History

The Civil Engineering Department was established in the year 2007 offering

B.E. Civil Engineering program. The Department is headed by Dr.R.Kumutha who

has more than 12 years of teaching & research experience. The Department has

qualified faculty with varied experience in areas of Structural Engineering,

Environmental Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Geology, Remote Sensing etc.

Civil Engineering Department is in the Third year. At present, the students'

strength of the department is 194. We have well equipped Strength of Materials lab,

Fluid Mechanics & Machinery lab, Survey Lab, Soil Mechanics & Highway

Engineering lab, Environmental Engineering Lab, CAD Lab and Concrete &

Research Lab.

ESTABLISHMENT OF LABS

Strength of Materials Lab

The Strength of materials lab is well equipped with the major equipments like Universal testing machine, Spring testing machine, Hardness testing machine, Universal wood testing machine, Impact testing machine, Torsion test machine, and Deflection testing Apparatus.

Survey Lab

The lab has the following major equipments: Vernier Theodolites, Electronic Theodolite, Dumpy levels, Prismatic compass, Alidades, Plane tables, Chains & Tapes & Totalstation equipment.

CAD Lab

The lab is fully computerized with 25

systems. This lab is provided with internet

facilities to enable the students to carry out

their project works on the recent fields

successfully. This laboratory has recent

softwares such as AUTOCADD.

Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Lab

The Fluid mechanics and Machinery Lab is furnished with equipments such as Orifice and mouthpiece, Notches and pipe line assembly with provisions, Orifice meter and Venturi meter for flow measurements in pipes & channels and measuring losses in pipes. It is also equipped with major machineries such as Centrifugal pump, Reciprocating pump, Kaplan turbine, Francis turbine, Impact of jet on vanes, Pelton wheel turbine, etc.

2007-11 Batch of Civil Engineering Students went for survey

camp to Gopalipuram Hills, Madakulam Village, Pasumalai,

Madurai from 04-01-2010 to 13-01-2010. The area taken for

survey is about 6.4acres. Students were imparted with the basic

concepts of Triangulation, Trilateration, Contouring, Astronomy,

Profile Levelling systems etc., During the survey camp they did
