PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

SOCIETY – MY MAGAZINE AIMS

My target audience for my magazine was males and females aged 18-23 years old. I decided to use this target audience

for my magazine because people this age are mostly interested in music as they go clubbing and go to festivals.

Meant that music is a very big part of their lives and I wanted to create a magazine where they can keep up to date

with new and upcoming music which caters to range of genres instead of targeting one particular genre of music

like ‘pop’ or ‘rock’ and that is how I chose the genre ‘chart’ music for my magazine. The social class of my target

audience was a higher class but I have priced my magazine at £1.50 so it is affordable for a range of classes.

GENDER, AGE AND STEREOTYPES

Originally I only wanted to target females but seeing as I chose chart music I felt like it could relate to both

males and females. In my magazine I used both stereotypical colours of males and females e.g. purples and greys. Stereotypically ‘Rock’ music is for ‘Emos, goths and rockers’ but I did not want to incorporate

that into my magazine and wanted to relate to a variety of ‘stereotypical’ audiences. Chart music tends to be

mostly ‘pop’ music as pop actually means popular music.

HOW I USED RESEARCH IN MY MAGAZINE

On my front cover I used the cover lines to show the reader what artists/bands are featured in my magazine. These are artists from different genres to show that there is not one particular genre and there is a mixture. The model for my front cover is in the age range of my target audience. This will then attract people of this age range as they will be

able to connect with the magazine.
