What a busy week we've had!
On Monday morning, we learnt that
our SIAMS inspection had been
postponed. This will now take place
at some point in the very near future
however we do not know exactly when
this will be. On Monday afternoon, Jen
joined us for collective worship. She
asked us to think about what we will be
giving at harvest. Jen told us the story
about the two loaves, five fish and the
picnic lunch that fed at least 5000
people! Children always love the songs
Jen teaches us. Mrs Stanley has
managed to get the latest song:
Stand Strong so we can sing it when Jen
isn't with us! On Wednesday, Michelle
came into school to lead us in collective
worship. She asked us to think about the
role of the church in its community.
Oak Class had learnt about this last year
and is was great to see them using
their knowledge to answer lots of
questions! Thank you Michelle for also
joining Oak class for RE. They have been
learning about Islam and she was
amazed by what they could tell her when
Mrs Stanley asked the children to recap
their learning. Michelle also ran her craft
club this week. After being in the Oak
Class when they were learning about
prayer, we'd asked Michelle if she could
make some little crosses with the children
- she came fully prepared and the
children enjoyed making their own little
crosses covered in wool.

School Improvement Adviser Our school improvement adviser came into school this week. She interviewed KS2 children
about their learning in RE. She was very pleased to see children speaking so confidently and
passionately about their learning and the obvious pride they have in their learning - she
commented that their books were beautiful and she was pleased to see children making links
with what they have learnt. Mrs Stanley was very proud of the pupils and of the
staff in what we have all worked so hard to achieve.
this week goes to
Annabel, Sophie, Aaron - well done
CHAMPION is Aaron
What a busy week we've had! (continued)
On Wednesday evening, Mrs Watson
and Mrs Stanley, ably assisted by some
of our pupils, showed round several
groups of prospective parents and
pupils. Our pupils spoke so passionately
and eloquently about our school the
teachers felt very humbled! They were
great ambassadors for our school!
On Thursday evening, we held our
parents/carers' evening. Thank you for
the great turn out and for taking the time
to fill out the questionnaires. We are
sorry we overran a little - we hope you
enjoyed having time to really read
through your child's books and
see all the fabulous learning
that takes place here!

Oak Class Oak Class have done some great learning in RE, finding out about what different people believe about God. We are taking a break from RE now
and moving onto Geography. Next week, and for the next few weeks, Oak class will be learning all about England. This will include learning about: the cities that are found here and being able to accurately locate them on a map; knowing some main human and physical features found in key
cities; naming and locating the major rivers in England and knowing the name of the river that runs through each of the major cities; knowing what is meant by a county, being able to name some and locate them on a map; finding out about mountains in England and where they are
located; and understanding what is meant by 'climate' and being able to describe the climate of England. In addition to this, children will learn about longitude and latitude and be able to talk about hemispheres. They will use this to describe the location of Leeming Bar. There's lots of research to be done and precise use of maps. Judging by the children's enthusiasm for our new way of working in RE,
I'm confident they are going to love being immersed in geography - I'm certain they are up for the challenge! It's great to know that we've inspired our pupils (which is what we set out to do in our vision). We want inclusive, independent and
inspired learners. Judging by the comments at Parents' Evening, where many of the grown-ups said, "My child has been talking to the family all about this at the dinner table!" We think we can say that we've inspired the children to share their learning at home!
Mrs Stanley has been really impressed with all children's work ethic throughout school over the past few weeks - she's seen many independent learners, even from our youngest members. Well done children.
New Website
Our new website has finally gone live! From now on, we will be back to updating our blog pages. Please check these out. Mrs Stanley will try to make the blog pages link to
the closed Facebook Group so that she doesn't have to post things twice! There will
be Dojos for pupils who leave comments on our blog (or if their grown-ups do too)!
Sumdog At the end of a week long North Yorkshire
Sumdog online maths contest Oak class finished in 35th place with the school
champion being Kieron.
Water Polo With this newsletter is a letter

Don’t Forget World Squash Day at Bedale. Saturday 12th
October 2019, 10.30am to 2.30pm
Acorn Class In the Acorn class we are learning about what it means to be part of a faith community.
We are looking at how special we are and what things we are part of such as clubs and our school family. We are going to be investigating Christian symbols and how Christians believe God cares for us. We will also be looking at Muslims and how calligraphy is important to them as well as how the
prophet teaches them to be part of a community. After that we will explore elements of the Jewish religion and how Jewish people come together each Friday to celebrate. Finally we will be exploring baptisms and marriages looking in particular at similarities and differences.
