Facilities/Services & General InformationInformation Technology RoomSt. Conleth’s Community College is the designated centre of P.L.C.s in Co. Kildare. It has three newly refurbished computer laboratories, with the latest Microsoft Office software installed on all machines. Broadband internet access is available to all PLC students in our computer laboratories for training purposes and completion of project work. Excellent technical support ensures the reliability and availability of computers at all times.

Beauty Therapy RoomOne spacious fully equipped Beauty Therapy room at St. Conleth’s where students work in small groups to perfect their skills before entering the world of work.

Childcare RoomWe have one childcare room with all the necessary equipment to train our students to a very high standard.

Career Guidance & Counselling ServiceAvailable to all students in class groups or on a one-to-one by appointment only, making career choices applying for college through CAO system, CV and interview preparation.

Nursing RoomWe have one dedicated pre-nursing room with modern and up to date equipment.

Student FeedbackStudents can avail of one-to-one feedback from their tutors on at least four specified occassions throughout the academic year.

Work Experience / Industry LinksAll Post Leaving Certificate courses include a module on work experience. This gives students a chance to apply their knowledge and skills to a practical work situation. The work experience programme is conducted under close supervision from class tutors whereby support and encouragement is afforded to students. Over the last twelve years, St. Conleth’s has forged strong links with local businesses through our work experience programme. This provides the opportunity for our graduates to find employment in the local area on completion of our courses.

Small Class SizesThere is a maximum of 30 students in all PLC courses which allows tutors to deliver the programme tailored to individual needs. These uniquely small class sizes ensure students can be supported and assisted by their class tutors.

LocationSt. Conleth’s Community College is located on Station Rd., Newbridge, Co. Kildare. The school is ideally located within a short walking distance of the Arrow Railway Station which provides an excellent rail service to Dublin and Kildare. There is also easy access to the M7 Motorway.Newbridge is a vibrant and growing town, with excellent sporting, leisure, entertainment and restaurant facilities.

Financial Support / Grant AidSt. Conleth’s Community College, as part of Kildare VEC, can offer all PLC students the opportunity to apply for a maintenance grant, subject to eligibility for the duration of their course. Students may also be eligible to maintain social welfare payments while doing our PLC courses.

Beauty Therapy

Qualification: CIBTAC - The only CIBTAC accredited centre in Co. Kildare

AimThis course is designed to prepare students for the many different career opportunities available within the industry: salon work/ownership, spa therapy, working aboard cruise liners, sales representative, beauty consultant, trainer and lecturer.

This is a one year full-time course. Upon successful completion of the end of year examinations students will receive 3 CIBTAC Awards, Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Services, Level 3 Award in Facial Electrical Treatments and Level 3 Certificate in Body Therapy. CIBTAC is an internationally recognised examinations body and all examinations are conducted by professional external examiners. This is an intensive course comprised of both theoretical and practical modules. Regular class assessments will be conducted. A high level of student commitment and attendance is required throughout the year. CIBTAC is the Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology.

Entry requirements Leaving Certificate standard or its equivalent. A science subject (preferably Social and Scientific Home Economics or Biology) is an advantage but not essential. A suitability interview is also conducted.

Mature students and early school leavers are welcome to apply. Acceptance onto the course is based on aptitude displayed at the suitability interview.

Course Times9.00 am - 4 .00 pm, Monday - Friday.9.00 am - 1 .00 pm, Wednesday.

Course Content Level 2 in Beauty Therapy Services and Level 3 Award in Facial Electrical Treatments: Skin care, skin analysis, exfoliation techniques, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, electrical treatments, facial massage, mask application, make-up, manicure/pedicure and waxing. Relevant theory behind all these treatments.

Body Therapy: Anatomy and physiology, figure analysis, electrical treatments, body massage, heat treatments. Relevant theory behind all these treatments.

In addition students will also study the following areas: Skin structure and diseases, health and safety, promotion of products and services, client care, communication, salon procedures and electricity.

Students are required to complete case studies and portfolios prior to examinations.

FETAC: Level 4 IT and Level 5 Communications

EnrolmentEarly enrolment is advised as demand for places is high. Enrolments are accepted from1st February each year.

FeesFees are payable for the following items: Examination and registration fees, books, beauty kit and products. Fees vary according to exchange rates (approximately a1400). These products are purchased by the college. Students are required to purchase uniforms separately. Information will be provided on registration. This includes the €200 D.E.S. Fee. All fees are payable prior to commencement of the course and are non-refundable. Social Welfare grant is available to eligible students.

AimThis is a one year course at Post Leaving Certificate level. It provides an introduction to the important areas of business theory and training in the relevant computer practices used in the modern office/business environment. Students may progress for further studies in this area.

AimThis is a full-time, one year course. The course is designed to develop the communications, intellectual, practical and caring skills essential for people working with children (0-6 years).

The course offers an excellent foundation for people new to the study of Child Care and for those with limited practical experience.

ProgressionStudents who successfully complete this course may gain entry to the Garda Siochana, Prision Service, Defence Forces, Third Level Institutes and Colleges through the FETAC Higher Education Links Scheme. Students who complete this award are eligible to apply for membership of the Security Institute of Ireland (SII).

Course Content/Career OpportunitiesThis is a one year full time course designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the sports/leisure/recreation/nutrition industry. This course combines both practical and theoretical elements. Students who qualify in this area can pursue the following careers: Gym /Fitness Instructor, Sports Retail Management, Personal Trainer, Sports Development Officer, Recreation and Leisure Management. Students can also achieve F.A.I. and Volleyball Association of Ireland accreditation certification. Graduates can apply to Institutes of technology for follow on courses.

Entry requirements A pass at Leaving Certificate / Leaving Certificate Applied (merit) or equivalent life experience is required.

Course Duration This is a full time one year course (September-May, Monday-Friday with usual school holidays).

What is Wider Options?This is a one year mature adult education programme, ideally suited to: people who have been in the home for a number of years or have retired, those working in minimum-wage jobs who wish to progress their career, mature people who left school early without a formal qualification, people with school going children who wish to do something for themselves.

The Course provides an introduction to the main areas of business theory and training in the relevant computer practices used in the modern office/business environment.

Entry Requirements?There are no formal educational requirements for this course. Applicants must have a basic level of literacy (be able to read and write). Places are allocated on a first-come, first served basis and following a meeting with the course co-ordinator. References will be sought. Apply using application form at back of brochure.

Certification Successful completion of the course will lead to a FETAC Level 5 Business Studies Certificate, a 5M2102 FETAC Record of Achievement or a College Certificate.
