PREFACE

CBSE always believes in Global Trends of Educational Transformation. The CBSE

curriculum gets its lead from National Curriculum Framework – 2005 and Right to Free and

Compulsory Education Act – 2009. The aim of CBSE Curriculum is not just to let learners

obtain basic knowledge but to make them life-long learners. CBSE always updates and

reviews the syllabus to make it more relevant with educational transformation and in last few

years the chapters and topics which CBSE has added are very interesting and increase

practical knowledge.

Oswaal Question Banks are designed to nurture individuality and thus enhance one's

innate potentials which helps in increasing the self-study mode for students. This book

strengthens knowledge and attitude related to subject. It is designed in such a way that students

can set their own goals and can improve their problem solving and thinking skills.

The journey of this book is never ending as this book is reviewed every year and

new questions, previous year's examination questions, new HOTS or any change in

syllabus is updated time to time. Also regular review and readers’ feedback increases the

efficiency of this book gradually.

Moreover every Question Bank strictly follows the latest syllabus and pattern, and

contains more than sufficient questions and brief description of chapters, which help students in

practicing and completing the syllabus. Questions incorporated in this Question Bank

encompass all the ‘Typologies’ mentioned by CBSE namely Remembering, Understanding,

Application, High Order Thinking Skills and Evaluation. Solutions for these have been checked

twice and efforts have been made to align them closely to the Marking Scheme. Practically, this

book provides students everything they need to learn and excel.

At last we would like to thank our authors, editors, reviewers and specially students who

regularly send us suggestions which helps in continuous improvement of this book and makes

this book stand in the category of “One of the Best”. Wish you all Happy Learning.

S. No. Control Used to

1. Enter the PAN No. of an employee

2. Choose your Gender (M/F)

3. Choose your city if exist otherwise enter new city

4. Submit form

SOLUTIONS 1. (a) (i) Application Software : MS-Office (MS-Word, MS-Excel etc)

(ii) System Software : Operating system (Unix, Linux, Windows etc) 1

(b) (i) Dot Matrix Printer

(ii) Laser Printer 1

(c) Analog computer deals with physical quantities

Digital computer deals with discrete quantities. 2

(d) The CPU has two sub-units :

(i) The Control Unit (CU)

(ii) Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)

The control unit controls the entire operation being carried out.

The ALU performs both operations as the arithmetic and logical operations. 2

(e) Operating system : An operating system is a system software which acts as an interface between users and

hardware. It manages all hardware and software, input/output and all activities within the operating system.

Functions of an Operating System :

(i) Processor Management

(ii) Device Management

(iii) Memory management

(iv) File Management 2

(f) Difference RAM and ROM :

(i) Randow Access Memory (RAM)

(a) It holds information temporarily.

(b) Information is lost when power supply is switched off.

(c) It is know as Volatile Memory.

(d) It holds operating system and application programs which are currently in use.

(ii) Read Only Memory (ROM) :

(a) It stores information permanently.

(b) Information is not lost even if the computer is switched off.

(c) It is known as non-valatile memory.

(d) It holds system software such as Boot leader. 2

2. (a) Syntax errors : Occur when syntax rules of any programming Language are violated.

Logical errors : occur due to wrong logic of program. 1

(b) SetEnabled (False) 1

(c) Different Characteristic of JAVA :

(i) Java is the first paltform indeperdent language. As it states ‘‘Write Once Run Everywhere’’ means you

can run the byte code file of Java on range of OS.

(ii) Java is known as architecturally neutral language.

(iii) Java is an Unicode language. Its character size is of 2 bytes.

(iv) Java is robust. It gives high exception handling to avoid run time failures. 2

(v) Java has an excellent GUI. It allows multi threading with allowing multiple treads to run at the same

time.

(d) The Switch statement must be by a single integer control variable, and each case section must correspond to

a single constant value for the variable.

The If ...... else if combination allows any kind of condition after each if. 2

(e) Variables are named temporary storage locations.

Variable Declaration : In Java, all variables must be declared before they can be used. The basic form of a

variable declaration is

Data Type identifier [=value], identifier [=value]....];

Variable Initialization : After declaration of variable, the variable initializes with the value for itself. Then these

variables use for further steps in the programming.

Example,

int x, y, z; // declares three integer type (int) x, y, and z.

int d=3, e, f=5; // declares three more integers with

initialization byte z=34; // initializes z. 2

(f) The unary oprators require only one operand. They perform various operations such as incrementing/

decrementing a value by one, negating an expression, or inverting the boolean value.

example,

class UnaryDemo

{

public static void main (String [ ] args)

{

int result=+1;

system.out.println(result);

result--;

system.out.println(result);

}

}

binary operator defines by two operands as addition, sub traction, Multiplication operations.

For example,

Class Arithmetic Demo

{

public static void main (String [ ] args)

{

int result=1 + 2;

system. out. println (‘‘1 + 2 = ‘‘+ result); 2

}

}

3. (a) Advantages of using DBMS

(i) Stores data in a structured way.

(ii) Query the database for genuine output.

(iii) Sorts and mainpulates the data in the database.

(iv) Validate the data entered and check, for inconsistencies. 1

(v) Produces reports to make it easy to comprehend the information stored in the database.

(b) Mysql > SHOW DATABASES; 1

(c) IS NULL represents blank space, i.e., value is not assigned.

Distinct keyword is used to eliminate redundant data from display.

BETWEEN operator defines the range of values must fall into to make the condition true.

LIKE operator works with wild card characters, i.e. % and _ It matches the letters exactly or given length. 2

(d) (i) Primary Key

A primary key is a field in a table that is uniques for each record. The purpose of a primary key is to uniquely

identify each record in a table.

(ii) Foreign key 2

A field or a combination of fields in a table that has a unique value for each row.

(e) (i) Data Definition Language (DDL) commands

— CREATE, ALTER, DROP, RENAME

(ii) Data Manipulation Languate (DML) commands

SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, INSERT INTO 2

(f) (i) TRIM ( ) : Removes both leading and trailing spaces from the string.

Syntax : mysqL > SELECT TRIM (First_Name) FROM Employee; 2

(ii) MID ( ) : Returns the specified number of characters from the middle of the string.

Syntax : Mysql > SELECT SUBSTRING (Str, m, n) from table ;

4. (a) On finding a matching value the control jumps to the statement pertaining to that value and the statement

is executed, till the break statement is encountered or end of switch is reached. 1

(b) parsefloat ( ) — To convert a string value to float type 1

(c) 21

21 1

(d) int i ;

for (i=0; i<=10; i++)

{

if(i%2==0)

{

System.out.println(i++);

}

} 2

(e) Switch (ch)

{
