    Who would be the audience

    for your media products?

Our primary target audience for this film would be those ranging from 15-30

years old, as this is who we believe would be most attracted to our thriller

film. Due to the action and chance of threat portrayed in our media product it

would be best for slightly older audiences to watch, however by using a

younger cast it limits the age range, as typically older people may not wan’t to

watch a film starring teenagers. Although our actual opening title sequence is

not that violent, offensive or use strong language the media product is stilladdressed to an audience from 15-30, as the film as a whole would contain

scene of violence and threat. By using match on action during the stalking

sequence, the level of threat towards Licia is apparent, this just further

highlights how our media product would be targeted towards an audience of

    young adults.

Another way it is clear of our target audience is through the BBFC’s (British

Board of Film Classification) which is what our film would have to abide by.

The film ratings from the BBFC highlight how our film would be rated a 15,

meaning this is where our target audience will begin. The BBFC specification

for 15 rated films allows for strong violence, sexual activity, drug taking and

discriminatory language. Our film as a whole contains strong violence through

the brutal murder of Cameron and also hints at sexual activity and violencethrough Josh’s creepy actions towards Lucia (following her and taking

pictures for example). When looking at how to rate a film the BBFC look upon

    three aspects:

Context- With our thriller being that of murderous passion sub genre our

opening title sequence had to adhere to this. Through the use of multiple

couple starkly contrasting to an isolated Josh the idea of passion was

conveyed. Then by allowing Josh to follow Lucia this ominous nature of theprotagonist is further portrayed. Younger audience may feel intimidated or

influenced by this type of possessive and creepy behavior, meaning older and

less impressionable audiences of 15 upwards would be best.

Theme- During our opening sequence there is many themes portrayed whihc

would only be suitable for rated 15, these include dangerous behaviour,

physical threat and sexual threat, making the film unsuitable for younger

    audiences

Tone and Impact-The uneasy tone conveyed throughout the opening

sequence could be intimidating to younger audiences, as the intensefollowing scene builds tension and terror for the audience, meaning it would

be more suitable to an older rating of 15.

The Guest is a thriller film which also contains similar themes of strong

violence and strong language. This film is rated a 15 by the BBFC which

highlights how our film would also be linked to this rating, as similar film

genres are also rated this way.

There is many ways in which our film targets our desired audience through

the casting as the younger characters allow the audience to align themselves

with them. Also the long shots heightening Josh’s isolation intrigues the

audience interest as to why the protagonist is not portrayed as a sterotypical

teenager. Finally the broad range of actors used would further attract the

audience as they ranged from ages of our target audiences, again aligning

    them further.
