Festive times at DCA!
The months of November and December flew by
as the Dayspring and Liberty Christian High
School communities celebrated with a packed
schedule of family chapels and concerts. For
chapels, each teacher worked with his/her class
to prepare a special song or skit to mark the
occasion. Some acts were new, while others
were old favorites. DCA eighth graders emceed
the Thanksgiving and Christmas chapels, while
LCHS students organized and ran the Veterans’
Chapel. Here is an article describing the process:
Veterans’ Chapel overview by Gabrielle Milley, LCHS Class of 2018
This year, Liberty Christian High School
had the honor of hosting Veterans’ Chapel.
In the beginning we weren’t sure how we
were going to do this, but we knew we
wanted it to be the best it could be. We felt
these veterans deserved to be honored to
the best of our ability. We wanted to make
sure every veteran in any of the Dayspring
families had the opportunity to honored. The
response was amazing! -continued on page 2

‘Tis the season to be giving!
DCA’s library transformed
into the Polar Express
Gift Shop in early
December, allowing
students to choose gifts
for their loved ones from a
wide variety of items.
Volunteers guided young-
er students in their
selections, then carefully
wrapped each gift. In a
season when a lot of
emphasis is placed on
“What am I going to get?,”
DCA students got the
opportunity to think of
which gifts would bless the
important people in their
lives.

Veterans’ Chapel story continued from page 1
At first, we were only getting
one or two emails a day, but
that soon turned into five or
six. Our slideshow held over
60 veterans represented by
our LCHS and DCA families
and staff. This very emotional
and heart-warming chapel was
a success. Tim Walsh, our
amazing speaker, focused on
keeping his faith while serving,
and how it can be challenging
but helps keep his heart where
it needs to be. By the end of
the service we gave out flag
pins to all the people who
served or are currently serv-
ing. We ended this service
with a luncheon for all the
veterans who attended as a
time to thank them for their
service. It was an honor for
LCHS to have the opportunity
to take on this responsibility.

Mother Son Night 2017 This year’s theme was American Ninja
Warrior. Volunteers blew up countless
balloons to decorate and built challenging
wooden obstacle courses and games for our
mother/son contestants. A delicious Chinese
dinner buffet accompanied an inspiring
speech by Bruce Stanford.

Eighth graders
donate custom
picture frames to
foster children In art class, each student
selected a questionnaire
previously filled out by a local
foster child. They then
decorated a wooden frame to
include the child’s favorite
colors, foods, hobbies, ani-
mals, dream job, and more.
The frames were a special
addition to the photo portraits
of the children taken by local
photographers as part of
Adoption RI’s annual
Heart Gallery exhibition. On
November 16, the class
traveled to the RI State House
for the opening of the show.
There they had the opportunity
to meet the children and pre-
sent them with their frames.

Overview of the Defenders’ first season by Caitlyn Stanford, LCHS Senior
This year, the Defenders
had their first EVER girls’
volleyball team!
Our team contained
seven Liberty Christian
High School students,
and three DCA students.
During our first game we
had fear of losing, but we
won by the skin of our
teeth! Our opponent was
a team that had been
playing for three years
together, and it was our
first time EVER playing
the sport! We lost the
first match out of three,
which meant we HAD to
win the last two! The
pressure was on, but with
the chants from the crowd
and the support of our
coaches, families and
friends... WE WON!! We
now had hope of winning
our next games, and we
did! Sadly, we lost our
last three games which
left us with a 3-3 record!
We are so grateful for the
opportunity to play this
exciting sport and for
coaches who never lost
hope in us!

Fifth graders enjoyed an interactive science demonstration with DCA parent Dr. Brenton DeBoef,
a chemistry professor at URI. They studied the differences between physical changes (such as
dry ice turning to gas) and chemical reactions (such as sugar and potassium nitrate mixing to
propel a small rocket).
Keeping students engaged in the classroom when
vacation is just hours away and many, many sweet
treats have been consumed at class parties is the
eternal challenge for every teacher. Below are
some solutions for helping students pass the time.
