Story

Memory Verse

• You will need to look at Psalm 23 in the Bible.• Together choose a verse you really like.• Try to remember it together (reading it through a couple of times helps).• You could write or draw it out with pens and paper. Make 1 as a family or 1

each. Stick it somewhere where you can all see.• Make up silly voices to remember the verse [Melissa’s favourite is the robot] • Play rock paper scissors. The winner shows off their memory verse skills!

Prayer Idea

• You will need: a jug of water, a cup or glass, a tray or bowl.

• Fill the jug with water. Put the cup on the tray or in the bowl.

• Take it in turns to think of something you’re thankful for. As you say your thanks to God, pour some water in the cup. Younger children will need help pouring.

• Keep going until the cup overflows! Amen!

God guides us marble run

• You will need: a cardboard box, thin card (both could be cereal boxes), sticky tape, scissors and a marble.

• Make sure your base box has no holes/isn’t coming apart, use the sticky tape if you need to.

• Fold small pieces of thin card and plan out your journey for your marble. Remember to include some dead ends.

• Tape your pieces of card in place.

• Write S for Start and E for End.

• Link: God guides us.

• We can’t always see what’s around the corner, or what’s coming but God sees. The good shepherd leads us whatever is going on in our lives, he leads us to the good places, and through the dark places out to the other side. Just like the marble, even though the path is tricky God is with us and guides us.

• Pray with the marble: hold it tight in your hand. Thank God for being with you in the difficult times of life. Thank you God for guiding me.

Soft Soft Soft (idea for under 5’s)

• God as our shepherd can be a very comforting image. Talk to together about God guiding his sheep to comfortable restful places where he protects his sheep through hard times.

• So we’re going to try to find all the comforting things. You could either walk around your house and find the softest/most comfortable things or create a comfort collage.

• For the comfort collage you will need: paper, glue, things you’re happy for them to stick e.g. cotton wool, wool, bits of fluff, anything from a craft box. It doesn’t matter what it looks like in the end, it’s about making and thinking about the story together.
