LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE

PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

My skills in Photoshop have noticeably improved since undertaking the preliminary task. I am able to edit the

photos to a much more professional standard. I have been more confident in using Photoshop as I have been able to crop images and use the lasso tool to get rid of unwanted

backgrounds. I have also learnt how to save colour swatches since the preliminary task this helps me to get the

exact same colours and maintains continuity.

Not only this I have been made more away of the conventions of a magazine as the final music magazine

includes a date and barcode unlike the preliminary student magazine.

I have gained skills when using a still camera as I am now much more aware of the rules and conventions. Not only

this but I have furthered my information on the shot types that can be taken and what they represent or how they can be interpreted. For example if the subject makes direct eye

contact at the same level as the camera then this immediately draws the reader in, whereas if you use a low

angle so the subject appears taller the connotation is of them being domineering and powerful. I did possess some

of this knowledge prior to the preliminary construction however much more since.

I have gained industry skills since the production of my preliminary task.

I understand that research is vital if you want your product to appeal to the target audience you are addressing, as it enables you to discover what they

are looking for and what already exists in the market, so therefore ultimately what your competition will be like.

In addition, everything must appeal to your chosen target audience, the photos must be relatable or include people they look up to or want to be like. The copy must also address them and be relevant or interesting for

example an interview with their favourite band, this gets them purchasing the magazine.

Finally I have also learnt that consistency is key throughout a magazine, you must be able to tell that each page belongs to the same magazine through

it’s style and overall look. This way it creates familiarity with the customers.
