Challenges

1. Late delivery of media

2. Late delivery of Packaging formsPAA

Producer format

UCC

OAC

IWT

3. Inaccurate metadataBad cut timings

Missing or inaccurate audio metadata

Missing or inaccurate aspect ratio

4. Tech Eval failure

Requires new record creation and approval/definition

Producers often disputes impairments and associated cost

5 Missing billing info (should be populated in PAA.)

We can’t approve MI until this is correct

6. Last minute changes – funding, content, etc.

QG9

Orion Changes - New Forms Objectives

Integrate containerization calculator Ease metadata entry process - each form builds upon

the next Web 2.0 experience Integrated format sheet where PBS contributions can be

layered into a Producer’s provided-format sheet. Reduce the amount of data re-keying currently required by

Orion.

QG23

Containerization Benefits Status Cost Savings

QG24

Benefits will be felt across the system

For producers

Sponsorship opportunities increase as we have the tools in place to match what the market wants

Underwriting credits can be delivered closer to air date Producers can deliver elements more efficiently (recurring elements can be delivered once

rather than multiple times)

For the system

Increased sponsorship revenues frees up NPS funds to support additional projects

Facilitate Multiplatform usage Improved bandwidth management

For PBS Increased automation reduces operational and bandwidth

costs

QG25

Containerization across the schedule

More than 80% of ongoing primetime series have begun containerizing new and some legacy episodes

100% of Kids Pre-K Block new episodes are containerizing

80% of all Kids series have committed to containerizing moving forward

QG26

Containerization - Savings

Non-Containerized1 hour of editing = $139

Re-ingest = $312Re-flattening of revised package = $35

Total = $486

ContainerizedIngest of new underwriting spot = $78Re-flattening of revised package = $35

Total = $113

QG27

Next StepsSystem Changes : Producers using Package Forms for Submission

process Decouple process status that are tied together: When

media arrives, it will be ingested. Decouple content and underwriting spots on the same

tape. All underwriters are getting approved <10 days before air which holds up the entire show from being ingested and processed through the system.
