Weekend Subway Closures

• Crosstown Project Agreements requires CTS to make improvements at Eglinton subway station

• TTC has approved 24 closures in 2018 for this work

– Subway will close 2am Saturday mornings and re-open Monday mornings at 5am – Closures necessary because CTS must work on and/or needs access to the

subway tracks and Berwick portal – Work will occur 24 hours a day during the designated weekend closures

• 2018 closures provide benefits to TTC: – Construction of new subway service building – Upgrades/improvements to the subway station

• TTC & CTS coordination to limit overall number of Line 1 closures in 2018: – During 9 of the 24 closures, TTC will undertake states of Good Repair work – 15 out of the 24 Closures will be strictly from St Clair to Lawrence

• Materials and equipment will be delivered on the subway tracks via the

Berwick portal, necessitating the subway closures.

• Additional benefits to TTC/transit users associated with Crosstown construction: – Extension of the subway platform by 25 metres – Upgrading pedestrian tunnels that connect directly to current and future – development

Description of Construction • Work will occur day and night on each planned subway closure weekend.

• Three basic phases of work planned: micro-piling, pre-cast installation, and material supply and removal work

• Micro-piling phase

– Involves the installation of smaller diameter piles within the TTC subway corridor

– Two micro-pile drill rigs, a mobile crane, and a concrete pump will be used continuously while concrete and steel deliveries will be intermittent. A hydrovac may be required occasionally depending on site conditions.

• Pre-cast Installation

– Involves the delivery and installation of pre-fabricated concrete components

– A mobile crane and various hand tools will be used regularly with intermittent delivery of pre-cast and concrete grout

• Material Supply and Removal

– Parts of Eglinton Station will need to be demolished and re-built. Berwick Portal will be used as the access point for nighttime work within the station

– Construction equipment could involve concrete trucks, mobile cranes, and bin trucks
