Easy to use push-in system for Compressed AirThe John Guest range of push-in fittings and pipe provide the ideal connection fromcompresser receiver to air line service components through to complete ring main andtake off points. A compressed air system can be installed quickly and easily, considerablyreducing the need for specialist staff and providing much reduced production down time.

No need to prepare threaded pipe or apply solvent, all the connections can be made witha simple push-in action. The system is then immediately ready for use. Complex systemscan be assembled much more rapidly than with traditional methods and because they arealso easy to disconnect, systems are easy to alter or extend.

The fittings are produced in either a tough engineering plastics material or in brass insizes 12mm to 28mm. They are intended for use with John Guest nylon pipe but can alsobe used with copper or aluminum pipe.

COLLET COVERS

PIPE CUTTER

Collet Covers prevent accidental removal or tampering with piping. The pipe can beinserted with the Collet Cover already attached to the fitting or the cover can slide intoposition afterwards. We recommend covers be used when pipework is hidden inside walls, ceilings etc. Collet Covers can be removed to allow the pipe to be disconnected as required.

The new Water Trap Tee from John Guest solves the ongoing prob-lem of moisture in an air distribution system and provides the easyalternative to the need to install “Swan Necks”.

The ingenious inside arrangement of the fitting allows air to flow, with minimum head loss, from the main to take-off point withoutallowing water to follow. The moisture is retained in the line to bedrawn off at some suitable location.

InstallationIt is of vital importance for the correct function of the Water TrapTee, that the air distribution system be nearly horizontal, and thatthe outlet port be facing downward. Markings to indicatecorrectorientation have been molded onto the body to assistinstallation.

The John Guest Water Trap Tee Converter is a simple and convenientway of converting a standard John Guest 28mm Tee, Part No.PM0228E, to a Water Trap Tee.

When fitted, it will stop condensed water within the air system fromentering the vertical take off spurs.

It is important that the air distribution system be installed with thecorrect fall, and that water drain points be regularly vented

To AssembleUse either John Guest 28mm Nylon Pipe Part No. PA-RM2823-3M-10B or standard 28mm copper pipe. The pipe should be cut square-ly and be free of burrs.

The shorter spigot should be pressed into the pipe. When usingcopper pipe the fit will be loose, this will not affect the function.

The Pipe and Converter should now be firmly inserted into thecenter port of the tee. Full insertion is required to correctly locate theconverter and provide a water tight seal.

By turning the screw cap by approximately 1/4 turn (2 clicks can beheard) the collet is locked in place and further compression of the‘O’ ring on the pipe is achieved.

To disconnect ensure the system is depressurized before removing fitting. Pushin collet squarely against face of fitting. With the collet held in this position, thepipe can be removed. The fitting can then be re-used.

Installation has never been easierTo make a connection, the tube is simply pushed in by hand: the unique patentedJohn Guest collet locking system then holds the tube firmly in place withoutdeforming it or restricting flow.

Cut pipe square Cut the pipe square ensuring it is free of score marks. For Speedfit plastic pipe werecommend use of one of the John Guest pipe cutters. Do not use a hacksaw. Toavoid damage to the ‘O’ ring, make sure burrs and sharp edges are removed.

Making a connectionFittings and pipe should be kept clean and undamaged before use.

Pull on the pipe to check it is secure. It is good practice to test the system priorto leaving site and/or before use.

Push the pipe into the fitting, to the pipe stop. The collet (gripper) has stain-less steel teeth which hold the pipe firmly in position while the ‘O’ ring providesa permanent leak proof seal.

With the fitting clean and undamaged and the pipe cut square, you are now readyto make the connection.

As with other sizes, the pipe should be properly prepared and inserted fully intothe fitting (to the end of the internal tube stop). By turning the screw cap byapproximately a 1/4 turn (2 clicks can be heard) the collet is locked in placeand further compression of the ‘O’ ring on the pipe is achieved. It will be noticedthat by locking the collet in place there is reduced lateral and sideways move-ment of the pipe.

To release the pipe from the locked position, turn the screw cap counter-clockwise approximately 1/4 turn. Now it can be released like a normal Speedfitconnection by pushing in the collet and pulling the pipe out.

The range has now been extended to include 28mm.Like all smaller size fittings, the new larger size has a collet with stainless steelteeth and an ‘O’ ring to provide the unique grip and seal connection. The fittingcan also be demounted and used again without the need for replacement parts.

Push-In Compressed Air SystemWhen installing a compressed air system, it is advisable to first attach only thehorizontal pipe clips and only attach the clips to the vertical pipes after a smallamount of pressure has been applied to the system. This will ensure that thevertical pipes have positioned themselves correctly before they are clipped.

Technical Specifications Applications Pipe and fittings should be kept clean and undamaged before use. These products are designed for use with air. For other applications please contact our TechnicalServices Department.

The system is not recommended for use with explosive gases, petroleum spirits and other fuelsor for central heating systems.

Installations - Our RecommendationsThe pressure rating and installation guidelines of the tubing employed must also be consideredduring the design of compressed air system.

Pipe should be supported at maximum increments of 32 inches to prevent excessive load beingapplied to the fitting. These supports should not be closer than 1 inch from the end of thefitting.

John Guest fittings and pipe should only be connected after the air receiver and not directto a compresser.

We recommend that collet covers be used when pipework is hidden inside walls and ceilings.

It is recommended that all pipe and fittings installations are pressure tested after installationand before handing over to the final user.

Cleaners and Sanitizing Acetal FittingsOur advice to customers is to use cleaners and sanitizing agents that are above pH4 and low inhypochlorite level. Acetal fittings and parts that are cleaned and/or sanitized should be rinsed imme-diately with copious amounts of clean tap water to remove all traces of the cleaners. Details ofwhich products are made from acetal are shown in our catalogs but generally John Guest productsincorporating acetal are designated by the part number prefix PI, PM, CI, CM and RM. Polypropylenefittings offer greater resistance to aggressive chemicals than acetal fittings. Polypropylene does nothave the same mechanical properties as acetal and John Guest polypropylene fittings are generallydesignated by the part number prefix PP. Our material suppliers recommend ECOLAB Oasis 133 as asuitable external cleaner for acetal products manufactured by John Guest.

Warranty While we give a warranty against defects in manufacture or materials, it is the responsibility ofthe specifier to ensure that fittings and related products are suitable for their application. Theinstallation must be carried out correctly in accordance with our recommendations, complyingwith recognized codes of practice and relevant national standards, and be properly maintained. Please refer to our terms and conditions of sale.
