    FIELDINSTRUMENTATIONINSTALLATION

    1. OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this method statement is to provide guidelines for inspection of

    the field instrumentation installation.

    2. SCOPE:

This method statement covers the activity of field instrumentation installation forquality inspections and tests.

    3. REFERENCES:

The following documents are considered as reference document:

    Project specifications.

    Applicable international codes & standards.

    Project Quality Plan.

    Quality Inspection Plan.

    Project drawings..

    4. ABBREVIATIONS/DEFINITIONS:

    5. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Area in charge E&I checks layout, project and typical installation drawingsfor the activity.

Area supervisor E&I accomplishes the activities in accordance withdrawings. All relevant tests will be performed and results will be filled onFRMs (refer to related documents).

The concerned quality inspector checks that the relevant work is beingcarried out in conformance with project specifications, PQPand QIP alongwith the best engineering practices. In case of non-conformance at anystage, it will be controlled by corrective action request. If an inspectionplan is given by customer, the sequence of inspections will be followedaccordingly.

    6. PROCEDURE:

Following checks shall be performed for the completion of activities, in accordancewith the relevant project specifications and reference documents.

Mounting of instruments shall be in accordance with location and detaildrawings along with hook up details.

Instrument or equipment to be installed shall be inspected to check thatits data meets with the specification. The instrument shall then beexamined for calibration and installed at its intended location on

brackets, a sub-panel, mounting post or pedestal ensuring that it isleveled and firmly secured.

The instruments which require re-calibration, as specified by customer, shall then be bench tested / calibrated prior to installation.

Instruments and associated equipment shall be supported inaccordance with methods shown on typical drawings. Instrument locationgenerally should not obstruct equipment access or walkways. A checkshall be implemented to ensure that access to hand valves andequipment is not impaired. Re-positioning of control valve hand wheelsor positioners may be carried out, with approval of the customer.

All instruments and instrument scales shall be installed in a verticalorientation (unless otherwise specified). It is ensured that all indicating

instruments shall be readable from floor level or permanent ladders orplatforms.

All isolation, vent and drain valves shall be operateable from permanentplatform or ladders. Where capillary systems are used, they shall becontinuously supported and protected and any excess length neatlycoiled. The installation shall not introduce any standing errors.

Protective enclosures shall be provided for instruments as specified andshall be installed in locations where maximum access is provided formaintenance purposes.

Care shall be taken that the forces developed by the expansion of pipingor vessels shall not damage instruments or impulse piping.

Control valves shall be located in accordance with piping detail drawingsand, in general, shall be accessible from floor level or permanentplatforms. Clearance shall be allowed above the control valve to allow forservicing of the actuator and below for servicing the valve internalswhere applicable. Suitable clearances shall also be allowed to giveaccess to manual hand wheels and valve positioners.

Care shall be taken in locating tapping points to keep the impulse lines

as short as possible. Allowance shall also be made for withdrawal asnecessary.

    7. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENTS:

    LN key set.

Spanners and wrenches - Right type and size shall be used. Extension onspanners and wrenches shall not be used unless the wrenches aredesigned for such use. A pipe wrench shall not be used as a hammer. Awrench (except slugging wrenches) shall not be hammered to tighten abolt.

Pliers shall not be used as wrenches. It will be ensured that scrap doesnot fly off and cause injury when cutting metal with pliers. Only long

handled pliers shall be used to cut wire under tension. Pliers with insulatedhandles shall be used for electrical work.

Hacksaws - Correct type of blade shall be selected to suit the material tobe cut. The blade should be set in a hacksaw frame so that the teeth arepointing in the forward direction and sufficient tension shall be applied toensure the blade is maintained rigid.

Power tools - All portable power tools shall be stored in clean dryconditions. Power tools shall not be left lying around the job site wherethey may be damaged. Rotating tools shall be switched off and held untilrotation has completely stopped before they are set down. Tools shall bedisconnected before changing bits, blades, cutters, or wheels. All portablepower tools shall be equipped with properly functioning "deadmanswitches".

Grinding Machine - Care shall always be taken to ensure that the grindingwheel is free from defect before mounting. The proper size and type ofwheel shall be fitted to the tool so that the maximum permissible peripheryspeed of the wheel does not exceed the maximum speed displayed on themachine. No grinding machine shall be used unless the maximum speedis clearly marked on the case. All wheels shall be fitted with adequateguards.

    8. HSE INSTRUCTIONS:

During work, the following procedures should be adopted to ensure safe working.

Procedure for crainage shall be followed for shifting of control valves etcthat has been submitted in our HSE manual.

Fire extinguishers should be available near the vicinity of hot work.

The following personal protection wears shall be used, they are:

    Safety helmets

    Safety goggles.

    Safety shoes.

    Cotton gloves.

The supervisors shall deliver toolbox talk daily to the workers.

All efforts will be made to keep the job site neat clean and tidy by removingthe scrap on daily basis.
