Quadratic FunctionA function that can be written in standard form;
f(x) = ax2 + bx + cwhere a ≠ 0
Factoring
• GCF – Greatest Common Factor• Difference of 2 Squares• Factoring by Grouping• Factoring Trinomials
Greatest Common Factor or GCF
• The GCF is the greatest factor that divides evenly into each term of an expression
• May recognize GCF easily• If not;– Find prime factors of each term– Determine the GCF– Factor out GCF and combine remaining terms
GCF Examples
• 4x3 + 12x2 • 5a2b3 – 30a3b2
Factoring a Difference of Two Squares
a2 – b2 = (a + b)(a - b)A pattern that makes it easy to factor
First recognize perfect squares and substitute for a and b
Difference of Two Squares Examplesa2 – b2 = (a + b)(a – b)
#1. 25 – x2 #2. 3p2 – 27q2
