The commercial real estate industry is constantly changing, affecting all levels of employees as well as both large and small companies. Economic circumstances further enhance the industry’s volatility — and the Greater Phoenix and Metro Tucson marketplaces are not immune to those changes.

When we published the first edition of People To Know three years ago, AZRE Magazine brought its readers some of the most well-respected and knowledgeable experts in the industry. This year’s edition is no different.

It was quite a feat to track down some people who had moved on, com-panies that had left the area and new ones that were coming in, but we have done our best to bring you a useful and informative resource to further sup-port the local industry’s mission of building great communities throughout Arizona. From developers, general contractors and subcontractors to bro-kers, architects, city planners, the new “Up and Comers,” and more, you will find it all within these pages.

This year, nominees were evaluated by a selection committee using the following criteria: length of time in the community; accomplishments in the commercial real estate industry; and work in the community. From the indi-viduals in this publication, AZRE will select the top person in the industry in their respective category. The winners will be honored at a reception Nov. 10 at the Scottsdale Waterfront and will be profiled in the January/February 2012 issue of AZRE.

Let us know what you’d like to see, what other information we could include that would be useful, and any other comments you’d like to share with us to make this publication the best it can be.

5PEOPLE TO KNOW 2011-2012

THE SELECTION PROCESS OF

Selecting the honorees for the annual People to Know publication is never an easy task. This year alone, we received more than 500 nominations. Each nominee is evaluated by an internal selection committee and analyzed in several meetings before the final list of People to Know in Commercial Real Estate is determined. The names of those honorees are then sent to an

external selection committee. And this year, our selection committee was comprised of those who deal with the state's commercial real estate industry on a daily basis. > AZRE magazine editor Peter Madrid> Mark Covington, Executive Director, BOMA of Greater Phoenix> Tim Lawless, Chapter President, NAIOP Arizona> Tina Litteral, Hon. AIA, CAE, Executive Vice President, AIA Arizona These committee members were given the task of selecting just one Industry Leader in each category. The list of People to Know in Commercial Real Estate and Industry Leaders were announced Nov. 10, 2011, at the annual People to Know in Commercial Real Estate Awards Reception.

Thank you to our judges and all who applied.
