z Serial Port Connection(Terminal)
The above Workstations come with COM Port (DB9) or USB-to-RS232converter.
TheaboveWorkstationshavebeeninstalledwithterminal emulator,suchasHyperTerminalincludedinWindowsXP/2003.
Serial cable -- one end is attached to theRS232 serial port,while the otherendtotheconsoleportoftheManagedSwitch.
z Ethernet Port Connection
Networkcables--Usestandardnetwork(UTP)cableswithRJ45connectors.
The above PC is installed with Web browser and JAVA runtime environmentplug-in.
Note
It isrecommendedtouseInternetExplorer8.0orabovetoaccessthe Managed Switch. If theWeb interface of the Managed Switchis not accessible, please turn off the anti-virus software or firewallandthentryitagain.

3. Terminal SetupTo configure the system, connect a serial cable to a COM port on a PC or notebook computer and to RJ45 type of serial port of the Managed Switch.

A terminal program is required tomake the software connection to the ManagedSwitch.
1. 1. Run terminal program on the OS.
2.When the following screen appears, make sure that the COM port should beconfiguredas:
Baud:115200
Databits:8
Parity:None
Stopbits:1
Flowcontrol:None

3.1 Logging on to ConsoleOnce the terminal is connected to the device, power on theManaged Switch andtheterminalwilldisplay“runningtestingprocedures”.
Then, the followingmessage asks to log in user nameandpassword. The factorydefault user name and password are shown as follows and the login screen inFigure3-3appears.

TheusercannowentercommandstomanagetheManagedSwitch.Foradetaileddescriptionofthecommands,pleaserefertothefollowingchapters.

1.Forsecurity reason,pleasechangeandmemorize thenewpass-wordafterthisfirstsetup.
2.Only accept command in lowercase letter under console inter-face.
3.2 ConfiguringIPAddressTheManagedSwitchisshippedwithdefaultIPaddressshownbelow.

4.Repeatstep1tocheckiftheIPaddresshaschanged.

3.3 StoringCurrentSwitchConfigurationAtthe“#”prompt,enterthefollowingcommandandpress<Enter>.

If the IP is successfully configured, the Managed Switch will apply the new IPaddress setting immediately. You can access the Web interface of the ManagedSwitchthroughthenewIPaddress.

If you are not familiar with the console command or the relatedparameter,enter“help”anytimeinconsoletogetthehelpdescrip-tion.

4. Starting Web ManagementThe following shows how to start up the Web Management of the ManagedSwitch. Note the Managed Switch is configured through an Ethernet connection.Please make sure the manager PC must be set to the same IP subnet address.
For example, the default IP address of the Managed Switch is 192.168.0.100,then the manager PC should be set to 192.168.0.x (where x is a numberbetween1and254,except100),andthedefaultsubnetmaskis255.255.255.0.

4.1 Logging in to the Managed Switch1.Use Internet Explorer 8.0 or above Web browser and enter IP address
http://192.168.0.100(thefactorydefaultIPaddressortheonethatyouhavejustchangedinconsole)toaccesstheWebinterface.
2.When the followingdialogboxappears,pleaseenter thedefaultusernameandpassword“admin” (or the password youhave changed via console). The loginscreeninFigure4-2appears.

The Switch Menu on the top and left of the Web page lets you access all thecommandsandstatisticstheManagedSwitchprovides.

Note
Ifyouarenot familiarwithSwitch functionsor the relatedparam-eter,press“Help icon” anytime on the Web page to get the help description.
Now, you can use the Web management interface to continue the Switchmanagement or manage the Switch by console interface.
Please refer to the user’s manual for more.

4.2.SavingConfigurationviaWebTo save all applied changes and set the current configuration as a startupconfiguration, the startup-configuration file will be loaded automatically across asystem reboot.
1. Click the Save icon on the top Switch Menu bar.

2. Press the “Save Configuration” button.
3. Or the other way to save the setting is to click Maintenance and thenSave Startup Config.

5.RecoveringBacktoDefaultConfiguration IPaddresshasbeenchangedoradminpasswordhasbeenforgotten–To reset the IP address to the default IP addres “192.168.0.100” or reset the login password to default value, press the hardware-based reset button on the rear panel for about 10 seconds. After the device is rebooted, you can log in tothemanagementWebinterfacewithinthesamesubnetof192.168.0.xx.
