QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT COMMERCIAL WASTE LEVY

TheQueenslandGovernmentCommercialWasteLevywillbeintroducedfrom1December2011toallbusinessinQueensland.Thelevywillbechargedinadditiontocurrentwastecollectionanddisposalfeespaidtowastecontractors.

Theimpactofthewastelevywillbesitespecific.Contactyourwastecontractortoexplaintheimpactthenewlevywillhaveonyourbusiness.Tobeonthefrontfoot,businessesshouldlookatwaystoincreaserecyclingandreducegeneralwastetolessentheimpactofthelevy.

Recycling (Yellow-lid) Wheelie BinThecontentsaremanuallysortedandbaledattheCouncil'sMaterialsRecoveryFacility(MRF).TheseitemsarethentransportedtocontractorsoutsidetheCairnsRegionforprocessingintonewmaterials.Excessrecyclingmaterialcanbedisposedfreeofchargeatanytransferstation.

Waste (Green-lid) Wheelie BinThecontentsareprocessedatSITA'sAdvancedResourceRecoveryFacility(ARRF)toproduceacompostmaterialsuitableforuseinagriculture.

Residual WasteAnyitemsunabletobeprocessedattheARRFortheMRFaretransportedbycontractorstoalandfilllocatedoutsidetheCairnsRegion.
