Years later, Ihave yet to hear or read anything morespot-on than what he said. As someonewho has carefully studied and writtenabout our changing culture, and assomeone who understands Broadway,Dan is uniquely qualified to help usthink through these issues. Here is theschedule for the retreat:

A Successful
Upward Season
Congratulations,Broadway, on a suc-cessful Upward sea-son. The 2010 seasonproved to be the mostsuccessful Upwardseason to date.
Broadway staffedUpward with more
volunteers than ever before and wesaw more kids from Broadway on thebasketball court than in previous years.
Your commitment to Upward and itssuccess helped provide children andtheir families with a fun and safe placeto receive basic biblical teaching. Formany families, the warmth and comfortprovided by a church pew can be veryintimidating. However, the coolnessand rigidity offered by a gym bleacherwhile watching your child play basket-ball is much less intimidating, evenwithin the same wall of our church fel-lowship. It is in these very bleachers atBroadway that we as a community offaith are finding creative ways to teachthe word of God to the community inwhich we live, work and serve.

Finding Time for Families
A Saturday Retreat March 27 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
We need young families. These words are heard all too often when church members get together. OnMarch 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Louisville-area Kentucky Baptist Fel-
lowship (KBF) congregations will gather at Broadway to discuss how to reachand care for families with young children. This conversation will look at twospecific questions.
How do we reach out to families?
What do we do with them once they've entered our doors?
Retreat participants will gather in Friendship Hall for a large group discussion andthree break-out sessions all built around the above questions. If you have evermade or heard the statement, We need more young families at Broadway, thenthis retreat is for you. Reserve your spot by noon on Monday, March 22, by con-tacting the church office at 895-2459 or [email protected].

Automate Your PledgeFrom Brad Thomas,
Finance Committee Chair
During January, we collected$111,024 in tithes and offeringsagainst our budget of $105,750. Whata positive way to start the new year!
While February brought us somesnowy days and possibly caused peo-ple to miss church due to the weather, our church offers a great way to keepup your pledge if you miss a Sunday. You can have your weekly or monthlyoffering withdrawn directly from yourchecking account through an ACHtransfer. Its a safe and easy way toautomatically keep up to date withyour pledge. Several of our members
have been contributing by ACH forthe past couple of years. If you areinterested, please contact the financialsecretary and request your forms.
I had a member bring up a good pointwhile discussing the ACH program. Hehas small children and wants to set anexample by putting his envelope in theoffering plate during the worship ser-vice. He wanted to make sure his chil-dren realize how important it is to tithe. He was concerned that if he used the
ACH program, his children would notsee his familys offering envelope de-posited in the plate on Sunday.
If this is a concern for you, ask thechurch office to still send you offeringenvelopes. You can write ACH onthe outside of the empty envelope andplace it in the offering plate. Thatway, your children will still have atangible example of your giving.
Thanks to Broadway
For providing the space for ourChristmas Dinner. We had a won-derful time.
Residents and Staff of Choices
Dear Broadway Friends,
Charles and I wish to thank all ofyou for your kindness and thought-fulness during his recent surgery.Your phone calls, cards, notes andprayers have meant so very much toboth of us.
In Christs love,
Eleanor and Charles Buhl
Thanks to BroadwayWords are so inadequate in express-ing my appreciation for the divineprivilege of serving as a minister atBroadway for 21 years. In markingan end to this labor of love, my fam-ily and I so appreciate the specialactivity on Jan. 13 by Dr. Caldwell,
the staff and gathered church whoresponded with well-meaningthoughts in the form of a lite roastof sorts. These reflections will for-ever be held in sacred trust.
Then, the final tribute in the worshipservice on Sunday, Jan. 17, by Pas-tor and people, the gift of an en-graved silver tray and the choralbenediction by Mr. Weaver and theChancel Choir made us feel asthough the Lord did bless us every-one. We are grateful to the socialteam and the reception with the ex-pansive receiving line of well-wishers in the Atrium which willremain with us as moments to re-member for a lifetime. Thank youall for the memories we have as aresult of answering Gods call tocome to Broadway. The Lord gaveand the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.Selah.

We would love to have them! Also, please encourageyour children to invite friends to sing with us. We have agreat time and we don't want to keep this opportunity toourselves.

The Library's collection now includesthe book Earthen Vessels: HopefulReflections on the Work and Future of
Theological Schools, by Dr. DanielAleshire. Dr. Aleshire is the executivedirector of the Association of Theo-logical Schools in the United Statesand Canada. He will lead us in achurch-wide retreat this week.
In a review of this book, James P.Wind, president of the Alban Institute, talks about the upheaval among semi-naries and religious institutionsthroughout America. Wind reports that, for almost 20 years, Dan Aleshire has
been in the midst of this maelstrom.Wind says that in Earthen Vessels,Aleshire imparts his firsthand knowl-edge and wisdom and helps us see whywe still need these types of schools.Aleshire calmly points out upcomingchallenges and recommends positivesteps we can take to ensure that wehave effective pastors and religiousleaders in the future.
Bible Resources Offer DeeperUnderstanding
During Lent, as we journey through theNew Testament, there are sure to bethose times when we want to go deeper
in our understanding of a text. Thelibrary has several excellent commen-taries that give context and interpreta-tion. The Broadman Bible Commen-tary is a classic multi-volume set andThe New Interpreter's Study Bible pro-vides contemporary in-depth analysisand application. There are many excel-lent resources. Whether you are teach-ing or simply want to grow in under-standing, stop by to look up some pas-sages in the commentaries. They make
the Bible come alive.Book Club
