As we watch the clip, think about:• The differences
and similarities between the movie clip and the scene in the novel.
• Is the movie clip close to how you picture the scene?

LITERATURE CIRCLES: ROLES
Each member of your group is responsible for one of the following: Discussion Direction - writes questions to guide
thoughtful group discussion and keeps group on task Connection Maker - writes own and group members'
connections (Text-to-Text, Text-to-Self, Text-to-World) Summarizer - writes a Beginning-Middle-End summary,
revises with group input and creates book final summary Word Wizard - searches for unusual word choice or
description or defines words the group may not know Passage Picker - selects and rereads important
passages or descriptive imagery sections to the group and discusses author's style.
LITERATURE CIRCLES! Start a new page in your journal titled The HotS LC 1 Assign each member of your group one of the five
literature circle roles. Each member has to have a different role.
Begin reading from pg 59. Each member of the group will read 1-2 paragraphs, depending on the size of the paragraph. After 3 pages, stop to work/take notes for your literature
circle roles. After each member has at least one thing written down,
share and discuss with your group what you wrote, including WHY you chose a particular word/event/passage/discussion question/connection. Your group members DO NOT have to write down what you wrote down.
Continue this process for every 3 pages.
