Executive Summary

We have done a research about the educational/course that our college should offer to

the society. Before we start our research, we had chosen some courses that should be

considered by the college. The courses are Nursing, Graphic Design, Petroleum Engineering,

Law and others.

When doing the research, we randomly distributed 90 copies to 90 respondents from

different town, which are Bintulu, Sibu and Sarikei. There are about 47 of male respondents

and the rest are female respondents. Male respondents are the majority in the distribution of

respondents by gender.

Not only that, the respondents also being asked about their highest qualification whether

they are in SPM or STPM qualification.

The respondents also being asked on the reasons why they choose the course with the

given answer in questionnaire such as interesting, high in demand, high in salary, and

challenging .

Based on the data that we have collected, Petroleum Engineering course should be

offered by our college. It is because mostly of our respondents is very interested in this

course. In fact, this course will give a lot of benefits to our college as in the Sibu, there is no

Introduction

Education is very important to every person in this world. Education in the largest sense

is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character, or physical ability

of an individual. In its technical sense, education is the process by which society deliberately

transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills, and values from one generation to another.

Kolej Laila Taib have five courses for this moment. These five courses are Business

Management, Architecture, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Quantity Survey and Civil

Engineering. The college is planning to expand on their educational programs/courses.

Therefore, we were hired by the college to perform a market research on the society’s demand

of educational programs.

Before we start our research, we have selected several courses that we think our college

should offer to the society. The courses that we chose are Nursing, Graphic Design, Petroleum

Engineering, Law and others.

At end of the research, we have collected that Petroleum Engineering course is the

course that our college should be offered to the society.

Data collection

Data collection is very important when doing a research. There are three methods to

collect data, namely observation and experiment, interviews and survey and questionnaire.

Survey and questionnaire is the method that we used to collect our data. There are many

advantages using this method. We can obtain our data without wasting a large amount of

money because it is cheap. Besides, by using questionnaire, there is no interviewer bias and

yet we can have larger number of respondents and improve our precision when doing this

market research.

We made the questionnaire in simple language and short question so that the respondents

can answer our questions easily. Moreover, there is no intimate or personal data needed when

the respondents answer the questionnaire .

There are altogether six questions in our questionnaire. These questions consist of the

respondent’s hometown, gender, stream, course that prefer the most and the reason why they

choose that particular course.

Page 7: QUESTIONAIRE (2)

Respondents

When doing this research, we have distributed the 90 copies of questionnaire to 90

respondents. Those 90 respondents are from three different towns, which are Bintulu, Sibu

and Sarikei. There are about 30 respondents from each town.

There are 47 males and 43 females altogether answering the questionnaire.54 of them

are in SPM category and the other 36 are from STPM category.

Those respondents came from different stream, which are Science Stream, Art stream

and Vocational stream.

The respondents gave a great cooperation when answering the questionnaire.

recommend this course as it is the most chosen by the respondents instead of the others.

Besides that, we chose this course because we believe that this course would bring a lot of

advantages in many ways. One of the advantages is this course would have a brighter future

and it can contribute to our own country as well.

Petroleum Engineering course will definitely help the students to exposed themselves

more in engineering field. Petroleum engineering course helps the students to improve skills

in math, science, and computer. It also helps in both speaking and writing. The students will

be challenged to design the technologies that make the industry work.
