INDUSTRY APPLICATIONS

COMMERCIAL & RETAIL

8

In commercial environments, office blocks are becoming larger and taller with every new development. In the event of an emergency, this means more areas, and more people, to evacuate quickly and safely.

In multi-storey buildings, it’s vital to use voice alarm to control an evacuation in phases. Pre-recorded voice messages are used to direct people to use the safest exit route from where they are in the building. Zones or areas of the building can be manually selected for evacuation in a chosen order, to avoid congestion and potential panic if too many people try to exit at the same time.

In retail environments, voice alarm is the best way to provide shoppers with clear guidance on how to leave the building safely in the event of an emergency.

For retailers, combining their public address and voice alarms systems means that coded messages to staff can be broadcast alongside promotional announcements and music. In this way, staff can be alerted to a

potential security threat without alarming shoppers in the building.

“ASL’s VIPEDIA and V2000 products are second to none; feature rich, superbly engineered and yet simple to operate and maintain. I have been using and specifying ASL’s products since the early 2000’s, and it has been enjoyable to see ASL

grow into one of the market leaders in the public address and voice alarm industry.”- Jeff Marsh, PAVA Services“

RAILASL is established as a global leader in PAVA applications for rail. With successful installations at over 2000 stations to date, and products given special approval by national rail operators, our equipment can be relied upon to keep passengers safe, informed and protected at all times.

With more and more people using railways and underground metro systems to get around every day, the need for safety and control at stations becomes ever more important. Intelligent public address routing enables a consistent stream of announcements with minimal additional effort by staff. In the event of an emergency, voice alarm announcements direct passengers to evacuate the station calmly and by the safest route, keeping panic at bay.

We design our rail solutions with the needs of passengers and operators in mind. Our amplification products deliver top quality sound and intelligibility, adjusting continuously to changing levels of ambient noise. And our induction loop systems cater to the needs of those who are hard of hearing.

“[London Victoria] has been the third project I have worked with ASL on implementation of [the Vipedia-based PA system], all of which have been excellent successes.

Throughout the projects, the team of engineers and staff have been fully supportive or our sometimes very complex deliverables. We are proud to acknowledge ASL as one of our trusted suppliers.”

ASL has developed a set of rail solutions that will work seamlessly across many stations; from the local PAVA system with microphones, VIPEDIA-12 routing and V2000 D- series amplifiers, to the Long Line PA system (LLPA) that uses ASL’s VIPA software to connect multiple stations over IP, and to the Passenger Information Display System (PIDS). All of these can be managed centrally with ASL’s iVENCS control system.

Unlike many other railway PAVA systems, ASL’s station, LLPA and control system solutions have evolved together, ensuring perfect compatibility and a feature set tailored perfectly to the needs of modern railway systems.

“We have been working together for 14 years and I must say it’s been one of the most enjoyable working relationships of my career at Fone Alarm. The reliability of our rail PA systems and the outstanding service all

my staff receives from ASL’s support personnel is second to none. ASL is supplier of choice for the vast majority of our customers, and I believe this is a reflection on both the

product and the service they provide.”- John Hazell, Fone Alarm Installations Ltd

STADIA

11

Modern stadia can hold tens of thousands of people at one time. Safe and reliable public address and voice alarm systems are essential to ensure the safety of such large numbers of people in these spaces.

ASL’s VIPEDIA-12 routing matrix is designed for both large and small stadium systems. It performs at professional audio sound levels with supreme feedback. The VIPEDIA stadium solution ensures both quality and reliability in sound, with a +20dB audio output for ultimate sound quality, active line array dispersion, the capability to programme signal monitoring, delays, and 10-band parametric EQ into the signal path.

VIPEDIA-12

V2000

ROADS & TUNNELSPublic evacuation from road and rail tunnels can be a complex task considering the unusual acoustics of these spaces. ASL systems take this into account by providing a 100 -second delay for time alignment, together with fibre optic connectivity so equipment racks can be placed up to 1000 metres apart. The system is also consistently monitored, which is essential when the system is in less frequent use.

LSDDC SSINT

OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW OVERVIEW

18

The amplifier range consists of the M100 (delivering 100W), M200 (delivering 200W), and the M400 (delivering 400W). The amplifiers are housed in the V400 mainframe, and deliver power to a loudspeaker line even if the amplifier mainframe’s 230V mains supply is absent and the system is right down to a 21V battery supply voltage.

This unique design makes it unnecessary to ‘sleep’ the amplifiers during periods of inactivity, which improves efficiency and reduces heat dissipation.

The LSDDC is an amplifier interface card for use with the M100, M200 and M400 Class D amplifiers in the V400 amplifier mainframe.

Uniquely, it enables two circuits (A+B) to be fed from a single amplifier while still maintaining BS5839 Pt 8 compliance. The interface card provides amplifier health monitoring via a subsonic surveillance tone, automatic control of changeover to standby amplifier, loudspeaker line earth leakage monitoring, and loudspeaker line ‘End of Line’ (EOL) monitoring.

The SSINT is an amplifier interface card for use with ‘standby’ M100, M200 and M400 Class D Amplifiers in the V400 amplifier mainframe.

This interface card provides monitoring of a standby amplifier within a V400 mainframe.

In the event of a failure of an ‘active’ amplifier driven by a connected LSDDC interface, this unit will automatically switch to powering the affected zone from the standby amplifier.

iPAM

OVERVIEW

The iPAM400 Public Address Amplifier Mainframe is a 2U rack mount unit which combines amplification, routing, and Ethernet connectivity, together with loudspeaker line monitoring. The mainframes can be used as self-contained intelligent monitored PA systems, or as part of an IP networked system.

Two multifunction audio input and serial Input/Output (I/O) ports allow you to connect BMB01 Remote I/O Units to ASL paging microphones, or other audio sources. The BMB01 units in turn enable the connection of ASL Ambient Noise Sensors (ANS), and also provide flexible general purpose analogue and digital I/O. The ASL microphones can be configured for live speech paging and for DVA message broadcast locally at the host iPAM400, or anywhere else over the IP network. This means a microphone can broadcast at an adjacent unmanned station in the case of Long Line PA systems. Two extra audio inputs plus four audio outputs are provided by an optional XIO01 Audio I/O module. The optional Acapela Text-to-Speech module can be used in place of or as well as live speech and DVA message recordings if desired.

The iPAM400 can be remotely controlled using ASL MPS IP microphones, or by an ASL or other compatible third party PA workstation. A typical application of such a system would be at a Line Control Centre on a Long Line PA system. The iPAM400 connectivity, control, and monitoring functions also enable it to drive RS485 PIS displays, and to be used as a SCADA RTU to monitor and control third party equipment.

ASL’s Voice over IP (VoIP) and Digital Voice Announcement (DVA) solution, together with the optional Acapela Text-to-Speech module allows the use of both high and low bandwidth codecs or text-only IP interfacing, as appropriate to the network capacity and application.

Loudspeaker line monitoring is provided using either AC or DC line surveillance. The iPAM operates with dual power supplies, and either or both a 230V AC mains supply and a 24V DC supply.

The iPAM400 can be fitted with one or more MX-amplifier modules in any combination of up to: 4x100W, 2x200W, 1x400W, or 1x200W and 2x100W. Each amplifier feeds four outputs, of A, B, C, and D circuits.

The MPS01, MPS10, MPS20, MPS30, MPS40, and MPS50 are powerful and flexible paging microphones which can broadcast live, store-and-forward, and recorded messages into user selected zones, and also provide EN54-compliant emergency functions and all EN54 mandatory indicators and controls.

The MPS10/20/30/40/50 units each consist of a MPS01 sloping desk console with a flexible gooseneck paging microphone, graphic LCD display, and silent operation ‘Touch to Talk’ touch pad button, together with one or more additional MPX10 zone selection and control button modules. The number of additional buttons depends on the model, with the MPS10 having 10 extra Select buttons, and the MPS50 having 50.

PA zone selection is provided by the Select buttons or by using the rotary selector and graphic LCD display. There is also a VU bar-graph which displays the microphone signal level.

The MPS range can be connected directly to either one or two ASL audio routers using analogue audio and a serial link. There is also an RJ45 Ethernet IP interface with Power over Ethernet for connection to ASL IP PA/VA systems, and for use with VIPA enabled PC workstations. All interconnecting cabling and the microphone capsule are continuously monitored. As well as the main microphone gooseneck, there are 3.5mm jack plug connections for an auxiliary audio input, such as for background music, and for connection of a microphone headset. A general purpose local contact input and output enablesuse with PTT foot switches and external speak-now indicators.

The microphone, and all interconnect cables and the gooseneck microphone are replaceable to simplify maintenance. The MPS microphone range can be used freestanding on a desk as standard, or can be permanently mounted with the optional mounting bracket. This bracket gives options to mount the microphone flat on a wall, built onto consoles or fixed on desks.

The MPS can be purchased with a fist microphone replacement for the standard gooseneck if required. This is particularly useful if the microphone is console or wall mounted.

Inputs1 and 2 of the VIPEDIA-12 support All Call Hardware Bypass Operation. The operation of microphones on these inputs continues in an all-call-only mode in the event of VIPEDIA-12 processor failure or if there is a fault in the DBB connection between units. Hardware bypass operation is supported in DBB and AB system architectures and does not operate over Base-IP or ASL Secure Loop.
