While it’s fantastic to have more options for gaming on the go, I’ve found that most mobile games seem to be attempts at a quick money-grab, instead of a serious endeavor to create something enjoyable in the long-term. Because of this, I’ve downloaded many-a-gigabyte of these IOS and Android creations, only to be let down or bored in the end. Since mobile gaming has been a ‘thing,’ there have been only four games that I have stuck with: Ingress (my biggest addiction), Clash of Clans/Boom Beach (two games that I count as one because I play them both with the same clan/guild and they take up minimal time each day), Dragonball Z Dokkan Battle (speaks to the inner Anime fan in me), and Dice with Buddies (a bunch of my friends play, so we always have games going). And now, for the first time in over a year, I’ve added another game to that list: Heroes Tactics. I’ll be completely straight forward. I downloaded the game to give it a go. I logged in, created an account, and then didn’t touch it again. A few days later, maybe by fate, we had an e-mail in our PR account asking if we’d like to review the game for PSTP. sold on and will dig into laterndash and I already had it downloaded I felt that it would be odd of me not to

Let me say this itrsquos hard for a game to seamlessly mix PvP and PvE well Heroes Tactics has this concept

down As a mobile game you donrsquot actually face off against other players head-to-head but you have the

ability to set your ldquoDefensive Teamrdquo and then others can battle against your setup This is done automatically

in the gamersquos Arena and manually (against automatic opponents) in the Sky Arena Irsquom currently sitting at

146th place as I write this overall in the Arena and I have to admit it feels good to be in what I would

consider the ldquoTop Tierrdquo for a change Then again now I have to wonder how many hours Irsquove lost getting to

this pointhellip

On the other hand PvE is just as fun The game has a built-in Story Mode which while lacking an actual story

has you progress in battles against the computer getting progressively harder as you move on As of right

now there are two difficulties for all of the levels throughout the current eight tiers The first is called

ldquoWarrior Moderdquo This is the easier of the two but donrsquot be fooled Even at character level 61 I canrsquot seem to

get past level 8-3 Itrsquos extremely hard and I donrsquot forsee even two to three more levels making a difference

Hopefully Irsquoll make it at 65+

The second mode is called Legend mode In this mode the levels are the same but slightly harder than their

counterparts The catch is that you can earn character tokens in this mode Those tokens are used to unlock

more party members to add to your arsenal after yoursquove earned enough After yoursquove unlocked each

character you continue to want to earn tokens so that you may add to that characterrsquos Star Level (1-5) in

order to make them more powerful

You may also collect character tokens via the Arena and Sky Arena stores You earn currency for these stores

by competing in the aforementioned Arena and Sky Arena There are two other currencies in the game as

well Gold and Crystals Gold can be earned through Story Battles as well as the Sky Arena It can also be

purchased with an increasing amount of Crystals And here is where I get into the ldquoFree-to-Playrdquo aspect of the

game

As with all things free there is a catch The gamersquos Crystals are purchased with real world money As with

most Free-to-Play games you have some sort of renewable resource that tends to deplete faster as the game

progresses and require either a set amount of time to replenish or money spent to replenish it faster In

Heroes Tactics you can purchase mdash and in some cases earn mdash Crystals These are used to buy more gold or

more stamina Stamina is used up in the story mode and gold is used to purchase skill upgrades for your

character and various items in the games shops

There are three shops where you will end up spending a lot of the gold The General Store (which is unlocked

for everyone at a certain level) and the Camex Store and the Pirate Store both of which can be unlocked with

Crystals once yoursquove reached the correct VIP level (9 and 11 respectively) To earn VIP Levels you MUST

purchase Crystals with each purchase being worth a set amount of VIP XP

Therein lies my only real problem with the game I get that the developers deserve money In fact Irsquove

purchased Crystals myself since I enjoy the game I believe that they have earned some of my money Where

the problem lies though is in the concept of ldquoFree-to-Play but Pay-to-Winrdquo Those with a lot of money can

basically fly through levels character unlocks and skill upgrades by simply spending enough money Irsquove seen

this happen first hand in many games and in Heroes Tactics as well A good example is the fact that I was at

one point ranked somewhere near 100 in the arena rankings I was in that position almost a week One

morning I woke up and had dropped over 150 ranks Nearly an impossible feat except for the fact that it

means that a ton of people were buying their way to higher levels and ranks It was extremely apparent in the

fact that I was still able to move up and within a 24-48 hour period I became completely out-matched and

out-leveled

Now this being a mobile game and something casual for me Irsquom not ACTUALLY upset by this It is what it is

If someone was really attached to a game like this though I could see the problem being detrimental

The final area in the game which I have not hit on yet is the Wishing Pond area The Lily Pond gives you a

free Wish five times per day that has the chance of giving you a character token or even a full character

unlock or a random item from the game usually used to upgrade a character There is a secondary pond

called the Goldfish pond that is free once every 48 hours with a higher chance at better items And finally

the Dolphin Pond which I have yet to unlock and only opens at VIP level 11 Irsquom assuming the chance at this

one is even higher for a good item Any of these can be used more than the free allotment but require Gold

or Crystals (of course)

With all of that said Irsquom still really enjoying Heroes Tactics Itrsquos honestly one of the most fun and addicting

mobile games Irsquove played in a long while Where Clash of Clans and Boom Beach have become more of a

repetitive daily ritual taking 15-20 minutes per day max Heroes Tactics has drawn me in and seems to stay

fresh with the players ability to put together their own parties for battle Itrsquos been close to two months at this

point since I started playing and I donrsquot see myself stopping any time soon
