Current state of the new alignment system.. But about 50% of it has to be dismantled for the granite in mid Feb

started now....

Drawing Status

• David Mongomery (Marks’s Ex boss) has contacted Mark on his mobile.

• Apparently he sent a package to me with drawing etc. Unfortunatley nothing has arrived.

• David has printed off the list of models Mark was working on.

• MDG now trying to decide just what it all means.

• David to arrange a meeting with Ian and myself to see just who will be doing the work.

Laser support

Where we started fromusing standard optical components

Where we finished. With a custom support. Awaiting it’s cover

Laser module ND filter pinhole

Aluminium reference support for granite

Summery of Stave(let) to build in 2012

• Shield studies stavelet. (C channel, presumably single sided ?) Could use existing frame. If not fitted with locking points. Note:- we only have one C channel frame. We could have 2 if we fit modified pins

to the other (US) frame. But....

• Stavelet 4 (probably made by the US so not our problem hopefully! But see above)

• Electrical stave 250 (still to be confirmed, may be double sided) Might fit existing frame BUT may need support for EOS card. Perhaps this needs a

drawing?. Again no locking points.

• Electrical stavelet (130nm). Probably needs new frame.

Option 1Modify locking point

Option 2Make temporary extension

Option 3 Make wider core

Option 4Make more offset BCC

Option 5Make 2 part locking point

Option 6With a change of module........

FOR AGAINST

Option 1, modify locking point

Moves locking point away Needs yet another set of moulds etc for a temporary problem.

Option 2,Make temporary custom ext

Means that the 120mm stave are OK. No need to modify anything

Extra leaverage.Increases frame width

Option 3, wider core

Keeps stiffness Needs new jigs etc etc

Option 4, modify BCC

No chance

Option 5, 2 part clamp

neat Needs more design and R+D. Removal for re-work not nice! Post construction fitting not good.

Option 6 , new module

neat Long term...

Thoughts..• Separate out the locking point problem from the stave population.

• If we make an temporary extension piece then everything we have (with the exception of the new frame) works as before.

• As far as mounting tests go, one can make special narrow version of the core.

• We can make special wide frames if we want to use extension pieces to prove the point.

• We can say very little about the new modules BUT it is important that the module, stave , locking point , frame designers and module placement people all talk to each other. At the moment we are very disconnected!

• Only one constraint .. the granite and hence the distance apart of the two walls has a maximum value of approximately 385mm Meaning the frame can not be wider than 380mm approximately

But this needs to be checked on a drawing ......

What to test re... Iv’s

• Aim is to measure I/V. Objective is to prove adhesive has no effect...So..• Perform I/V on naked silicon, or a module depending on what I receive.• Stick onto dummy stavelet. ( I have such an item but with no cooling tubes)• Measure I/V after cure at room temp.• Cycle between +30 and -60 and then re-measure at room temp. (We can place the whole stavelet into our environmental chamber and we have a box

that we can flood with N2)• Measure I/V at +30 and at -60. (we can do this inside the chamber) • Cycle a number of times• Re-measure.

• Awaiting offer of silicon from Ashley

• If we do not do this, what are we going to use to stick modules onto our next stavelet? This is the SP shield studies stavelet that was/is expected in Jan 2012.
