Delegate Experience
words from the president
Welcome! On behalf of the DECA U Board of Directors, I invite you to participate in Canada’s premier professional development conference, DECA U Provincials 2016. We are proud to host Canada’s largest undergraduate conference, attended by more than 1500 delegates from Ontario’s top post- secondary institutions. Each year we strive to provide unrivalled value for our delegates, creating an experience like no other. Our theme this year is “Be Bold, Be DECA U”, celebrating the tenacity, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit which are central to success in today’s business environment. We take great pride in our extensive programming options, allowing delegates to participate in competitive categories from finance, to professional sports management. It is our aim to build on the success of previous conferences, adding more value to delegates through professional workshops, interaction with speakers, engaging evening activities, and cases which are relevant in real-time. As part of the improved value for our delegates, we are very excited to announce our newest program “DECA U’s Winners Circle”, where champions from competitive events and chapter leaders will be invited to participate in an exclusive networking session with top executives from our Partner’s firms! From the moment you arrive in Toronto, through to closing ceremonies, we promise that you will create countless memories which will last a lifetime. It has been a great honour to plan DECA U’s 12th Annual Provincial Conference. I encourage all delegates to take this conference as an opportunity to push boundaries in order grow both personally and professionally. So go ahead, “suit up”, challenge yourself, and prepare for the weekend of a lifetime. We look forward to hosting you this January, as Ontario’s young business leaders descend on Toronto. Please feel free to contact me anytime at [email protected]. The countdown is on!

quiz bowl
PMI
advertising campaign challenge
A unique team style event. Quiz bowl is a rapid fire test where teams are required to answer a range of business and DECA-related questions in a fast-paced, highly energetic, and pressurized environment. Each chapter can submit one team of four individuals to compete in this Reach for the Top-style competition (these individuals will not be allowed to compete in the other Special Events categories, but they will be allowed to compete in the traditional Individual and Team categories). Though past experience is not required, we highly recommend someone with fast reflexes and works well under pressure. No one ever said that winning the prestigious Quiz Bowl Trophy was easy - do you think YOU have what it takes to bring it home?
DECA U’s Innovation Challenge this year will be presented by the Project Management Institute of Ontario, which administers the Project Management Professional (PgMP), and Portfolio Management Professional (PMP) certifications among many others. The case will require teams to solve a complex issue using project management competencies, and will be judged by professionals within the membership association who have extensive experience in the industry. DetailsNumber of Participants: 2-3Presentation: 20 minutesMAX. 2 teams per school
In the Advertising Campaign Challenge competitors take on the role of a firm specializing in marketing who has been hired to be advertising consultants by a NFP organization. Competitors are responsible for creating and executing a full marketing campaign for their client. A more complex and challenging twist to your typical marketing case, we are proud to present this event in conjunction with Canadian Blood Services. As one of the largest non for profit organizations in Canada, Canadian Blood Services provides lifesaving blood to thousands of Canadians annually. Champions of the Advertising Campaign Challenge will have an opportunity to meet with Canadian Blood Services marketing personal to potentially have their strategy implemented. DetailsNumber of Participants: 2-3Presentation: 20 minutesMAX. 2 teams per school Cases will be released December 1 20158/

winners circle
This year we will be hosting a panel that will consist on industry professionals who took the step out of their comfort zone and became bold. They will share their experience as graduated students and how they transitioned in to the working world and into their current positions. You will be able to ask these panelist questions as the live audience and through social media.
Cases will be sponsored by a partner in the relevant industry. This means that your role play will likely be judged by a partner who played a role in writing the case, ensuring that you receive valuable feedback and is heard by someone who is as interested in solving the problem presented as you are. This also means that prizes for overall winners can include prizes in-kind or a coffee date or interview with the sponsoring partner.
Winners from each case category will be invited to a private net working session with companies who will be looking for potential interns, co-op students and full time employees. This event will be hosted on a date after the competition.
