Department of Education INFORMATION 2019 Queensland Student Study Tour to Jiangsu, China 21 September 6 October 2019 Through Advancing education - An action plan for education, the Queensland Government is preparing students for the challenges of tomorrow and providing opportunities to become successful global citizens. The Department of Education International (DEi) in collaboration with Jiangsu Education Services for International Exchange (JESIE) is offering eligible high-performing students an opportunity to be immersed in the Chinese language and culture. Queensland state high schools may nominate up to three year 10 students studying Chinese (Mandarin) language. Students will be selected from across Queensland to undertake a fully-funded program in Jiangsu and experience a unique program that includes language learning through immersion in formal classes, cultural activities and visits to sites of historical and cultural significance. Schools may also nominate one teacher to chaperone selected students to Jiangsu. SELECTION CRITERIA Student Chaperone Principal’s and teacher’s endorsement Academic performance What the student hopes to gain fromthe experience Commitment to the study of the Chinese language and culture Chinese (Mandarin) language proficiency Principal’s endorsement Suitability to chaperone Demonstrated ability in leading school study tours APPLICATION AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Student The Application Form [Part A] and the Project Consent Form [Part B] must be completed in full by the applicant and submitted to International Services by the closing date. Student must not have travelled overseas in the previous two years (travel for immigration excluded). The application form must be completed in full by the applicant and submitted by the closing date. At the completion of the trip, participants must produce a post tour report on their experience and share the learnings and experiences of the tour w ith their school community. Applicant must meet all requirements of the terms and c onditions outlined within the Application Form [Part A] and be willing to abide by the Conditions of Entry and Tour Rules [Part D], to be eligible to apply. Chaperone Applicants must be proficient in Chinese (Mandarin) and English. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to effectively chaperone a school study tour. Applicants must meet all requirements of the terms and c onditions outlined within the application form [Part A], complete the Project Consent Form [Part B], be willing to undertake the Role of the Chaperone [Part C] and agree to the Chaperone’s Conditions of Entry and Tour Rules [Part D] to be eligible to apply. Parent / Guardian One or both parent/s or guardian/s must consent to their child’s participation in the tour Parent/s or guardian/s must acknow ledge the Terms and Conditions outlined within the Application Form [Part A] and sign the Parent/Guardian Agreement [Part C] Principal Principals must endorse participants as suitable to participate in the camp as representatives of Queensland [Part A Section 4]. * Participants will be chosen based on the quality of their application however, consideration may also be given to departmental strategic priorities (e.g. choosing one participant from each of the department’s service delivery regions). Through Advancing education - An action plan for education, the Queensland Government is preparing students for the challenges of tomorrow and providing opportunities to become successful global citizens.
