Transport a Vertical Vessel in the Horizontal position
Intergraph CAS
Ray Delaforce
It is often required that a vertical pressure vessel be transported in the horizontal position. In PV
Elite we need to get the vessel into the horizontal position, and perhaps add saddle supports for
the purpose of transporting the vessel.
Vertical
‘Flipped’ into the horizontal position
This is a very easy operation, accomplished with few clicks of the mouse button.
Flipping from Vertical to Horizontal
On the PV Elite menu Click on the Tools Icon:
From the drop down menu, Click on Flip Model Orientation… When you get this dialogue
screen:
Simply click the Flip the Model Now button, and your model now lies down in the horizontal
position.
Important:
Remember to save this changed file under a different file name by clicking save as, and giving it
a new name. This preserves the original file for the model in the vertical position.
Now you can add saddles. As this vessel is being transported, it is empty. So remember to turn
off the Hydrotest Type in the Design Constraints to ‘No Hydro’:
Transportation Loads
During transportation, the vessel will experience forces from road or sea travel. One way of
loading the vessel (once you have positioned the saddles) is to click the Seismic Data tab like
this:
You should now get a transportation report for the saddles.
