Flexible market response through mixed casting mode
PT. Gunung Garuda successfully produces beam blanks onnew four-strand caster supplied by SMS Concast.
SMS Concast, a subsidiary of the SMS group, had beenawarded the contract to supply a new four-strand beamblank caster as a replacement for an older caster at PT.

Gunung Garuda in Bekasi, Indonesia. The new beamblank caster today produces two section sizes (460 mmx 400 mm x110 mm and 300 mm x 250 mm x 90 mm) inSBQ quality at an increased capacity of 800,000 tonsper year.
In addition, the new beam blank caster is capable ofoperating in the mixed casting mode, casting twodifferent sections simultaneously. With the mixed modeit is also possible to cast only three instead of fourstrands (see picture). This allows PT. Gunung Garudato flexibly react to the market demand and strengthentheir competitive position.
The SMS group is a group of companies internationally active in plantconstruction and mechanical engineering for the steel and nonferrous metalsindustry. Its 14,000 employees generate sales of over EUR 3.3 bn.
