THE GOOD NEWSREFLECTION FROM OUR YOUTH MINISTER

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. Where to begin? The Trinity is one of the central teachings of our faith. Many thinkers up and down the centuries have tried to explain this holy mystery in order to help Christians realize more deeply the significance of what we profess in our creed at Mass.

To make this connection, we need the very gift of the mystery we are trying to comprehend, namely the third Person of the Trinity – the Holy Spirit – which we celebrated on Pentecost. By celebrating today’s solemnity, the Church gives the faithful time to reflect on that awesome gift we received.

I have to say when we sit down to plan the RCIA calendar this is not usually the topic most of us fight over! No amount of math equations 1+1+1 = 1 or 3x1= 1 fully compute. St. Patrick of course used the native clover leaf in Ireland to describe the Trinity. Then there is the one about the three states of water (solid, liquid, and gas) used to describe the same substance (which also falls short and is probably heretical).

No matter how we try explaining the Trinity in laymen terms, only in Heaven will we fully comprehend what it means to share in the very life of the triune God. St. Maximilian Kolbe said, “God exists from all ages, without beginning, forever, and without end.”

We put our faith in His Providence forever and always. Amen.

Come, Holy Spirit!Steven Dyer

THE HOLY TRINITYPatrick of Ireland: “I bind to myself today the strong power of an invocation of the Trinity – the faith of the Trinity in unity, the Creator of the universe” (The Breastplate of St. Patrick 1 [A.D. 447]).

“[T]here is no other God, nor has there been heretofore, nor will there be hereafter, except God the Father unbegotten, without beginning, from whom is all beginning, upholding all things, as we say, and his Son Jesus Christ, whom we likewise to confess to have always been with the Father –before the world’s beginning... Jesus Christ is the Lord and God in whom we believe... and who has poured out on us abundantly the Holy Spirit... whom we confess and adore as one God in the Trinity of the sacred Name” (Confession of St. Patrick 4 [A.D. 452]).Excerpt taken from Catholic Answers at www.catholic.com/tract/the-trinity.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY TRINITYGlory be to the Father,

Who by His almighty power and love created me, making me in the image and likeness of God.

Glory be to the Son,Who by His Precious Blood delivered me from hell, and

opened for me the gates of heaven.Glory be to the Holy Spirit,

Who has sanctified me in the sacrament of Baptism, and continues to sanctify me

by the graces I receive daily from His bounty.Glory be to the Three adorable Persons of the Holy Trinity,

now and forever.Amen.

PRO-LIFE NEWS

HOW TO BUILDA CULTURE OF LIFE PART 4

Identity Crisis: As a society and as individuals, we often measure ourselves by false standards: by what and how much we do, our successes or failures, how others treat us, the degree of our

pleasure or independence, etc. And when these changeable substitutes prove to be insufficient, or when we are faced with challenges and suffering, we may feel helpless, alone, or abandoned; we may be tempted to feel as though our lives have decreased value or worth. But God’s love – individual, real, unchanging – is the true source of our worth, identity, and dignity. It really is not a question of who we are, but rather whose we are. Because his love will never change, nothing can reduce our God-given dignity, and nothing can diminish the immeasurable worth of our lives.
