    Local Transportation

TaxiReliable registered taxi services located in Georgetown include the following:

    - Sheriff Taxi (226-2155, 226-3000)

    - Green Ice Taxi Service (226-0003)

    - City Taxi Service (225-6222)- Classic Cabs (227-4545)

    - De General (231-2900)

These registered taxi services have bases located relatively close to Queens College:

    - Patrick's Taxi (226-8524)

    - Unity Cabs (225-4112 / 227-1200)

With registered taxi services, such as those listed above, fares known locally as short drop fares are usually $400 and

apply mainly to travel in Georgetown within the boundaries of Water Street (west), the seawall (north), Sheriff Street

(east), and Mandela Avenue (south). Fares may increase once one of these boundary lines is crossed.

Fares for Road taxis, those that cruise the streets or congregate at busy spots waiting for on -the-spot passengers, are

usually higher than those of registered taxi services. It is better to stay with registered services; however, if you must use

a road taxi, negotiate the rate prior to entering. Do not use the services of any taxi driver whose license plate

number does not begin with the letter H (H, HA, HB, HC etc).

Car RentalThe names of the following car rental services were provided by the Guyana Tourism Authority:
