ImmobilizerThe "Immobilizer" is a simple theft-deterrent featurethat, when enabled, can prevent a Volvo engine fromunauthorized starting.

Each time the vehicle is keyed off, the Driver InstrumentDisplay (DID) displays a message for 15 secondsrequesting a password to enable the Immobilizer.

If the PIN code is not entered during the 15 seconds afterkey-off, the Immobilizer remains disabled, and the vehiclecan be started normally at next key-on.

If the driver wants to enable the Immobilizer, he or sheenters a 3-digit code (PIN code) into the DID using thestalk switch; this code activates the anti-theft function. After the password is entered, the DID will display"Security Code Active," indicating that the Immobilizerhas been enabled.

When the Immobilizer is enabled, a driver will be ableto start the vehicle only after entering the correct 3-digitPIN code into the DID using the stalk switch. The driverwill be prompted for the PIN code until the correct 3-digitcode is entered.

If an incorrect code is entered, or if the engine is crankedbefore the correct password is entered, the engine will runfor only about 5 seconds. The INFO light will illuminateand the "Check Engine" message will be displayed. Theignition key must then be cycled OFF and back ON toreset this message and enter the correct password.

OverviewIn order to configure the engine immobilizer feature, four steps are required:

• Determine if the vehicle is properly equipped forthe feature.

• Perform Immobilizer Accessory Kit Programming

• Reprogram the Engine ECU.

• Reprogram the Instrument Cluster.

• Configure the values for 2 parameters.

Vehicle Equipment RequiredEngine: The Engine Immobilizer feature is available onlyfor VERSION2 vehicles with Volvo engines.Instrument Cluster: The Engine Immobilizer featurecannot be used on vehicles with the Basic InstrumentCluster. This feature requires the vehicle to be equippedwith the Medium or High-level Instrument Cluster.

Accessory Kit, Programming1Start the VCADS Pro application and connect the PC tothe vehicle’s communication connector.

2Identify the vehicle within the application and select the’Conversion Kit’ operation from the Function Group1 section of the menu.

3Connect the PC to a communication line (telephone ornetwork) and start the operation.
