The Requirement

Opened in 2009, the Blue Whale is a live jazz club and art gallery located in the heart of

Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles, California, USA. The Blue Whale has become

the ‘go to’ venue for the best musicians to showcase their latest projects.

With an intimate listening environment for both the musicians and the fans, it was time to

upgrade the venue from an analogue to a digital console.

Production manager and lead engineer, Masahiro Tsuzuki, searched for a digital

console with the capability to record the show live on multi-track or two-track, provide

live streaming for local or internet media, as well as have iPad controllability.QU-32 &BLUE WHALE JAZZ

The Solution

The solution was clear; with a 38 in / 28 out architecture, multi-track recording capability

to a DAW of Masahiro’s choice, along with 18 channels of recording to the Qu-Drive,

and remote control with the Qu-Pad app on an iPad, the Allen & Heath Qu-32 was the

weapon of choice.

Masahiro commented that not only does the Qu-32 sound incredible but the feature set

and functionality really stand out. With the accessibility of scene recalls, the mixer can

also store individual EQ, dynamic control, and FX parameters.
