    GREETINGS

    FROM

    AMBAN

    We rust

    that

    l l

    of

    you

    had

    a

    ery enjoyable

    holiday time and henew

    earhas

    egun with

    many o s i t i v e signs

    of blessings

    and peace.

1983 brought many hanges for us but

    we

    re

able to see God's leading in our

    ministry in

    PapuaNew Guinea. Although

    the

    move ac k

    to Samban

    in April

    was d i f f i c u l t and the

    obstacles

    were

    numerous

    we settled in very

    w e l l . Our

    oal

    s to

    become

    luent

    n

    the

    Botin

language during these next few months. We

    know

    t won't

    be easy butwe e a l i z e

    more and

    more

    that

    t ' s

    the

    only

    way

    we

    can

    complete

    the job we

    came

    ere to do.

    As wemove

    loser to our

    o a l ( s ) , we

    e a l i z e

    that

the devil s just as determined

    to

    impede

    our progress or halt the

    work n t i r e l y . Please

    be

    in

    fervent

    prayer

    for

    us.

    Pray

    that

    we

    i l l

    not be

    deceived

    by his i e s and

    hat

    our faith

    w i l l

    remain

    strong

    as we

    rust Him who is

    able

    to do exceeding

    abundantly beyond a l l

    that we sk or

    think.

    Moreover,

    we

    ave

    concluded

    that

    fluency in

    Botin sthe

    rock

    foundation o allof ur work.

    It s imperative

    that

    we chieve luency before

    time o l l s around for our urlough. This w ould

    mean

    that upo

    our

    return to Samban we

    would

    have

    very l i t t l e

    reviewing

    to

    d o

    and

    thus ould go u l l - t h r o t t l e with the ranslation

    work. I n terms of

    our

    plans, his means

    hat

    we i l l

    probably

extend this term for a ew

    more months.

    This has been one of

    those difficult

    decisions

    that

we ave to make rom tim

    time. It will

    soon be three

    years since we

    seen our families

    and

    friends back ho

    However, after

    much deliberation,

    pra

    and onsultation with our dministrators

    other

    trusted

    advisors,

    wehave et our mi

    to this

    course. We

ask you again " to be

    prayer f o r

    us

    as

    we

    xtend

    this

    term. A

    remember our

    families

    who have

    b

    contemplating

    our return in

    1984.

    As

we close the records on 1983, we

    making

    some

    minor chan ges

    our house. On

Also, I f inally got Boni

    This lass

They're neat. And ou know what lse

    Poppa

    He aid he

    was

    i r e d

    of me punching him. I

    don't

    kick soccer just as

    good

    as

    Jesse and

    I

    sometimes I don't try

    We hought

    I n

    summary,

    back

    to

    January

    and

    dentify a few high spots

    to

    get

    caught up .

    We

    had our

    annual

    meeting in

    Madang

    n

    January. The best

    part

    about the annual

    meeting

    was

    that

    my brother

    Dave and

    his

    family

    stayed

    with us, so we ot

    to v i s i t a

    o t

    with them during the

    meeting.

    Of ourse,we

also conducted some ery necessary business.

    One of

    PBT's board members, Geo

    C a r i l l e t , from the States,came ver to

    a

    the meeting. While he

    was

    here he l e d

    very meaningful

    marriage enrich

    seminar. We ook

    advantage

    of the few

    in Madang to

    do

    some

    repairs and cle

    work

    on

    the residence

    that

    PBT

    rec

    purchased.

Our ext move urned out to be

    one

    we

    not expected

    o

    e f o r e , we

    received information about a

    The

    Tom

    Betty

    Brewster,

    who reamong

    he

    top

    f i e l d in

    the

    We

    had

    dismisse

    p o s s i b i l i t y of going because we had tho

    that t

    would

    probably be

    at

    Also,

    we

    ooked

    into t

    So

    Wewak asa errific beach

    Jesse

    somehow keep up

    enough

    also deliver a

    I

    got going again

    after about four or five

    days.

    Later on n

    July, we

    eceived another guest

    from the States, leanor Daniel,a

    with the i e l d ,

    she also brought along

    some achievement

    e s t s

    to help us know how

    the boys are g e t t i n g along with

    Joshua

    We

    On he day Eleanor

    we

    are

    g r a t e f u l

    to Rondal's

    wife Jan for

    thinking

    of the

    kids

    over

    here

    and

    helping

    to

    get

    the whole thing organized.

    Karen

remained or a week fterRondaland Andria
