WelcometoCommunityCollegePrepAcademy(CCPrep)!Wearepleasedtohaveyoujoinusandwewantyoutoknowthatweareexcitedtohaveyouhere.Makingthedecisiontoprepareyourselfforpost-secondaryeducationand/orentrylevelemploymentisamajorstep.WeareproudandpleasedthatyouchoseCCPreptoassistyouwiththiswork.TheBoardandstaffatCCPrepunderstand the importanceofa strongbridge to twenty firstcenturyskills.Sinceouropeningin2013,wehavelearnedalotourselvesaboutwhatittakestobuildsuchabridge.Weknowthatyouwillhavetolearnnewwaystolearn.Wehavealsolearnedwhatanimportanttooltheinternetisandwelookforwardtohelpingyoubecomeproficientinthe“new”literacyofthecomputer.WearedeeplycommittedtoyoursuccesshereatCCPrep.WeurgeyoutouseyourStudentHandbookasyourroadmapwhilehere;itisaninvaluableresourceandtoolinhelpingyoubecomefamiliarwiththeservicesavailabletoyouasastudentandtoshowyouwhatyourresponsibilitiesareasastudent.Asyouprepareforthe2019-2020academicyear,reviewthehandbooktoensureyouareknowledgeableaboutitscontents.Thehandbookisanimportantdocumentthatyoucanrelyontounderstandofferings,supportservices,policies,proceduresanddeadlines–allofwhichpaintafullpictureoftheCommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyPublicCharterSchoolandthewayswecanhelpyouachieveyoureducationalandcareerdevelopmentgoals.Weknowthatoursuccessfulcompletersarenotjustpreparingforasinglecareer.Itislikelythateachofyouwillhaveseveralcareersoveryourlifetimeandwithineachofthosecareers,youwillbechallengedtolearnnewskillsandadapttoachangingworld.AtCommunityCollegePrepwewantyoutosucceedasaparent,ascommunitymemberandasasuccessfulemployee.Wewillprovidethetechnology,theindividualsupport,intensiveworkshopsandLifeskillsseminarsthatwillmakeitpossibletoreachthesemultipleaims.ThankyouagainforchoosingCommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademy.Wearecommittedtoyoursuccess!

ThemissionoftheCommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyistoprovidetheeducationandskillsdevelopmentthatwillempowerandprepareunder-creditedadultsforpost-secondary

educationsuccess,viableemploymentandlifelonglearning.

VisionOurschoolwillbeaplacethatiswelcoming,supportive,nurturing,non-judgmental,and,mostofall,evidencesthebeliefthatitisnevertoolateforadultstotransformtheirlivesthrougheducation.CommunityCollegePrepwillbeaplacewherestudentsareactivelyinvolvedinpreparingforpost-secondaryeducationandworkforcetraining.Theadultstudentwillbeexposedtobehaviormodelingthatcanfacilitatethebehaviormodificationnecessaryfor

underachievingadultstotransformtheirlives.

Philosophy

TheCommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyrestsonthebeliefthatanexcitingandsupportivelearningenvironmentthatisresponsivetoallstudents’learningneedswillyieldhighperformanceoutcomes.Inaddition,tosupporttheuniquelearningstylesoftheadultlearner,instructionwillbeself-paced,real-worldexperiencefocused,inquiry-based;andwillintegrate

criticalthinking,reading,numeracy,andvocationalconceptsineachcontentarea.

InfoundingCCPrep,wearealignedwiththeDistrict’smandatetostrengthencareerandtechnicaleducationprogrammingavailabletoadultstudents(DCPS,2006).Guidedbythe

urgentneedtoincreaseliteracyandnumeracycompetenciesamongtheDistrict’shighschooldropouts,andthenumberofhighqualityvocationalandtechnicaleducationaloptions,ourschool’sapproachtolearningwillcenteronindividual,customizedsolutionsthatwillbeinnovative,engaging,stimulating,collaborative,experientialandperformance-based.

Foundedin2013,theCommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyPublicCharterSchoolisa501(c)(3)notforprofitcorporation.WhilelaunchedinWard8,theinitialintentwastoservestudentsinWards5,7and8.Theorganizationisheadedbyanindependentboardoftrustees,consistingof7votingmembers–fiveofwhomareresidentsoftheDistrictofColumbia,includingtwostudentrepresentatives.TheCommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyeducationprogramisguidedbyfiveprinciples:

1. HighExpectationsforStudentLearning:CCPrepfirmlybelievesthatadultlearnersbringarangeofknowledgeandexperiencetotheteachingandlearningenvironment.Wefullyintendtocapitalizeonpriorknowledgeandcurrenttechnologytoexpandthestudent’scapacitytolearnnewthingsandmasterthecurrenttechnicalmodalities.

2. HighExpectationsforStudentBehavior:Excellencethrivesinculturesofhighexpectationthatrequiredisciplinedbehaviorandthoughtfulinquiry.Themesofindividualpride,determinationandresiliencewillbethefocusoftheculture-buildingethos.

3. HighExpectationsforFacultyPerformance:Traditionaleducationhasnotservedmanyofourprospectivestudentswell.Facultywillbeselectedandtrainedtobuildonstudentstrengthsandserveaslearningfacilitatorsratherthanastraditionalclassroommanagers.

4. FrequentOpportunitiesforPostsecondaryPreparationandExposure:EverystudentwillbepreparedforsuccessfulcompletionoftheACCUPLACERexaminationatthefreshmanlevel.Specialattentionwillbegiventowritingskills,criticalthinkingandmathematicsinordertosupportcollegereadinesswhetherthestudentisconsideringvocationalorpostsecondaryacademicoutcomes.

5. FrequentOpportunitiesforNetworkingandSocialization:Short,intenseworkshops(3hours,onceaweek)aswellaslotsofopenforumlearningopportunitieswillbeprovidedtoallowstudentstoexplorenewideasinvaryingcontexts.

InkeepingwiththeCoreValuesofourschool,thefollowingareprinciplesthatallstudentsareexpectedtofollow:

Enrollment

Everyyear,studentsmustre-enrollinschooliftheyhavenotcompletedandcommencedtocollegeoremploymentregardlessofprioryearenrollmentandattendance.StudentsareencouragedtotakeadvantageoftheearlyenrollmentopportunityandsubmitresidencyverificationinformationinearlyJulytoensurethattheyhaveslotsreserved.Otherwise,studentsmaylosetheirslots.

Intheeventofinclementweatherorotheremergency,pleaserefertoChannel5(FOXNetwork),NewsChannel8,MainVoicemailandwebsiteforinformationregardingthescheduleforthatday.

AcademicCalendar2019–2020

InitsInauguralyearandeveryyearafter,basedupontheavailableslotsand/orthewaitinglistforslots,monthlyOrientationsessionswillbeheld.Duringthesesessions,youwillcompleteyourassessments;workwiththeStudentSuccessSpecialiststocompleteandsignoffonyoureducationplan;andbeginyourintroductiontoon-linelearning.Theseseven-daylongsessionsareanopportunityforyoutoconfirmthathereisa“fit”betweenyourneedsandambitionsandtheprogramsandservicesoftheSchool.Youwillnotethatgenerally,ouracademiccalendarlinesupwiththeDCPublicSchools.Thisalignmentisdoneprimarilytosupportparentsbycoordinatingourschoolclosingdateswithpublicholidaysandstaffdevelopmentdays.Whatfollowsarekeydatestoassistyouinplanning:

TheCommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyprogramdesignincludesthreestrandsoflearningactivitiesforyou:

Foundationalliteracyandnumeracyskillswillbere-enforcedthroughtheuseofstateoftheartcloud-basedtechnology.Youwillnotonlyaccelerateyourlearninginthecoreskillsofreadingandmathematicsbutyouwillalsolearnhowtolearnon-line.YouwillalsobeabletoprepareforthenewGEDandtheACCUPLACERcollegeplacementexam(bothofwhichwillbeofferedon-line).

• WritingandMathWorkshopswillbeprovideddailytosupportyouindevelopingthekindofcriticalthinkingandproblem-solvingskillsthataresoimportanttothe21stCenturyworkplace.

• LifeSkillsSeminarswillbeofferedquarterlytoprepareyoufortheworldofworkandforproblemsolvingintherealworldasaparent,acommunitymemberandanemployee.

• AllofourstudentswillbeencouragedtocompleteMICROSOFTOfficeSuiteandNationalCustomerServicetrainingtoensurethatyouhavetheessentialskillsrequiredintoday’sworkplacewhateveryourfieldofinterest.AtCommunityCollegePrepweappreciatethecomplexsituationsoftenfacedbyourstudents.Weofferavarietyofclassschedulestoensureyoucanmeetyourworkandfamilyresponsibilities.Choosefrommorning,afternoonoreveningclasses.

CommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyisayear-roundschooldividedintofoursemesterswiththefirstsemesterbeginninginSeptemberandendinginNovember.ThesecondsemesterbeginsinNovemberandendsinmid-January.ThethirdsemesterbeginsFebruaryandendsearly-May.ThefourthsemesterbeginsinJuneandendsinAugust.

EnglishLanguageLearnerStudentIdentificationPolicy

InordertocomplywithstateandfederalguidelinestoprovideequalopportunityforEnglishlanguagelearnersCCPrepwill:•IdentifylimitedEnglishProficientstudents•AssesstheirlevelofEnglishLanguageproficiency•ProvideappropriateinstructionalsupportservicesforstudentsidentifiedaslimitedEnglishProficiency.•Monitortheiracademicgrowththroughtheuseofperiodicevaluationsandteacherinput.OnceELLsareidentified,CCPrepwillprovideongoingsupporttoourstudents.Weplantoofferacontent-basedESLinstructionalprogram.UsinganintensiveEnglishprogram,theacademiccontentareasofEnglishlanguagearts,GEDpreparation,ACCUPLACERreadinessandmathematicsareusedasthevehicleforEnglishlanguagelearning.ThisensuresthatELLshaveaccesstothesameacademiccontentandperformancestandardsasnon-ELLs.AllinstructionisgiveninEnglish,withspecificallydesignedmethodologybyanESLteacher.TheESLteacherwillworkdirectlywiththatstudenttolessenlinguisticbarrierstocontentandtoensureaccessandimproveESLs’comprehension.Throughaprocessoffullinclusioninthemainstreamacademicactivities,EnglishlanguagelearnersatCCPrepareheldtothesamerigorousstandardsasallstudents.Wherenecessary,theESLteachermayalsoprovidedirect,one-on-onelanguageinstructionduringremediationtime,asopposedtoduringgeneralinstructiontime.Thedirectinstructionthatstudentsreceiveisbaseduponstudents’masteryofacademiccontentattheirassessedproficiencylevel.TheESLteacherandtheclassroomteacherwillassessstudents’masteryandlanguageneedsbasedonbothformalandinformalassessments.Formoreinformation,ortodirectquestionsregardingESLservicesofferedattheCommunityCollegePrepAcademy,pleasecontacttheschoolofficeat202.610.5780.

SpecialEducationServices

CommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyhasbeendesignedtoprovideavarietyofservicesforadultstudentswithspecialneeds.TheOfficeoftheStateSuperintendentofEducationfortheDistrictofColumbiahasprovidedaroadmapforserviceprovisionforyoungadultsintransitionandtheseguidelineswillbeusedtosupportstudentswithspecialneeds.Additionally,CCPrephasestablishedaHumanCareAgreementwiththeOfficeofRehabilitationServicesinordertofurthersupportsuchneedsastheyarise.

Section504&504Plans

Section504isafederalstatutedesignedtoeliminatediscriminationonthebasisofadisabilityinanyprogramoractivityreceivingfederalfinancialassistance.InaccordancewithSection504,aqualifiedstudentwithaphysicalormentalimpairmentthatsubstantiallylimitsoneormoremajorlifeactivitiesshallnot,onthebasisofthatdisability,beexcludedfromparticipationin,bedeniedthebenefitsof,orbesubjecttodiscriminationinanyprogramoractivityofferedbyCCPrep.QualifyingastudentunderSection504ismadeonacase-on-casebasis.Localscreeningcommitteesrevieweachstudent’sindividualprofiletodeterminewhetherthereisaphysicalormentalimpairmentthatsubstantiallylimitsamajorlifeactivity.Thecommitteeconsidersthenatureandseverityoftheimpairment,itsdurationorexpecteddurationandtheimpactoftheimpairmentonthestudent’sopportunitytoaccessandbenefitfromprogramsandactivitiesofferedbyCCPrep.IfastudentisdeterminedeligibleforservicesunderSection504,aplanwillbedevelopedinconjunctionwiththeDCOfficeofRehabilitationServicesthatspecifiestheadaptation,accommodationsandmodificationsthatastudentmayneedtoparticipateinprogramsandactivitiesofferedbyCCPrep.Often,thestudentandschoolstaffmemberscanagreeInformallytosupportsthatwillbeprovidedtothestudent.However,awrittenplandocumentingthepointsagreeduponmaybeusefulwhentheschooloreducationalsettingwillchange,whenthestudentiscommencingtothenextlevelofeducationandwillneedaccommodations(anddocumentationofpreviousaccommodations)intheworkplaceoratcollege,orwhenthecommitteemembersfeelitmaybenecessarytoreferbacktothedocumentationofthemeeting.

EmergencyClosings

ItisthepracticeofCCPreptoholdallregularclassesonalldaysscheduledonthecalendar.Shouldanemergencyarisethatrequiresthecancellationofclassesandactivities,ourlocalradioandtelevisionstationswillbenotified.Wewillalsopostnotificationsonourwebsitewhenpossible.

Inaccordancewithlocallaws,smokingisnotpermittedinthebuildingortheimmediatearea.

SchoolCulture

AtCommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademy,wearedeeplycommittedtoyoursuccess.WehavestructuredourstaffingtoensurethateverystudentisabletohavetimewithaStudentSuccessSpecialist,whosejobitistoassistyouindevelopingyourIndividualEducationPlanandsettinggoalsforbothpost-secondaryeducationandyourcareer.YourStudentSuccessSpecialistwillalsobeavailabletosupportyouthroughoutyourtimehereatCCPrep.Theywillprovidecounselingandreferralaswellassupportforproblemsolvingaroundanybarriersthatyouhavetosuccessfulcompletionofyourcourseofstudy.CommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyisaplaceforyoutodeveloptheskillsandknowledgethatyouneedtobesuccessfulasanentrylevelemployee.Wewanttocreateacultureofsupportandacceptance.Weallhaveastakeinyoursuccessandwillworkwithyoutoun-learnbadorinappropriatehabitsthatcouldgetinthewayofyourfuturesuccess.Weareaplacewhereyoucanpracticenewhabitsandbehaviorsthataredesignedtoassistyouinsucceeding.Wesincerelyhavehighexpectationsofyouandwantyoutoknowthatweareheretoensureyoursuccessandtoassistinanywaypossibletoaddressthechallengesthatgetinyourway.Togetherwecanbuildacultureofhighexpectationsandmutualrespectthatbringsoutthebestineveryone.Wefullyexpectthatstudentswillinturn,respecteachotherandtheirinstructorsandstaff.Bydevelopingacultureofmutualrespect,wecanensurethatnoonefeelsalienatedorleftout.Pleasehelpustobuildthatculturebymakingapersonalcommitmenttothekindoflanguage,interactions,andphysicalenvironmentthatwecanallbeproudof.

DressingforSuccess

Dress,groomingandpersonalcleanlinessstandardscontributetothemoraleandareacentralpartoftheimagethatyouwanttopresenttoyourfellowcolleaguesandtheworldatlarge.DuringthehoursthatyouareparticipatinghereatCCPrepwedon’texpectthatyouwill“dressup”,however,itisextremelyimportantthatyouappeartocomereadytowork.Lowslungjeans,mini-skirts,shortsandrecreationorpartywearisnotacceptableattire.

Weapons,DrugsandAlcohol

Students’use,possession,distributionandsaleofdrugsoralcoholisstrictlyprohibitedonschoolpropertyoratanyschoolsanctionedactivitiesoccurringoff-site.Distributionorsaleofdrugsoralcoholortheintenttodosomaywarrantanimmediateexpulsionandpossiblereportingtoauthorities.Allweaponsincluding,butnotlimitedto,guns,knives,explosives,arestrictlyprohibitedattheSchool.ViolationswillleadtoDCMetropolitanPoliceDepartmentinvolvementandmaybegroundsforimmediateexpulsion.Itemsthatappeartobeweaponsarebannedaswell.Theseactswillresultinanautomaticrecommendationforexpulsion,whichisanindefinitedismissalfromCCPrep.ThispolicyisalignedwiththerequirementofthefederalGun-FreeSchoolsActof1994,whichappliestopublicschools,andstatesthatastudentwhoisdeterminedtohavebroughtaweapontoschoolmustbedismissedfromtheschoolforatleastonecalendaryear.

Attendance

Toestablishandmaintainaproductivelearningenvironmentitisessentialthatstudentsandstaffarriveontimeandpreparedfortheworkoftheday.AtCCPrepweexpectstudentstobereliableandpunctual.Youareexpectedtoattendfivedaysaweekandbeontime.Shouldyouhavealegitimateillnessoremergency,itisexpectedthatyouwillcontactyourStudentSuccessSpecialistwithinthesamedaythatyouareabsent.Ifastudentisgoingtobeabsentforanyreason,theirStudentSuccessSpecialistshouldbenotifiedinadvance.Pleasebemindfulthatamonthlycumulativeattendanceoflessthan70%isgroundstoinitiatethedismissalprocess.

ExcusedAbsence

Asanadultcharterschoolwedonotfollowthek-12excusedabsencepolicy,wehaveimplementedaleaveofabsencepolicywhichcoversastudentwhoneedstobeexcusedduetoillness,employment,illnessofchild,appointmentonbehalfofchildorattendingtoaresourceappointment.ThestudentmustinformtheirStudentSuccessSpecialistinadvance.InorderforanabsenceoftheabovenaturetobeconsideredstudentmustprovideacceptabledocumentationtotheirStudentSuccessSpecialist.

ResidencyStatus

CommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyisapublicCharterSchoolandassuchisfullyfundedbythepublicdollarfundingstream.Therefore,wearerequiredtoensurethatthesefundsareusedtoprovideeducationandtrainingtolegalresidentsoftheDistrictofColumbia.AllapplicantswillberequiredtoshowproofofresidencyasiscurrentlyrequiredforallK-12.

WhatistheFamilyEducationRightsandPrivacyAct(FERPA)?

TheFamilyEducationalRightsandPrivacyAct(FERPA)affordparentsandstudentsover18yearsofage(“eligiblestudents”)certainrightswithrespecttothestudent’seducationrecords.Theserightsare:(1)Therighttoinspectandreviewthestudent’seducationrecordswithin45daysofthedayCCPrepreceivesarequestforaccess.EligiblestudentsshouldsubmittotheHeadofschoolawrittenrequestthatidentifiestherecord(s)theywishtoinspect.TheHeadofSchoolorotherappropriateschoolofficialwillmakearrangementsforaccessandnotifytheparentoreligiblestudentofthetimeandplacewheretherecordsmaybeinspected.(2)Therighttorequesttheamendmentofthestudent’seducationrecordsthattheeligiblestudentbelievesareinaccurate.EligiblestudentsmayaskCCPreptoamendarecordthattheybelieveisinaccurate.TheyshouldwritetheHeadofSchool;clearlyidentifythepartoftherecordtheywantchangedandspecifywhyitisinaccurate.IfCCPrepdecidesnottoamendtherecordasrequestedbytheeligiblestudent,theschoolwillnotifytheeligiblestudentofthedecisionandadvisethemoftheirrighttoahearingregardingtherequestforamendment.Additionalinformationregardingthehearingprocedureswillbeprovidedtotheeligiblestudentwhennotifiedoftherighttoahearing.(3)Therighttoconsenttodisclosuresofpersonallyidentifiableinformationcontainedinthestudent’seducationrecords,excepttotheextentthatFERPAauthorizesdisclosurewithoutconsent.4)Therighttowithholddirectoryinformation.Atitsdiscretion,CCPrepmayprovide“directoryinformation“withouttheconsentoftheeligiblestudentsinaccordancewiththeprovisionsoftheAct.Directoryinformationincludes:A.StudentNameB.AddressC.TelephoneListingD.HonorsandAwardsReceived

CommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademyPublicCharterSchool(CC-Prep)isaplacewhereallstudentshavetherighttocomeandlearn.Toallowallstudentstolearn,allstudentsmustberespectfulofthediversecommunity.CC-PrepstudentsareexpectedtoadoptsharedvaluesoftheSchoolcommunity.CC-Prepstudentsarelifelonglearnerswhoarecaring,productive,confidentandcivicminded.Theymustbeconscientiousoftheimplicationsoftheirdecisionsandshoulddemonstrateempathy,compassion,andrespecttowardsothersandthemselves.

StudentBehaviorExpectations

Respectiscriticalinourdiversecommunity.Studentsmustdemonstraterespectthroughtheirappropriateactions,words,toneandbodylanguage.Unacceptablebehaviorincludesanybehaviorthatinfringesonanotherstudent’srighttolearn.Thesebehaviorsinclude,butarenotlimitedto,offensivelanguageandgestures,disrespectingastafforfacultymember,damagetoschoolproperty,improperuseofschoolequipment,theft,sexualharassment,makingthreatsagainstothers,harmingothers,andfightingorcommittingassaults.Behaviorthatposesathreattothehealthandsafetyofothersmaybegroundsforimmediateexpulsion.

CodeofConduct

Whenastudent’sbehaviorisdeemedtobeaseriousviolationorinfractionanincidentreportwillbesubmittedtotheDirectorofOperations,AcademicAffairsorStudentSupport.TheDirectorofOperations,AcademicAffairsorStudentSupportwillmeetwiththestudent,hearthestudent’sperspectiveontheincident,andthenaswarrantedengageinavarietyofappropriateinterventionsthatarecommensuratewiththenatureoftheinfraction.Theseinterventionscanrangeinavarietyofmeasuresincludingaverbalorwrittenwarning,mandatoryconsultationswithacounselorand/orfollowupconferenceswithaschoolofficial(ordesignatedstaff).Violationsrelatingtothesaleordistributionofdrugs,weaponsorotherseriousviolationsthatthreatenthehealthandsafetyoftheschoolcommunitymayresultinasuspensionoranexpulsion.

TheDisciplineReviewProcessPolicymayincludethefollowing:

1. Writtennoticeofthechargesbasedontheschool’sinvestigation;2. Ifthechargesaredenied,astudentmustbegivenanopportunitytoexplaintheir

versionoftheeventstotheHeadofSchool;3. Thesuspensionmayrangefrom1to10daysinlength;4. Expulsionshallbefortheremainderoftheschoolyear.Inextremecases,expulsionmay

beindefinite;5. Anydecisionrenderedmustbebasedupontheschool’sinvestigation.6. Withrespecttoanysuspensioninvoked,thestudentwillbeinformedofitsbeginning

ComplaintResolutionProcess

CC-Prepencouragesallstudentstobringcomplaints,concernsorgrievancestotheattentionofappropriateCC-Prepofficials.Agrievanceexistswhenastudentclaimsthataviolation,misapplication,ormisinterpretationofaCC-Preppolicy,procedure,orpracticehasoccurred.Itmayalsoexistwhenthereareclaimsofracialorsexualharassment;ordiscriminationonthegroundsofdisability,race,religiousbelief,politicalviewpoint,sex,maritalstatus,orsexualorientation.Duringtheprocessofagrievance,allprocedures,names,andrelatedinformationwillbeconfidentialunlessotherwiseagreeduponbyallpersonsinvolved.Astudentwhowishestofileagrievanceshouldfirstattempttoinformallyresolvetheissueatitssource;withthepersonwhomheorshebelieveshasviolated,misapplied,ormisinterpretedthepolicyorprocedure.Ifthestudentdoesnotbelievethatheorsheiscapableofresolvingthematterinthisway,heorsheisencouragedtomeetanddiscusstheincidentwiththeappropriatesupervisor/administrator/official.Ifthestudentoremployeeisnotsatisfiedwiththeresultoftheinformalprocess,thestudentmaypursuethematterbysubmitting,inwriting,totheDirectorofOperations,AcademicAffairsorStudentSupport,adetailedaccountofthegrievancecommittedandthereasonforwhichthegrievancecouldnotberesolvedinformally.TheDirectorofOperations,AcademicAffairsorStudentSupportwillmakethefinaldecisionregardingthegrievance.StudentswhowishtoappealthedecisionoftheDirectorofOperations,AcademicAffairsorStudentSupportwillhavetherighttoappealtotheHeadofSchoolwhowillmakethefinaljudgmentregardingthegrievanceandappeal.AgrievanceagainsttheHeadofSchoolshallbesubmittedinwritingtotheChairoftheBoardofTrustees.TheBoardinturnwillreferittotheExecutiveCommitteeforreviewandfinaldisposition.BelowyouwillfindalistingofallBoardMembernamesandtitles.IfyouwishtocontacttheBoardofTrusteespleaseemailthefollowing:[email protected]

Wearecommittedtoyoursafetyandsecurityandeveryefforthasbeenmadetoensurethatyourfacilitymeetsallrequirementsforsafetyandsecurity.Itisimportantthatyouparticipateinyourownsafetybyfollowingthefollowingrulesregardingfiresafetyandevacuation:

SocialMediaPolicy

TheInternetisavailableforstudentsinCCPrep.ThestaffandleadershipstronglybelieveintheeducationalvalueoftheInternetandseethepotentialoftheInternettosupportcurriculum,studentlearninganditseducationalmission.UseoftheInternetiscoretotheeducationalprogram;however,itisforeducationalpurposesonly,notasapublicaccessservice,apublicforum,forcommercialuseorforpoliticallobbying.Internetaccessforstudentsisprovidedtopromoteeducationalexcellencebyfacilitatingresourcesharing,innovationandcommunication.CCPreprealizesthatwhiletheInternetcanprovidemanyopportunitiesofsoundeducationalvalue,theInternetalsoofferspersonswithillegalorunethicalpurposesanotherwaytoreachstudents,teachersandothers.CCPrephastakenandwillcontinuetotake,allreasonableprecautionstorestrictaccesstoinappropriatematerialthatmaynotbeconsideredofeducationalvalueinthecontextofaschoolsetting.CCPrepenforcesanInternetsafetypolicythatincludesmeasurestoblockorfilterInternetaccessforbothminorsandadultstocertainvisualdepictions.Thistechnologyprotectionmeasurepreventsaccesstovisualdepictionsthatare(1)obscene,(2)childpornography,or(3)harmfultominors.However,CCPrepalsorealizesthataccesstoaglobalnetworkmakesitnearlyimpossibletocontrolallmaterialsandausermaydiscoverinappropriateinformationwhenaccessingsuchanetwork.WebelievethattheadvantageofobtainingmaterialsfromtheInternetoutweighsthepossibilitythatusersmayobtainmaterialthatisnotconsistentwiththeeducationalgoalsofourschool.StudentsatCCPrepwillhaveaccesstotheInternet,includingWorldWideWebresources.Electronicmailandaccesstonewsgroupswillbeavailableonalimitedbasis.Alloftheseservicesareavailabletostudentsonlyunderthedirectsupervisionofaschoolstaffmember.Studentsareresponsibleforappropriatebehavioroncomputernetworks.TheuseoftheCCPrepnetworkisaprivilege,notarightandmayberevokedifabused.Studentsareadvisednevertoaccess,keeporsendanythingthattheywouldnotwanttheirinstructorstosee.Thefollowingactions(whicharenotinclusive)constituteunacceptableuseoftheCCPreptechnologyfacilities,whetherthatuseisinitiatedfromschooloranyothersite:

• Revealingpersonalinformationaboutthemselvesontheinternet,includingname,address,telephonenumberanduploadingphotographs.

• Personally,meetinganyonewithwhomtheyhaveonlyhadpriorcontactwithontheinternet.

• Usingprofane,vulgar,orabusivelanguage.• StudentsareprohibitedfromusingtheCCPrepcomputernetworktotransmit

fraudulent,harassing,obscene,orotherwiseinappropriateemailmessages.• AllcontentsofallfileslocatedoncomputerequipmentownedormaintainedbyCC

• Studentsareprohibitedfromaccessingsocialnetworkingsites,• Studentsshallnotdownloadorspreadcomputervirusesonschoolnetwork

• StudentsshallnotusetheCCPrepcomputernetworktoengageinanyillegalorcriminalacts,including,butnotlimitedto,criminalgangactivity,threateningthephysicalsafetyofanotherperson,orcomputerhacking.

• StudentsshallnotinstallorrunanytypeofsoftwareonaCCPrepnetworkcomputerwithouttheconsentofthetechnologystaff.

• Studentsmaynotusenetworkcomputersforpersonalfinancialgainbypostingmessagesthatadvertisethestudent’sownpersonalbusinessoranybusinessorventureinwhichthestudenthasafinancialinterest.

• Studentsshallnotread,modify,orremovefilesownedbyotherstudents.• Studentsareprohibitedfromsharingtheirpasswordorloginidentificationwithany

otherpersonexceptasneededbystaff.• Studentsareprohibitedfromloggingintothenetworkbyusingaccountinformation

belongingtoanotherstudent,teacher,ornetworkadministrator.• Ifastudentdiscoversorhasreasontobelievethatanotherstudenthasobtained

unauthorizedaccessofhis/heraccount,thestudentshallcontactsomeinstructororotherschoolpersonnel,aswellasimmediatelychangehis/herpassword.

• StudentsareprohibitedfrommodifyingorrearrangingtechnologyequipmentbelongingtoCCPrep,includingkeyboards,monitor,printersandcomputers.

• Studentsshallreportanycasesofmalfunctioningequipmentorothernetworkissuestoateacher,orotherschoolpersonnel.Theteacherorotherschoolpersonnelshallcontactanetworkadministrator.

• Whenusingpublicworkstations,studentsshalllogoffofthenetworkbeforeleavingtheworkstation.Studentsshallfurtherensurethattheworkstationisinsuitableconditionforthenextstudent.

• Whenusingprivateorindividualworkstations,studentsshalllocktheircomputerorlogoffofthenetworkiftheywillbeawayfromtheworkstationforanextendedperiodoftime.ANYofthefollowingconsequencesmaybeimposed:

• Lossofnetworkuseforadeterminedperiodoftime;• Individualaccessprivilegeswillberevoked;

Telephonesareacentralpartofourcultureandmanyofusareuncomfortablewithoutthem;however,theyareconsideredadistractiontotheeducationalprocessunlesstheyarebeingutilizedasaplatformforalesson.Therefore,itisexpectedthatcellsphoneswillbeturnedoffduringclass,labandseminartime.

Academic/CareerAdvising

Thereareseveralwaysthatweintendtosupportyoursuccessandoneofthecentralwaysisthroughregularadvisement.YouwillbeexpectedtoscheduleregularsessionswithyourStudentSuccessSpecialist(everytwoweeks).Additionally,aCaseManagerwillbeonstafftofollowupwithanybarrierstoattendancethatmaygetinyourwaylikejobhuntingorchildcare.AcademicandCareeradvisementwillbecentralpartsofyourconversationswithyourStudentSuccessSpecialist.Inadditiontoyourcounselingsupport,quarterlyLifeSkillsSeminarswillbeheldasscheduled.TheseSeminarswillbedesignedtointroduceyoutocollegiatelifeandtheworldofwork.Emphasiswillbeplacedonimprovingyourproblem-solvingskillsinsupportofyoursuccessfultransitiontoworkand/orPost-Secondaryeducation.Inadditiontoseminarswithguestsfromtheworldofworkandcollegiatelife,youwillhavetheopportunitytotakeadvantageofanumberoftransitionservices.

IndividualLearningPlans

EverystudentattheCommunityCollegePreparatoryAcademywillbeexpectedtocompleteaLearningPlanwiththeStudentSuccessSpecialistasapartofyourorientationprocess.TheLearningPlanwillbebaseduponyourTABEscoresinReadingandMathematics,yourwritingassessmentandyourassessmentofon-lineskills.Inadditiontotheacademicandtechnologyassessmentsyouwillbeexpectedtocompleteatleastoneoccupationalpreferenceassessment.TheseassessmentswillbecompletedduringtheorientationperiodandwillallowyoutobetterunderstandyouracademicandcareerreadinesssothattogetherwithyourSpecialist,youwillsetperformancegoalsforyourfirstsemesteranddeterminewhatyourprimarygoalis-eithercollegeentryorentrylevelemployment.YoumaydeterminethatyouhavebothasagoalandtogetherwithyourSpecialistyouwillmakedecisionsaboutwhichclasseswillbestmeetyourrequirementsinthefirstsemester.Youmayalsochoosetousethesix-weeksummersessionasanopportunitytofillanygaps.
