    India won the Prudential World Cup by defeating West Indies on 1983 June 25. The team which broughtglory to the nation was led by the legendary Kapil Dev. Th team was consisted of P.R Man Singh (Manager),Yashpal Sharma, K Srikanth, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Ravi Shastri, Sandeep Patil, Roger Binny, KirtyAzad, Sunil Valson, Dilip Vengsarkar, Syed Kirmani, Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Devhimself.

    Man of the match was Mohinder Amarnath and the top scorer was Krishnamachari Srikanth. Duringthis period India was ruled by President Giani Zail Singh and Prime minister Indira Gandhi.

    June 25 was a coincidence as it was the same date and venue (Lords England) when India had her firsttest debut against England. Mohinder was Kapils deputy for the 1983 world cup. India played againstAustralia, West Indies and Zimbabwe during the group matches. West Indies lost the glory of having theesuccessive cup by failing to India. Kapil Dev, Yashpal Sharma Madan Lal, Roger Binny, and MohinderAmarnath have won the man of the match title during the game with Amarnath getting two (final andsemifinal). Duncan Fletcehr the current Indian Cricket Coach was a member of Zimbabwe team defeatedIndia twice in the matches. Sunil Valson did not even play a match in the game, but championship member.

    Kapil Dev wrote in his autobiography, Straight from the Heart I was in a trance like state when I beganmy innings. It was , however, one of those days, when nothing could go wrong. I do not believe I willsee another day like that in my career. about the incredible match winning knock (175 not out) but notpreserved in film due to a flash strike by BBC.
