    1. OBJECTIVE

The objective of this method statement is to provide guidelines for inspection of

construction activities for road and pavement at all .

    2. SCOPE

This method statement covers inspection activities for embankment, mixing &distribution of aggregate base-course and application of bituminous material at allprojects.

    3. REFERENCES

Following documents are considered as reference documents:

    Applicable codes and standards

    Project specifications

    Project Quality Plan

    Quality Inspection Plan

    Project Drawings

    4. ABBREVIATIONS/DEFINATIONS

    5. RESPONSIBILITIES

Area Incharge will ensure that the construction of road & pavement isaccording to this method statement, latest project drawings & specifications.

QA&QC inspector will assure that all the relevant work is carried out inconformance with project specification, PQP and QIP. In case of any non-conformance, it will be controlled through corrective action request (CAR).

    6 PROCEDURE

    6.1 EMBANKMENT

6.1.1 The surveyor will mark the alignment and determine ROW.

6.1.2 Alignment shall be checked and NGLs shall be recorded along X-sections at pre-agreed intervals till the edge of ROW.

6.1.3 Toe points of embankment shall be marked; ground surface shallbe clear and grubbed, removing all vegetation and roots, as perproject specifications.

6.1.4 Ground surface shall be scarified, moisturized and compacted asper project specifications.

6.1.5 Borrow area shall be selected after testing of borrows material to

ensure compliance with the specifications.6.1.6 Top surface of borrow area shall be cleared by removing all

    vegetation.

6.1.7 Establish OMC and MDD of fill/borrow material.

6.1.8 Material shall be spread, moisturized, graded and compacted togiven levels and grades. Layer thickness of 200mm shall beused. Moisture content shall be within 2% of OMC or as

specified. Suitable rollers shall be selected together with requirednumber of passes to achieve desired results with best efficiency.

6.1.9 Proceed with the next layer if previous layer passes the specifiedrequirements.

6.1.10 Embankment shall be complete to the levels and grades specifiedin the specifications.

6.1.11 Side slopes shall be dressed to attain the required grades.

6.1.12 Materials generated from excavations at other parts of the projectmay be utilized for embankment construction if it meets qualityand project specification requirements.

    6.2 Aggregate Base Course

6.2.1 All material shall conform to the requirements as specified in theproject specifications.

6.2.2 Aggregate for base course shall consist of clean, tough, durable, sharp angle fragments free of any excess of thin or elongatedpieces and reasonably free of soft, disintegrated or decomposedmatter.

6.2.3 The aggregate for base-course shall be combined into a uniformmixture by adding water as ascertained through tests.

6.2.4 The aggregate base-course shall be spread at site in uniformlayers not exceeding 15cm in compacted depth.

6.2.5 Rolling shall be continued until the layer is compacted to thedensity as mentioned in project specifications.

    6.3 Triple Surface Treatment (T.S.T)

6.3.1 The bitumen for T.S.T shall be free from water and shall conformto the requirements as per project specification.

6.3.2 Prior to the application, all loose material shall be removed fromthe surface of base course and shall be cleaned by means of

methods as specified in project specifications.6.3.3 Temperature of bituminous material at the time of application shall

    be 500C to 80oC.

6.3.4 Application of bituminous material shall be performed only whenthe surface is dry, atmospheric temperature is above 15oC andweather is not foggy or rainy.

6.3.5 The bituminous material shall be applied at the rate as specified inproject specification and shall be applied by approved distributors. The spray nozzles and spray bar shall be checked and adjusted30 cm higher than the surface in order to achieve uniformdistribution.

6.3.6 Immediately after applying the asphaltic material, dry aggregateshall be uniformly and evenly distributed over the treated surface.Immediately after spreading of the aggregate, the treated surfaceshall be rolled with a steel-wheeled roller weighing between 6 to
