founded in 1974 by a group of parents seeking alternatives to institutionalized care for their sons and daughters. In 1981, the agen-

cy opened its first residences for adults with developmental disabilities. The agency’s founders wanted to create services that would provide a home and the reasonable assur-ance of lifetime care. They also wanted to give people with disabilities opportunities to

build friendships and establish relationships in their communities.

Charitable donations from individuals, businesses and foundations have been a part of New Horizons’ history since the agency was formed in 1974. Long before New Horizons was eligible for state and federal monies to operate its programs, cash contributions from people who believed in its mission funded the agency’s initial work. In 1991, the New Ho-rizons Foundation was created to further the long-standing commitment of countless vol-unteers, supporters and friends who have given their time, talent and financial support for

more than 30 years.

Much of the Foundation’s work of raising funds to enhance both the quality and quantity of New Horizons’ services is accomplished at a variety of special events held through the

year, through mailed appeals, grant proposals to foundations, memorial donations, planned giving arrangements such as wills, trusts and a capital campaign.

A critical part of the Foundation’s success is the commitment of time and talent volun-teered by community minded individuals. From board members to event volunteers, the Foundation offers many opportunities to anyone interested in furthering New Horizons’ mission of providing quality services to children and adults who have developmental disa-

bilities. Whether its assisting in the purchase of a pair of glasses or helping to pay for a special needs camp, the New Horizons Foundation strives to provide financial assistance

where needed within the Agency.

As part of the Ascena Retail Group family of stores, Catherines serves a unique niche in the marketplace, offering beautiful fashions and intimates in hard-to-find extended sizes and a proprietary fit customers love. But Catherines is far more than just a place to shop. Em-bracing the same sense of community on which it was founded, Catherines seeks to engage, connect, inform and inspire the women they serve, and deliver on an extraordinary brand promise, "We Fit You Beautifully."
