1 Quality Center logon Citrix needs to be started when logging on to Quality Center.

So, activate the respective symbol by using the right mouse key. Probably, it is necessary to have an „Application Refresh“. The program „Mercury Quality Center“ can be found in the sub-folder „Mercury“ among the folder „Applications“.

Windows desktop is appearing. Then, start the Internet Explorer and enter the following address: http://isw501/qcbin/start_a.htm

After Quality Center logon, the recently displayed screen should appear. Only on initial logon, a welcome screen is shown that can be deactivated by setting the checkmark in the box „Don’t show this again“. Closing Citrix, you log out from Quality Center. So all active applications will be closed and logged off properly, too.

2 Initial steps

On the left side you see six modules of Quality Center. On the right, the modules’ surface is shown. Generally, a tree structure with the respective contents is going to be displayed and on the right, there is an input mask for showing particular contents. All Quality Center contents like texts, field descriptions and information are written in English. Depending on the action to be realized, differently filled menus as well as symbols are available (gray = disabled). As well, with the right mouse key you can only work with those items which are available at that time. When moving the mouse to one of the screen frames, e. g. between tree view and editing mask, the size of the frame can be modified (red flash). In the editing mask, it is possible to switch to different masks via tabs.

All contents can be shown by changing the view to „Component Grid“. The focus may be put on certain contents or the contents’ sequence may be changed by filtering as well as sorting. In some cases (e. g. concerning „Business Components“), groups may be created according to certain rules, too.

In order to avoid display errors which occur on irregular database updating, the view needs to be updated by the refresh button.

As the filters may not be deleted automatically (e. g. on program start or module change), they might restrict the view unintentionally. This can be avoided by deleting the filter (Clear Filter/Sort).

3 Module details

3.1 Business Components

Business Components are reusable units that define specific tasks within a process. They are the smallest unit in a test and contain the test procedure description.

The Business Components’ structure can be compared to SAP menu tree structure.

As far as the structure is concerned, for not going into deep in certain areas, “deeper” Business Components are pooled in higher levels.

The Business Components’ description has the following structure:

0030_VA01_Sales_Order_Tab_Configuration (4-digit, intervals of 10/TCODE/screen name/tab name/table name, separated by underlines)

As far as transactions with special characters are concerned, the character has to be written as a word for better differentiation:

For instance: T-02 => Tdash02

T.02 => Tdot02

T/02 => Tslash02

It is only allowed to use underlines as special characters.

As for details, the following is to be found (the most important fields):

• Component name (name of Business Component)

• Created by

• Creation date

• Status (processing status)

Referring to „Description“, a brief description („Summary“) is to be found as well as preconditions which need to be fulfilled before testing („Pre-Conditions“) and conditions that need to be fulfilled after testing („Post-Conditions“). The Business Component history will be entered among „Discussion Area“.

The tester may be provided with values by variables to be found among the tab „Parameters“ which are required for testing or the system provides the tester with variables which need to be entered manually („Input“). By means of „Output Parameters“, the Quality Center forwards values automatically to subsequent test steps so that another tester is in the position to get them displayed.

The names of the „Parameters“ correspond to the field names presented in SAP layout.

The proper test steps to be realized are described („Description“) in „Design Steps“. When integrating the „Parameters“ as variable (<<<Parameter>>>), the tester is getting the values to be used in the text during execution. The tester gets informed about the expected result by the field „Expected Result“.

3.2 Test Plan

So-called Test Scripts, describing a process, are arranged by particular Business Components in the Test Plan.

3.3 Test Lab

In Test Lab, Test Scripts are combined to Test Sets. It is possible to assign each particular Test Script to the initial testers.

For a better overview columns can be selected as shown in screenshot.

By using button „Select Columns“ columns can be selected. Main columns for testing are:

- Tester - Plan: teste Name - Iterations - Status - Exec Date

Select the function “Run Manually” by using the button “Run” for Test Script execution. Thus all already tested information is deleted and the test is reset.

So on the subsequent screen „Manual Runner“, a brief description of the entire test process is to be shown at first and then the test can be started by activating „Begin Run“. Parallel, the program to be tested should be open (e. g. SAP ERP 6.0).

Now, it is possible to carry out the test and the corresponding processes can be executed.

If the test was successful, you get the following confirmation „Pass Selected“.

The test was incorrect when getting „Fail Selected“.

Without confirmation, you may go back or go ahead in the steps with the yellow arrows .In case an error occurred, the appropriate error description is to be found in the field „Actual“. Then, an error

message will be generated by „Add Defect“ .

On creation of „Defects“, the Quality Center is entering automatically all necessary information among „Description“. The error description of the field „Actual“ is shown here, too.

A brief error description will be entered in „Summary“ and the „Priority“ is to be defined.

The „Cycle“ will be selected by a drop down list via the field “Detect in Cycle”. The responsible person in charge of the systems is to be found automatically according to the release module’s assignment ((„Assigned to“).

In the field „Reproducible“ it needs to be defined with „Y“ or „N“ whether an error may be repeated.

Activating „Submit“, a workflow will be started in the background sending an e-mail to the responsible person in charge of systems.

Now, the test can be finished by „End Run“.

If the problem has been solved, the person who has created the „Defect“ will get an e-mail. So, the tester may test the incorrect test case again.

Activate „Continue Manual Run“ in order to carry on with the test where it has been stopped originally.

You may have a look at the history of all starts (All Runs) when double-clicking a test in Test Script. The test will be reset and a new Test Instance will be created provided a test has been activated via „Run Manually“. Each tester is saved with the appropriate ID (independent of „Responsible Tester“). So with this list different tests can be compared with each other or it is possible to carry on testing of particular instances as well as to restart them.

The tab „Live Analysis“ is for analyzing particular Test Sets or entire directories. When activating „Add Graph“, „Graph Wizard“ will be started and so a quick graphic analysis can be obtained.

The assignment of the testers to the Test Sets can be displayed by selecting „Group by: Test Set“ and „X-Axis: Tester“.

3.4 Defects

The module Defects is collecting and displaying all entered error messages (Defects). In the lower part, the description as well as the processing history (Comments) referring to the marked Defect are shown. The status of a Defect has the following meaning:

New Recreated by the tester but not yet assigned Open Set by the person in charge when having read the Defect Fixed The person in charge solved the problem and returns the Defect to the tester for re-

testing Closed The tester verified the solution and closed the Defect Reopen The tester reproduced the error and returned the Defect to the responsible

person in charge of

The connections of the defect and the place the defect has been created in the test will be displayed by the function „Linked Entities“. The place in the test will be displayed by clicking on the entry in the column „Linked Entity Name“.

For this, the windows „Test Instance Properties“ and „Run Steps“ are opened. Test Lab will be started in the background showing the Test Set, the test is to be found. When closing the opened windows (Close), the marked test might be started for re-testing for example.

It is possible to adjust the view of the table according to your needs. Adding to favorites is possible, too.

Columns might be added, removed and sorted by using the symbol to be found in symbol bar.

Then, this setting can be added as private or public favorite via the menu option „Favorites - Add to Favorites…“.
