July 2018 President’s Message
Hello Quilters, I have several quilts that are pulling me to either start or finish, but I’m enjoying this beautiful weather so much that I’d rather be outside. Are you feeling the same way? Our July meeting will be an outdoor picnic, which will be very nice. Note: day/time changed to Tuesday, July 10 at 6:00pm
As we move into the 2nd half of the year, it is nomination time for our guild. I want to encourage you to consider taking a position on the board. The nominating committee will be visible at the next several meetings and would be happy to talk to you. Serving on the board of this wonderful guild is a fun and rewarding experience. Have a great June and see you all July 10.

COMMUNITY SERVICEQUILTAPALOOZA REVISITED!
Did you miss out on Quiltapalooza 2015, an all-day sewing event to work on CS quilts – sew tops, easy quilting, attach bindings? This year, we have two days: Wednesday, 05 September and Wednesday, 03 October, 9:00 – 5:00. Exact location to be announced however there will be plenty of parking and easy access. Come for the day or even an hour or two – whatever works for your schedule. We will have kits, fabric, patterns, quilts needing finishing, notions and other supplies, a few sewing machines, and ideas on easy, painless machine quilting. If you prefer, bring a quilt you are working on for CS to finish and/or your own sewing machine. To ensure space for everyone, a signup will be available at the July picnic or you may contact Marjorie, Nancy, or Pavana.
THE COMMUNITY WE SUPPORT – PLEASE NOTIFY US of other agencies or individuals.CHILDREN and FAMILIES served by CASA, CPS, and Domestic Violence. JUVENILE to TWIN size are needed.FIRE LOSS – community members who have lost their homes to fire or other causes. We need every size – baby to queen/king – for families.Graduating FOSTER YOUTH –Each year we provide up to ten TWIN size to help these students make their way as they graduate high school and leave the foster care system. In May we supported six Foster Youth and two students at Earle Jamieson High School graduated. The students received quilts, pillows, pillowcases, and tote bags – useful for carrying laundry, books, or groceries— to prepare them as they go out on their own.HOME BOUND SENIORS – Nevada County Adult Protective Services works to keep seniors at home and out of convalescent care. We try to give 10 LAP quilts each month.HOSPITALITY HOUSE – clients are enrolled in training programs and moving out into their own housing. We try to give 10 TWIN quilts each month. We have kits available or you may select fabrics from our stash that interest you; use your favorite pattern or select from our collection. Quilts are also ready for quilting and binding. Quilting a CS quilt is a great opportunity to hone your machine quilting skills and need not be fancy – stitch in the ditch, meander, or sew wavy lines top to bottom, side to side, corner to corner. Help is always needed to sort donations, make kits, prepare quilt tops and sandwiches, attach labels, sew up backs, and prepare quilts for the agencies to pick up. Anyone can participate – members and non-members – bring a friend! Come for an hour, half day, or all day. We meet 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., third Thursday of each month. Want to help but cannot attend CS Thursday or a Guild meeting? Contact Marjorie, Nancy, or Pavana, for other arrangements.
WE ARE LOCATED at The Nevada County Historical Society building, directly across from the CDF/Cal-Fire Department and next to Sierra Presbyterian Church. Take the Gold Flat exit, and go towards Ridge Road. At the stop sign, turn left. At the next stop sign, turn left again into the parking lot, then go to the back of the building.ALTERNATE DIRECTIONS, avoiding the crazy intersection. Exit the freeway at Brunswick and turn as if going to the Fowler Center/B&C/SaveMart. Stay on East Main Street (Old Nevada City Highway) through the stoplight, through the first stop sign. At the second stop sign (almost at the crazy intersection), turn right into the parking lot, go to the back of the building!
We look forward to seeing you, Marjorie, Nancy and Pavana (our contact information is in the Roster)

Mystery QuiltTime to start yet another mystery! I will have new clues for the next mystery at the September meeting. There is a one-time cost of $5.50 to play along. You choose your own fabrics and work at your own pace. Hope you join along! Speaking of mysteries, anyone that did the last mystery and wants to do a group showing, please bring it to the September meeting and we can all see your lovely works side by side.Unfinished tops are acceptable as its always fun to see how different they all look and I don't want to put any undo stress on anybody! See you in September!

Hello,
I have loved the last 15 years with all of you and Sugar Pine Quilt Shop but it is time for me to start on a new adventure. Our lease is up soon and for many reasons it is time to explore something new. Don't know what it will be but that is half the fun (I hope).Does this mean the shop will be closing? Yes it does. Our lease is expiring. Is there a fixed date? Not yet but in the next few months. Just wanted to let you all know before the rumor mill started to churn out rumors.
If you have a gift certificate hidden in your sewing room, now is the time to find it and come see us.
See you soon,Bonnie([email protected])
