HILLS-BEAVER CREEK ELEMENTARY
News and Notes • Homecoming parade will take place today at 2:15 at main street in Hills • PTO inflatables will be free for elementary students and families following the parade • Inflatable location has been moved to the Hills City Park • Students will participate in a penny war to benefit Jackson Van Maanen next week • Fall pictures will take place on October 4 • Flu clinic will take place on October 17 • Big Soo Coupon Books are available from the PTO at the elementary office - $40 • For more information please check the school website at hbcpatriots.com
Student Council Members Elected To begin the year, students in grades 3-5 elected student leaders to participate in student council throughout the year. Members will help plan activities including homecoming, fall festival and I Love to Read Month. Members for 17-18 include:

Flu Clinic Permission forms and information concerning the H-BC flu clinic was sent home with students last week. The clinic will take place on Tuesday, October 17. Forms for students must be returned to school by October 7 in order to participate.
Fall Pictures Order forms for fall pictures were sent home last week. Picture day will be on Wednesday, October 4. Picture forms that are returned before that day will be collected by classroom teachers. A copy of the form has been attached to this newsletter.
Flag Football Date Change Reminder to students participating in community education flag football. The session scheduled for September 23 has been cancelled and will be made up at a later date. New dates for flag football are:
• Saturday, September 30 • Saturday, October 7 • Saturday, October 14

TeamJacksonPennyWarStudentsingradesK-5haveanopportunitytobeinvolvedinasmallfundraisertohelponeofourstudentsandhisfamily.OverthepastmonthJacksonVanMaanenhasbeeninandoutofthehospitalwithvariousmedicalproblems.Jacksonisathird-gradestudentinourschoolandwewouldliketodoourparttohelpsupporthimandhisfamilyinhisrecovery.Studentscanbringinsparechangetohelpraisemoneyforthecause.Classesplacepenniesintheirownjar,andpapermoneyandsilvercoinsintothejarsofotherclasses.Thisfuelsthecompetition.Penniescountpositivelytowardaclasstotal,silvercoinsandpapermoneycountagainsttheclass.Studentswillcollectmoneyfrom

8yearoldJacksonVanMaanenwasadmittedintothePICUatSanfordChildren’sHospitalonAug.13thwithpancreatitis.Avirushadattackedhispancreas,makinghimaverysickboy.Thepancreatitismadehimsepticanddehydratedandcausedhimtodeveloptwobloodclotsinvesselsinhisabdomen.AcoupleofdaysafterJacksonwasadmitted,heneededtobeintubatedandputonaventilator.OnAugust25th,Jacksonreceivedabloodtransfusion.Aweekafterthetransfusion,thedoctorswereabletoextubateJacksontobipap.Hewasintubatedforatotal16daysanddischargedfromthehospitalaftera31daystay.Threedaysafterbeingdischarged,Jacksonbecameveryillagainandemergencysurgerywasperformed.Thedoctorsperformedanothersurgery2dayslater.Jacksonhasbeenintubatedandputbackontheventilator.TrentonBass,senioratHills-BeaverCreek,sufferedasevereneckinjuryonFriday,Sept.8thduringahighschoolfootballgame.Trenton’sC-6vertebratewascompletelybroken,andhisC-5vertebraewasfractured.TrentonwasairliftedtoAverainSiouxFallswheresurgerywasperformed.Trentondoesnothaveanyfeelingfromthemiddleofhischestdown,andisworkingonregainingstrengthinhisarmsandhands.Hewillsoonbemovedtoarehabcenterwherehewillremainforanundeterminedamountoftime.Ifyouwouldbewillingtodonateanitemforthesilentauction,pleasecontactDerekBundesen,2ndAssistantFireChieffortheHillsFireDept.,at507-962-3140.Itemscanalsobemailedto510JosephineDr.,Hills,MN56138.WewouldliketoreceiveallitemsfortheauctionbyOctober9th.AnymonetarydonationshouldbemadeouttotheHillsFireDept.ReliefAssociation,andcanbemailedtothesameaddress.AllproceedsraisedfromthiseventwillgototheVanMaanenandBassfamiliestohelpwithmedicalexpenses.Thankyouforyoursupport!
