24hrs in New York

“The city that never sleeps” can be as fulfilling as you want it. The Cuisine, Royal hotels and Hot spots in any genre, will have you doubling up your hours. Sexy nightlife introduces 1 Oak or Bungalow 8, for riveting enjoyment; sumptuous cuisine at Gustorganics, Butter or 21 Club and lay your head or romance at the Four Seasons, The Mansfield or The Hotel Plaza Athenee.

1 Oak

NightlifeNo one can come to New York, and not hit the club! It’s just unacceptable.

1 oakA one of a kind combination of sophistication and equality, breaking the barrier of the infamous and unseen, highlighting the separation between art and fashion, creates an environment known only as 1 Oak. Where newness unfolds and spontaneity is guaranteed. ‘Bust a move’ here and indulge a wide array of intoxicating shots like the Tequila smash and Honey Trap signatures while your in the big city!

Bungalow 8This velvet roped night club only opens to a few but that’s what makes it so popular! Standard VIP services and bar that stocks from a tutti fruiti juice drinks to hard core classics. The live DJ plays a mixture from all genres all night and you won’t regret the exclusive treatment from the Bungalow 8 staff and maybe, just maybe, you’ll be luckily seated beside ‘the’ Paris Hilton or Nicole Kidman! The ‘anything goes’ atmosphere at Bungalow 8 is what sets them apart from the rest. You want to arrive via a helicopter? No prob; you can land it on their helipad!

Cuisine in NYThe best of New York includes great food and your 24hrs won’t be complete until you satisfy your appetite at Gustoorganics, Butter or 21 Club!

GustorganicsFeel like Adam and Eve at this organic paradise of scrumptious greens. Don’t be fooled, this restaurant is creating a revolution back to the first garden, although ham, turkey and chicken are not excluded from their menu. How do they do it? Well as the same suggests ‘organic’ foods are the select choices of all breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner menus. Their Ventura Omelette with sweet corn mix peppers and zucchini or Fenomeno Crepe (Mozzarella, turkey, tomatoes and two eggs on a spinach crepe w/ a media luna), are great breakfast choices. If you’re doing lunch then a grilled thin crust pepperoni pizza with sliced pepperoni, mozzarella & tomato sauce should fill you up, with their select soups and fresh fruit salad. Compliment your meal with one of their delicious fresh fruit cold beverages of Rojo (strawberries, orange juice, agave & ice), Fresco (mangoes, orange juice, agave & ice), Classico (bananas, milk agave & ice) or Pura Vida (strawberries, bananas, orange juice, agava & ice) or hot beverages of Hot Cocoa or Mate Latte.

ButterA wide collection of wines from across the world (so big I had to download it!), accolade the variety on the menu at Butter Restaurant. Entrées with a French style and

technique, but all American ingredients of Lamb, Jumbo Shrimp, Duck Breast, Chicken and Root Vegetable Pot Pie are sure to have your mouth watering from the first glance at the menu. By the time you take a sip of their signature Butter Martini, Elderflower Spritzer, or Gingered Apple Cider Martini you’ll want to take them back home. Plus, you’ll be irate your taste buds with dessert choices of Hazelnut and Dark Chocolate Semifreddo or Raspberry Beignets (with vanilla dipping sauce). Wow!Their ‘space’ can fit 300 guests and “fuses comfort with modern elegance”.

Let 21’ offer you a variety of outstanding dining experiences with “discreetly attentive service in a sophisticated and fun atmosphere”. Choose from their Wine cellar dining, bar room, cocktail lounge, or Upstairs at 21, Puncheon Room, Harbour Room, Orchid Room, Club Room, Jack Room; need I say more?

View from The Four Seasons Hotel

Let’s talk desserts since that’s my favourite; Chai-Poached Pear (cinnamon ice cream, pain perd) Chocolate Opera Torte (white chocolate-coffee cream, blood orange reduction, Crème Brûlée (espresso biscotti)i, Apple Pie (walnut streusel topping, vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce), Valencia Rice Pudding (sun-dried cherries, apricots, whipped cream), just to name a delicious few. Before satisfying your sweet tooth though, there’s a menu too big to mention!

The Four Seasons Hotel atop Manhattan’s leading shopping and business district, between Park and Madison Avenues boasts luxurious accommodations and complimentary use of the fitness centre and spa. You call shots; choose from the Presidential suite, Ty Warner Penthouse or the Park View Tower/City View Tower Guest Rooms. Guest rooms consist of an entrance foyer, living/sleeping room, dressing room and large wall-to-wall marble bath, while the Presidential Suite offers spectacular views of the city and Central Park and are accessed by a private elevator. After you’ve gotten a full workout at the gym, the spa offers ‘Big Apple Antioxidants’ and ‘Lemon Coffee invigorator’ body treatments that will capture your spirit and indulge your senses. Why not treat your face to a Collagen skin firming mask or Eye regenerating mask? Full body massages like the Hot stone massage and the Thai ceremony, are sure to wisp you away to a earthly heaven. The Aromatherapy elixir serves to boost the immune system and relax muscle tension using essential oils of the guest’s choosing!

The MansfieldThis historic and prestigious landmark with a clubroom, mini bar, and gymnasium, has a 1903 eccentric ambiance that hosts a wide variety of customized rooms that would suit any taste. The Renwick Duplex Penthouse is a stunning two-story loft that features a spectacular sunken soaking tub, floor to ceiling window, hi-fi entertainment system and a wet bar; a choice all would agree the best! The M Bar is a perfect place for an intimate evening for two, or as a venue for gatherings of up to 75 people and the Clubroom

Trini Carnival or Carnival in Trinidad & Tobago.

“Carnival in T&T is so special to all ah we Like we need blood in we vein That’s how we feel about Port-of-Spain When the posse dem come in town Beatin pan d a bongo drum Is madness everywhere Carnival is your true freedom Make a noise and a joyful sound and jump up in the air...”~ “Its Carnival” - Destra Garcia and Machel Montano. The lyrics of this song capture the essence of Trinidad carnival’s climatic street parade. Carnival in Trinidad is perhaps the most significant event on the island’s cultural and tourism calendar with numerous events leading up to the street parade on carnival Monday and Tuesday.Carnival is a festive season which occurs immediately before Lent. It typically entails a public celebration or parade, combining some elements of a circus, masque and public street party. It is natural to see people

dressed up or masquerading during the celebrations. Unlike the Rio De Janeiro Carnival and New Orleans Mardi Gras, Trinidad style Carnival is the model for Caribbean carnivals including Jamaica and Barbados. Furthermore, Trinidad Carnival has been introduced to major cities around the world including Miami, New York, Boston, Toronto and London to name a few, and it has even been introduced to the African nation of Uganda.

If you have never been to “Trini carnival”, you have never been to a real carnival! What are you waiting on? Allow me give you a glimpse of what it is like: Look into my eyes. Are you seeing what I am seeing? If you are, then you are seeing shirtless men and scantily clad women in beautiful, colourful costumes, sweating and gyrating to the sounds of soca music. There you will find People from all walks of life in unity, “jumping, waving, wining and drinking”.You have not fully experienced “Trini carnival” if you have not been to jouvert (pronounced “joo-vey). This is also a street party which usually starts well before dawn and peaks hours after sunrise, and

involves mud, cocoa and motor oil. (Be sure to wear old clothes). Shall I continue? “Jouvert” is the very soul of Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. In the words of 3 Canal, a popular Rapso group, “Ah love it, ah love it, ah love meh Carnival”. There is something about this celebration that is pagan, primal and exciting. It’s always a thrill to play dutty mas in Port-of-Spain. For the Jouvert crew, this is an almost religious experience and begins two days prior, early on Carnival Saturday morning, with the collection of mud, their chosen balm. From Port-of-Spain begins a journey into the very heart of the island. For these “Jouvert junkies”, that journey is mixed with moderate helpings of good Trinidadian rum, sweet Trinidad food and consists of a daylong bonding ritual that’s willingly shared with friends. Mud, however, is not everyone’s choice ointment for soothing away life’s cares; others prefer oil, molasses, cocoa or any one of a selection of more brightly colored body paints.

You too can step into the dawn, not only the dawn of this particular Jouvert morning celebration but also, for a while at least, back into the dawn of time. Enjoy the mud and the music. There is nothing religious or spiritual about Trini Carnival, other than your own experience. It’s simply about freedom and there is nothing quite like it, anywhere else in the world. Be sure to visit Trinidad Carnival and experience the joys of carnival firsthand. Can’t make it to the Islands? Don’t worry, you can check out the various carnival events held in New York, put on by Simon Khan, a Trinidadian living in New York City. He is also the founder of “Antilia”, a Caribbean entertainment brand, geared towards the promotion of Caribbean culture, entertainment and tourism.

The SettingThis parish, home to the popular city Montego Bay, may be one of the smallest in the country; however, it is well known for its exclusive nature being both exotic and secretive. It provides the ideal setting for those who seek privacy as well as the opportunity to embrace the culture of the people.

Check-InIn experiencing serenity and subtlety, your visit would be off to a great start once you check-in at the Round hill hotel and villas. Time to EatFor the supreme taste of Jamaican Cuisine, the pelican Restaurant would be ideal. For a more refined and international menu; the Royal Stocks would be first preference. This takes space tourism to a new level. More than 200 people have expressed an interest in travelling to the space hotel and at least 43 people have already reserved. But critics have questioned the project, saying the time frame is unreasonable and also where the money is coming from to finance the project. It has been reported that an anonymous billionaire space enthusiast has granted $3 billion to finance the project.

SPAcE ToUriSM

The Barcelona-based architects of The Galactic Suite Space Resort plans to open the first hotel in space. They say they are on target to accept its first guests in 2012. It will cost 3 million euro ($4.4 million) for a three-night stay at the hotel, with this price including an eight-week training course on a tropical island. During their stay, guests would see the sun rise 15 times a day and travel around the world every 80 minutes. They would wear suits that will allow them to crawl around their pod rooms by sticking themselves to the walls like Spiderman.

10 cane Rum10 Cane is a luxury rum created from the first pressing of virgin Trinidadian sugar cane. It is crafted by the experts at Moët Hennessy.

Things You’ll Need:Fresh Mint Leaves (about 7)Ice2 oz. Light RumClub Soda/SeltzerSugar CaneJuice/GuarapoBittersLimes, Quartered.

Use a muddler to crush 3 drops bitters, 3 lime quarters, and the mint leaves in the bottom of a tall glass. This image shows a Mojito Muddler, but any muddler will do. Bitters are drink flavorings that are either bitter or bittersweet. They are generally strong, and intended to be used a few drops at a time. You can find a muddler and bitters at any liquor store.

After you’ve muddled the mint leaves, bitters, and lime quarters thoroughly, fill the glass with ice. Now add the 2 oz. of light Rum. We recommend 10 Cane Rum, but you can choose which one to buy. When buying rum at the liquor store, make sure to ask the cashier whether or not it will be good for making a Mojito.

Fill the glass with Sugar Cane Juice or Guarapo, leaving one inch of the glass to pour in the club soda. Cover with another glass, making sure it is on tight, and shake it for about 10 seconds.

Your Mojito is ready! Serve with a straw. Add lemon or lime wedges and mint leaves for aesthetics. Serve immediately.

gUStoRgAnicSNew York’s Best place to Go Green.Beginning as a thought in one foodie’s mind nearly 10 years ago, GustOrganics finally came to fruition in 2008. Argentinean-born businessman, Alberto Gonzalez had a passion for food, but found he was less than thrilled when he frequently traveled to New York on business. He was surprised that one of the most sophisticated cities in the world lacked an abundance of fresh, high-quality foods. Hoping to fill this void, he hit the streets in order to speak to New Yorkers. After a year of polling people on what they envisioned for an organic restaurant, Gonzalez compiled these various ideas into one organically green vision. Today, GustOrganics is the first USDA certified organic restaurant in New York, and the nation’s first restaurant to use 100% USDA certified organic ingredients.GustOrganics is also certified as a Green Restaurant by the Green Restaurant Association, and stands by the motto “Good, Clean, Fair.” Gonzalez’s commitment to a green vision is apparent in every detail of the place, from its corn straws to its low-energy appliances.Menu Preview: NATURAL FRUIT BLENDS COLD BEVERAGES HOT BEVERAGES FRESH ORGANIC BABY MEALSBe sure to visit GustOrganics at www.gustorganics.com

Freeport, BahamasEveryone loves a relaxing beach vacation to get away from it all! Whether you live in a big metropolitan city or a small suburb, changing the environment for a week or even a couple of days can make all the difference. There are so many places in the world to choose from so where do you go? One of my first island vacations was to Freeport located on the Grand Bahama Island of The Bahamas, officially The Commonwealth of the Bahamas. These islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean, north of Cuba and southeast of the US and are only a forty minute flight away from Miami, FL. I was very excited to go on this trip. Being my first time I was not sure what does the island offer and did not have time to do my research online. Being a woman, it means you pack way to many option outfits per day! I always pack the night before which means everything I see is pretty much going into that suitcase. Five swimsuits, accessories, beauty supplies, hair flattening iron, five sandals, two pumps, five shorts, four day dresses, five night dresses

and ridiculous amounts of t-shirts later you realize that you maybe be a little over the weight limit. By this point I’d much rather settle to pay the fee at the airport than spending another hour re-assessing the situation. Ohhh wait! Sneakers because you are so going to start your days by running on the beach!

My Travel Diary

Page 39: Pursuite Travel Magazine DEMO ISSUE

I was flying out of Atlanta and there were no direct flights into the Freeport International Airport (FPO) so I had a connection in Miami. My iPod was full of relaxing beachy tunes by LMFAO, love songs by Alicia Keys and Beyonce and of course a little rap by Jay-Z and Lil Wayne to set the mood to go out! The flight to Miami was very nice, about an hour long. The flight from Miami to Freeport was not bad once I got used to the fact that the airplane is super small, I can hear the engine, sitting next to the restroom and can probably reach the pilot cabin. Once I got to the security at the airport a very nice gentleman with a very strong island accent welcomed me to The Bahamas and I forgot all about the plane. Note that it is an English speaking country as it was a British colony but it might take you a few days to understand the

locals. American Residents and Citizens do not need a visa to enter the country but make sure you have your Green Card and/or Passport. Also, not every flight into the island is small charter plane. Some airlines use larger planes depending on your city of departure.

I did not stay in a hotel as my friends own a condo in the middle of the Port Lucaya Marketplace Marina. However the area offers plenty of hotel and resorts options including a Westin and a Sheraton among others. I’ve had experiences in a couple of them and even though the islanders can be a little slow moving for an American mind set, the service is always great and everyone is friendly and very helpful.

My Travel Diary The area has so much to offer for a relaxing vacation. There are plenty of restaurants offering Greek, Italian, Mexican and Caribbean Cuisines. My personal favorite is Lucciano’s. It is a little more upscale then the others but it has one of the best views and definitely the best lobster I’ve had in my life. If you are looking to have one nice dinner during your stay, save it for the last night and don’t go anywhere else! If you are looking for large nightclubs and a posh environment, you are in a wrong place. However, if you are like me and think of an island as a relaxing rather then intense entertainment experience, it’s the perfect place. There is nightly entertainment in the center of the Marketplace with Bahamian cultural shows, karaoke and dancing. There are plenty of bars that offer great happy hour specials, a Casino for high rollers and of course there are your hotel bars. The party is always on in the Marketplace and it is a very relaxing, down to earth and casual atmosphere.

Shopping is not very extensive but great for souvenirs and small boutiques with things you will not find anywhere else. Mind that shopping can get a little pricey if you are shopping for clothes due to the stores paying high rent to be in the Marketplace as it is a major tourist destination in Freeport. On the other hand, I would recommend you to check out the stores caring crystals, china, leather, perfumes and colognes and diamonds!!! You will not find prices that low in the US. You can also conduct business if you absolutely have to! There are banks, internet shops and business centers in the hotels.

As far as your during the day activities there is again, plenty to do. There are all sorts of water sports, reef tours, swimming with

dolphins, snorkeling, golf and spas. I am definitely a lounge around the beach and a beach bar kind of person so I’ve spent most of my days doing that.

The best snack to have during the day is a traditional conk salad and a cold Kalik bear. I’m salivating just thinking about that salad right now. Seafood lover’s ultimate delight! The beaches are very clean, white sand and absolutely beautiful! The water is clear most of the time depending on the weather and temperature is warm enough to swim starting around March and up to October, November. Some beaches are public and some are maintained by the hotels. You are welcome to rent the chairs, umbrellas and even order from their menu. The Bahamas is a great destination for everyone! Most of the tourists are American but there are many Germans and Italians as well. Do NOT go during Spring Break as the island is filled with kids partying all day and night and some people find that distracting from their relaxing vacations.

...I didn’t take any of those morning runs but I took some great afternoon walks, watching the sunset, smelling the crisp air and listening to the sounds of the ocean. Its moments like this that make you feel like you don’t need anything else to make you happy because you already are :) Take a vacation now and let R|A Travel & Project Travel be your guide!

Where would California be without itsStar-studded appeal? The economic downtown has not only confirmed that California is “run” by Hollywood but has put their fragile state economy under a microscope.

With no real Wall Street presence, California has to rely on the appeal of Film and Entertainment as one of it’s main avenue for revenue to the state. It has long been said that models make it in New York and film stars make it in LA, California’s most commonly known city.To illustrate my point, Hollywood’s presence is so imminent that the state’s governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the biggest film stars Hollywood as ever known.

With the recent successes of films like avatar and the hurt locker at the golden globes, Hollywood’s biggest night brought some of the top earning A-listers to the state. This overshadowed many problems facing the state such as the thousands of jobs being cut for municipal works.

This begs the question; what if we move to an age where actors no longer bolster the same earning prowess they do currently? Much similar to how online portals such as I-tunes and YouTube have drawn audiences from physical media Like Cd’s and VCRs.

Your Opinions are greatly appreciated & Pursuíte Travel encourages you to let your thoughts be known by emailing us at [email protected]. Thank You.

So I ask, where would California bewithout its star-studded appeal?
