Maguga Dam - Swaziland
The project won the SAICE award for Technical Excellence, the SAACE award for Technical Excellence category,Construction World’s Best Project Award for 2002 and the Fulton award for excellence in concrete construction. PLAis honoured to have been part of the design team on the project. PLA was appointed for the detail design anddetailing of the bridge over the spillway.
The total length of the deck is 180m and consists of a four span continuous deck and a five span deck. Both inreinforced concrete.

The bridge passes over the N4 at the entrance to Pretoriaand consists of three spans of 30m, 48m and 30m. Thedeck consists of a double cell box section which was post-tensioned in the longitudinal and transverse directions.
Bridge over Crocodile River PLA was appointed for the detail design of two farmbridges, one interchange bridge and one road over riverbridge.

Dr Anthony Ceronio is the lead principle. Tony’s focus is research and development work and performanceassessment of civil engineering infrastructure. Tony maintains strong ties with various academic institutions andstrives to strengthen engineering practice through the continuous infusion, into the practice, of a betterunderstanding of engineering science. This drive has resulted in a number of publications. This is achieved throughhis involvement in, and monitoring of ongoing research. On a technical level, he contributes to the firm andprojects in terms of feasibility studies, process design, and specialist reactor design. Tony has 16 years of postgraduate experience. Mr Charl van der Walt is a chemical engineer and therefore brings a unique understanding of process design. He has a thorough understanding of water quality and water treatment issues.
